Knicks · First topic! Facu Campazzo, why the NBA is sleeping on him? (page 1)

Hi! I'm Pedro, a Knicks fan from Chile. I've been following our beloved and hated team since 1998 and stepped by Ultimateknicks forum regularly for at least 12-15 years. So far I have been just a passive reader, but I might just try to participate more actively from now on.
I wanted to propose an option to fill our most urgent need of a floor general at PG. I might be biased by my Latinamerican roots, but Facundo Campazzo is a no brainer for me. He is a proven winner at multiple levels (Euroliga, Spanish League, International Basketball) and the Knicks should give him a shot. He is in the middle of his prime as a player at age 29, and in the worst case scenario he could be the perfect fit as a mentor for the player that we pick in the Draft. There are some rumours about the buyout clause that Real Madrid is demanding (reportedly a bit more than 2 million) , and I read that NBA teams are not allowed to pay more than 1 million for international buyouts (not sure though). If our team can pay Elfrid Payton 6 million a year I don't understand why we do not give a chance to the guy that currently plays the role that Luka Doncic did for Real Madrir. I am not saying that he is the next Doncic, but he could be at least a useful player in our current situation.

Hey Pedro, welcome to the forum.
I live in England. I’m familiar with Campazzo from watching Euro league Madrid games. Definitely a pass first PG, very capable of running the offence. Perimeter threat. As a player comparison I think he's similar to Sergio Rodriguez who had a brief stint with the Knicks in 2010.
Only concerns would be size and athleticism. But if we can pay Payton, who knows?

Welcome Pedro! :-) I like Campazzo a lot as a Basketball Player! Just look at that behind the back pass on sec 25 in the Video... He is a Player and a fierce oompetitor! I think pretty much the ONLY reason he is not in the NBA already is that despite him being active in the passing lanes he is physically just "not on that Level" and front offices see him as a defensive liability. No in the right set-up and with the right Coach I think he can be amazing also on the NBA Level to be honest. He would definately find our Young guns running so that would be fun... putting him next to Frank and having a rim protector in Mitch Rob behind him might be helpful... but in our "current" stagnant offense where you see almost no off the ball cuts he would be struggling to "create" I think... Right Coach... new offense... Im all for him!

Campazzo was finally signed by the Nuggets. I just read this article in an argentinian webiste, where Facu mentions that Knicks reached him, but they weren't as aggresive as denver. I'll bet he will be a surprise in his rookie season, while we struggle to find a decent option on our roster.
