Ask his ex-wife and ex-teams (eg Nets) why he can't be trusted or loyal... I would only support bringing Kidd aboard if it were to blow up the whole team and try to oust Dolan. Not saying we should, but that is the only situation where hiring him would make sense to me
What? Loyal like who? Look Thibs runs players in the ground, his offense sucks, his defense sucks, he’s been the favorite from jump due to Nepotism?
Kidd went and took a bunch of second round picks and a skinny kid from Greece and made a ROY, All Stars, and is the lead assistant coach on the number #1 seed team in the whole damn league. Two teams with his fingerprints all over them are likely going to meet in the finals.
I don’t care if he had beat his ex-wife, and neither did anyone else associated when the Knicks when he played here a few years ago, because that had happened decades ago and he was ostracized over when it happened in the past. He is a scumbag but most athletes are. It’s wrong, but no one cared for a decade after it happened.
I also appreciate the fact he did the Nets dirty, I want more people to do them dirty. As a organization they are a bunch of scumbags that go out there way to do the knicks dirty.
Thibs out here trying to pull Larry Brown/Phil Jackson 3.0 and get 5 years guaranteed..... smh. Give me Kidd
WarGames - all players and coaches look out for themselves first - nothing wrong with that as it's to be expected. Kidd and M.Jackson were terrific players but trouble follows them due to their behaviors and that's why they have the reputations they have. Lakers didn't want to touch Kidd as an assistant, but changed minds due to LBJ. It's okay to secretly want your head coaches job - it's different when you get caught trying to overthrow the head coach as an assistant. I'm all for the Mike Millers and type that seem to focus on themselves, their job performance and are accountable for their efforts. Kidd seems like a sophisticated car salesman - great interviews, yet look at the end results. Ok records with terrible departure drama. We have enough of that already. Look how much better Bud is doing with Bucks... no Christmas cards from the Nets arrriving anytime soon.
Not saying we have to go with the coach with the most integrity - but maybe just stay away from the ones that seem lowest on the recent list. I'd personally go for Atkinson as he seems like a good fit for the type of roster we currently have and wouldn't have to trade low on all our young players to acquire 29 year old vets to sneak into the playoffs next season.
Id be very disappointed in Rose's lack of imagination, if Kidd is hired. If we're getting a new HC, I hope more thought is put into it. So many better choices out there. Including the present coach.

He didn’t try to overthrow a HC, he tried to overthrow the worst GM in NBA history in Billy King. Think about that, because we’ve had some real stinkers as GMs and Billy King was worse than all of them. His only issues with coaches was when he had beef with his assistant coach Lawrence Frank and it spilled out into the media.
Also yes Bud is a better coach than Kidd, arguably Budd is the best coach in the NBA. Kidd however took a bunch of Scraps like a skinny Giannis and said put the ball in his hands and that is a major key to Giannis becoming the MVP he is now. He took a second rounder in Malcolm Brogdon (a pg, like we will likely draft) and got ROY production from him. Kidd took Middleton who was a no name add on in a Brandon Knight trade and set him on the path to him being a All Star. His development credentials outshine all the other candidates in the pipeline.
Bring Kidd to NY, draft a PG (hopefully Hayes), let Kidd take RJ aside and teach him how to be the man with the ball in his hands. Keep Miller on as the defensive coach since that is the only real flaw to his coaching history and lets see what happens.
Saying Kidd is a car salesman is mixing him up with Fizdale, his record shows that every team he’s join got better with him. I am not saying he is the long term fix, but for where we are he might be exactly what the Knicks need.

What is less imaginative than hiring your friend who completely failed his last job? Thibs sucks, his systems are outdated on both sides of the ball, and him wanting a long contract screams “get paid by these suckers” like Larry Brown did.
Kidd's player development skills hasn't stood out and hasn't been talked about, i think its not his strong suit at all. Hiring him would signal giving up on most of the team's youth. I would expect knox, DSJ and Frank to be casualties if this hire becomes a reality. I see a Kidd hire as a signal to an end to the patient approach, for this to work the front office will be looking to replicate a knicks-denver trade situation bring it the superstar they want at any cost type of deal. In other words, i don't think he is a good coach. I think Kidd can do well if he has descent tools, that is not the knicks right now. I truly hope I'm wrong on this. I really cant see why this hire is a good idea.
I never wanted Thibs and now we get even worse with Kidd. The pain never ends.
He is more likely to wrap his car around a tree than win a chip. I’m a pretty hard pass.

+1

Is this a Madlib where you put Kidd in the space where Thibs is supposed to be?
Not even joking that is literally what A Thibs hiring says, not a Kidd hiring who literally at his last job successfully developed a bunch of kids.
The Bucks has the worst (or one of the worst) records in the league and he took a team of mostly youth to the playoffs that year.
EwingsGlass wrote:He is more likely to wrap his car around a tree than win a chip. I’m a pretty hard pass.
Yeah I thought that too and then he came here later that week and was the best PG we had since the 90’s.
Also he did win a chip..... and we don’t need him to be the coach to win a chip here we need him to mentor a ball dominant wing like he did Giannis and a PG like he did Brogdon. It wouldn’t hurt if he could get Knox and Frank shooting like Middleton from 3 either......
I have no argument with Kidd the player. He won a chip and planted his car in the shrubbery. I agree our guys need to learn how to shoot better. I’m not sure how much of Giannis is attributable Kidd. Bud appears to have really unlocked these guys’ potential.

They were getting better every year, also Bud added better 3pt shooting Bigs in Lopez. Adding Mirotec to that was also big.
Bud is the better coach and put the better team around Giannis, but Kidd was the one who said let’s make Giannis into a point forward. That was really big. Honestly, that is what I am hoping the next coach does with RJ. Put the ball in his hands.
If it’s between the 3 Illl take Kidd

I believe it was Atkinson he turned Lopez into a 3 pt shooter.
Strategically, the hiring of Kidd would be a huge mistake. While I respect that he is a competent coach, he has yet to prove that he is a great coach, and he was essentially run out of his last two jobs (I know he left the Nets, but he was on the way out). I can understand hiring Thibbs, and I can understand hiring Woodson or Atkinson, but Kidd has not proved it yet as a coach, and the idea that Giannis is going to sign here for Kidd is just a pipe dream. We would be better off keeping Miller, who deserves another season, before signing Kidd, plus Miller would be alot cheaper if Dolan is worried about money (noting the rumor that the hold up with Thibbs is about Dolan not wanting to agree to his salary demand). Just retain Miller. He deserves a shot, and if the team flounders, then it will be easy to pin it on him and hire a new coach next year (when we should have another two first round picks in a very deep draft).
What exactly is Kidd good at regarding coaching? Not a good record on player development, not good at defense, not good at offensive sets, only seems good at interviews and charming people, and we just had that with Fiz and it got us nowhere.

I need you to show me how he isn’t good at player development. Give me the receipts. I just wrote multiple post on why his player development is on par with Kenny, with examples and sources. So please provide both sources and examples to counter it.
