Not quite a secret around the league, but I keep hearing the Pelicans would like to move up in the draft and move Lonzo Ball off the roster. Also no secret his father wants him in the largest market possible.

His cap charge next season, based on rookie slotting, makes him essentially a middle class player compensation wise even though he's on his rookie contract.

Here's a rough mock draft to see players in the range of No#13
I chose No#6 overall as it's sort of a middle ground of where the Knicks might pick.
The CAA/Leon Rose connection means the Knicks will get some kind of offer. I do not typically post trade scenarios, if I do, there's a reason for it.

Neither of them are a legit threat to score when the game slows down to a half court situation. I don’t think so.....
if we're trading back 7 spots and getting Ball, that kinda is crazy and you would have to do it. Even if you traded Ball after - seems like a no brainer.
A more realistic scenario is trading our 2nd first as well.
Ball can't shoot and that is a problem, but the fact is he is a skilled orchestrator, and we need that. I don't know what Thibodeau wants in a PG.

I’ve lost interest in Ball. I don’t like how he played in the bubble. I wouldn’t trade anything of value for him.

I probably would not. At 6, I would love to get Halliburton. I think he is my final choice if we pick at 6. In fact, I hope he is still there then. I think we need someone who can nail the 3pt at PG in order to get more out of RJ Barrett. Ball doesn’t get us there. The more I read and see of Halliburton, the more I am impressed.
Definitely have to consider it. Ball is an elite passed and an improved 3 pt shooter. He is also a much better defender than he is given credit for. With this trade, There will be some good prospects at 13...Maxey, Nesmith ( possibly), Bey, Ramsey etc. And we will still have pick 27. Like I said, I would seriously co sides it...

I don't know how people can be so keen for Lamelo, but so adamantly opposed to Lonzo- there's a reasonable chance LaMelo essentially becomes his brother.

I'd consider RJ for Lonzo Ball and their 12th. We'd then still have our 6-8 plus the the Pelicans 12th. You could then draft Nesmith plus someone else like Vassell, or whatever. I'm just not sold on RJ because I think he's difficult to build around.

He was playing well before the bubble and actually making his 3s. 8 bubble games cancel that out? I'm not a big fan of RJ's, landing Ball plus the 13th would allow us to draft two good 3pt shooters and would give us an excellent passer. This would greatly help Mitch's development, and would be good for any future young players we draft (we desperately need a good passing PG and spacing to get help any young player develop).
he's got one more year on his deal.. fuck no I would not trade #6 for a Ball. I don't even think I would want to trade Ball for our secnod rounder, considering TWO teams have decided Ball is not a part of their future... this is an Isiah Thomas trade idea

Yes, I had high hopes and expectations for the Pelicans this Summer. I wanted to see both Zion and Ball rise up a little. I didn’t see that. Ball did not play well when they needed him to step up.
And yes, I have soured on Zion a little as well.

Not understood by us is the value of Frank by the current coach and management. Not an endorsement by this fanboy, just a question.
If we seem him as still having the upside and Nola has to manage can and slight Ingram I could see a Frank/late first round for Lonzo. If our Lottery falls opportune and we can draft Lamelo then can Thibs mold them and perhaps make for an interesting theme?
Conversely the thought of Lavar is nauseating.
This guy was checked out during the bubble 8 seeding games like i said before the ball brothers cant handle pressure. If you need to get motivated in 8 seeding games to get to playoffs and play like you don't care then good riddance to you as a basketball player.

For me there are a couple of questions I would consider:
- Has Ball been put into a good enough position to succeed and grow?
- Is there much of a value difference between players at around #6 versus the #12 range (I think NO is 12 not 13)?
- Would Ball's impact on team help other guys?
Shooting and stats aside, has Ball ever really been the primary PG for his team? Perhaps his first year but he was also on court with a young Ingram and Randle, usage stats seems low for a PG. Second year he was with LeBron and Rondo? This past year in lineup with Zion, Ingram, Jrue all of whom had really high usage again compared to Ball. I have really never seen Ball play so I don't know if he was off ball or primary ball handler full time.
So is he Russell pre Nets? Can Thibs and team put Ball into a position to really unlock what he is supposed to be good at? This past season Ball shot 3 pointers better than Russell has ever done and had a similar eFG%. Obviously his FT% sucks.
The Knicks don't have a break down player really and they are also missing a guy who constantly looks for Mitch at rim and I think Ball could do this with ease. Don't think any of the PGs really pushed the ball consistently either.
If the Knicks draft a PG at #6, that player really won't have an impact for at least a year or so, maybe 2-3 years. Is there another guy drafted in that range that can start day 1 and/or have positive impact on team?
Feel like there is probably something going on in Balls life and that's why he was dead in Orlando and why the Pelicans may sell low.
Knicks need young talent and a 2 for 1 fits that for me. Bump Ball's value next year and see what happens. I'd do this deal.

They were happy with Ball and the talk was about them re-signing him before Orlando. Then the went to Orlando and was awful and some said he'd checked out- something seems to have happened since the season finished. Personally, if you're building round Zion (which may be a mistake if he can't get his weight under control), then I think you need to surround him with 4 shooters, so Ball isn't the best it at PG.
