We need a PG or a wing that can shoot. Cole Anthony, Vassell, and Nesmith all fit. Anthony obviously has most upside and downside. All 3 are floor spacers.
If Cole is anything like Greg as a player, I do not want him with the #8 pick. The physical resemblance is striking.

If trading up to 6th to leap frog Detroit to get Kilian Hayes is one of their plans, i hope it wont cost so much. I do hope the knicks just keep the pick and trust the inputs of their new hires. Unlike previous years we have an assistant who knows the ins and outs in of the college scene, specially with a protracted college season, the hundreds of hours Kenny payne have spent scouting his college opponents can give an insight as to who has the most potential for the 8th pick, then the front office should listen to the inputs.
If Payne thinks, okoro or Vessell or Cole Anthony is the right pick at 8, il be on board. We just have to pick right at this range, a handful of superstars in the NBA now are not even in the top 5 of their draft class.
fwk00@ 8/21/2020 11:42 AM
What inevitably happens in drafting is that whoever the Knicks talk up at their given lottery spot, the MSM will ensure that player or players are selected before the Knicks pick - never fails on happening.

Vassell is a better passer, rebounder, defender than Nesmith. More of a SG but I would take him over Nesmith

Would rather pick the best player available. Think our later picks can be position need based picks.
The best player may not be the best fit.
Why would you prefer talent over fit?
This is the old, we won't draft Jordan cause we already have Clyde on the roster argument. Talent generally always wins and then you make it work

Yes, Vassell may not be the most obvious pick even at eight but he has a lot of feel for the game that lots of players never have. Its corny to express it this way but the [basketball] force is with him. Watch his defensive videos and he's always in the right place at the right time. Now that doesn't make him a superstar but it does make the game easier for the rest of the team.
Knox will not be a bust but it will take him years to get to where Vassell is as a player.
If Vassell is on the board at eight, I hope the brain trust thinks three times before passing on him if he's not the pick.

8 pick.... I think its karma for blaming KP, knowing that front office ruined everything....

Same thing was said about Mike Redd and Klay Thompson. His one great skill is so good and he is proven over 120 shots while being keyed on( that’s important)
I’d do comparison with Saddiq Bey and Vessell— those are your two comparatives. But I’ll take the Glen Rice like shooter any day. Best sh pop yer in draft.

No one said that about Redd. He was a good athlete who couldn't shoot. He turned himself into a great shooter in the pros. Klay's concern was defensive toughness. That clearly changed when he got to the pros. Difference between Rice and Nesmith is that Rice was a legit 6'8" and a good athlete.

The best thing about having the 8th pick is I'm so confused about who the f*** to draft, I'm not going to be stressed about it- Okongwu, Vassell, Nesmith, Maxey, whoever's there- I'm so confused I don't even care anymore- just as long as it's not Cole Anthony
Dunking between the legs at 15. I don’t know that’s pretty Athletic. I like his size and jump shot I have read anywhere where he couldn’t play d and rebound
Uptown@ 8/21/2020 1:12 PM
Drafting Vassell will make up for missing out on Mikal Bridges....If thats the route we want to go. Vassell is one of the best defensive players in the draft and is an excellent spot up shooter.
@ 8, I''m looking at Vassell, Anthony, Okoro and Nesmith.
smackeddog@ 8/21/2020 1:17 PM
Jalen Smith and Patrick Williams are meant to be on the rise- anyone know much about them?
How’s this guy a bad athlete? Also he said he’s 6-6 225. Glen rice was 6-8 220
Are those highschool kids? Here is a video of Glen Rice. Notice how easily he rises over defenders from three and the mid-range. That's the difference. Same level of ball handling, but Rice can simply rise up when he's stopped. Now, I'm not say Nesmith is trash. He could very well be the best option at 8. But the Glen Rice/Klay comparisons are out of wack.

I remember us having the same conversation about Lonzo Ball and his "elite" athleticism and I posted a vid of Nik Stauskas doing the same dunk. That dunk is pretty routine these days.

It never gets old
for example: Is frank better for the triangle or 7 seconds or less
IMO system plays a key role in who you bring in.

ESOMKnicks wrote:POKU is a great risk to take at 27 and a terrible risk to take at 8. He is no Giannis, and probably not even a KP, although his reading of the game makes me think he would be a very useful player in the NBA. Great as a third or fourth best player on a team in a plug and play role. Like a poor man's Tony Kukoc.
But if we find a way to net both POKU and Nesmith in this draft without giving up any significant assets, I would be ecstatic.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. I am moving back toward Vassell, now that 8 is ours. The Clippers pick and our 2nd really excite based on the quality we have created with later picks. Kind of wondering what the front office will pull off. I am hoping they find a project 6’1 guard that is uber athletic with one of those picks.
