Knicks · Knicks 8 for Boston 14/26/30? (page 1)

I’m not advocating but thoughts?

I'd jump on it, but they'd laugh and hang up or maybe hang up and laugh. I think we might be able to to out right buy some picks given the current landscape tho.

The draft is always quality over quantity.
I'll take the higher pick over multiple end of round picks every day of the week and twice on Thursdays.

Yeah, but I'm sure the ratings most teams have of players 8-14 are pretty similar. Boston doesn't really have a glaring need to address except overall depth.

Jimbo5 @ 8/20/2020 11:45 PM
I dont see us doing this. Imagine on a weak draft the knick will have the 14th, 26th, 27th, 30th and 38th? The trolls will have a field mocking the knicks with this. If those picks are for next year's draft, that will be a different story.
jskinny35 @ 8/21/2020 12:15 AM
Maybe better to trade our #8 pick for a future 1st rounder - but target the lousy teams that are in the lottery year after year... not the Celts but the T-Wolves, Hawks, Hornets, etc... Unless we really think the #8 pick is going to yield us a starting player, maybe best to try again next year as maybe the lottery balls finally fall in our favor. Just don't like the idea of going for the best 6th man or role player with a top 10 pick. Or we could package for a decent young player with promise - Lauri (Bulls) or Lonzo Ball (NO) could be available for a pick (and maybe throw in)...
Clean @ 8/21/2020 1:07 AM
I don't know what to do. I did not want us to play for big Free agents because we will never get them. It is now obvious that we can't even go for the draft because if there is a chance we can drop it will happen. I think I am just resigned to us always getting the short end of the stick.

From what I'm hearing, the Celtics are going to need to swing and miss on Greek Freak first before Hayward is available to anyone else. Bucks will want Tatum, Boston will offer a package around Jaylen Brown and Hayward would be involved to help the Bucks shed/offset some of the other bigger veteran contracts.

Both Philly and Boston are gunning for Greek Freak and trying to use the other team as a third wheel in a trade. LOL.

Embiid being the major piece moving from the 76ers. Teams are all swarming the phone lines in Philly, each trying to get in line first to fuck over Elton Brand for either Simmons or Embiid. How the 76ers could fuck up so badly after Hinkie ( the two Colangelos and Brand) is kind of staggering.

Ainge is apparently trying to initiate a possible 5 team trade in the offseason. Annoying fucker but huge balls on that guy.

Knicks might be able to get 30 for 38 plus cash

We already have three picks in this draft. I don't think getting 5 picks in a weak draft is the best course of action. We should stand pat and just draft the bpa.

It's pointless the NBA has made it virtually impossible for bad teams to get better. If they really wanted to help bad teams they should average the last 3 years of the draft for position. It's ridiculous that the Warriors have the 2nd pick

i agree they also need more amnesty. Bad teams need to take risks and if you swing and miss on, e.g., Noah, not only are you stuck paying money for a guy who isn't deliverying but you're hamstrung from trying to get someone else because he's stuck on your cap

should be more like NFL

and to the original post: this is a bad idea

the thought brings flashbacks to when we had three firsts and John Wallace. If we had a history of killing it with our picks i'd think differently but it's been a long time since we've found true diamonds in the rough

Robinson should qualify as diamond in the rough.
And they found serviceable players in the undrafted pool.
Galloway comes to mind as well as Trier.

Jimbo5 @ 8/21/2020 11:19 AM
Thats what confuses me the most with the previous front office, they can evaluate players that are in the 2nd round as well as with the undrafted players. How come they didn't fare well when the picked Knox in the first round. What was the difference? Hopefully they can correct this by letting payne and Bryant develop knox correctly, if we believe what calapari said about knox, we should be seeing improvements for this coming year.

It is all about insider trading. Somebody's Dad knows someone in the organization and so every ex-NBA player's son gets special preference. It's nepotism, it's agent shysters, it's starry-eyed glamour wannabee part of the scene stuff that gets us crappier picks up top.

There are two things in play. The devotion to the magic powers of numerology - boo, hoo - we're picking eight instead of one. As if it matters in any real sense.

On another level its about the eternal HYPE machine, player X is sooooo much more desirable than that gritty kid who was born with talent to the wrong family.

We gotta get over this sh@t.

Agree 100%. I've been saying this for a while. One fluke bad year due to injuries should not supercede continuous suckitude

Panos @ 8/21/2020 4:56 PM
In fact maybe they should weigh in how many years a team has been in the lottery.
NardDogNation @ 8/21/2020 6:20 PM
What about keeping the 8th pick and trying to trade Dennis Smith Jr for that 14th pick while exchanging our 27th pick for their 26th pick and our 38th pick for their 30th?

The thinking here is that Brad Stephens could work his magic and turn Dennis Smith Jr into useful player. Kemba Walker will likely become a albatross due to his declining health and size, which might make a gamble like Smith worthwhile for them. At the very least, DSJr should be an improvement over Brad Wannermaker and is more a facsimile to Walker's style of play (nuclear athlete, attacking guard that can facilitate). Admittedly, I'd prefer to draft a Kira Lewis Jr and Tyrese Maxey at 14, if I'm the Celtics but I'm biased against DSJr which might jade my judgment of him.

The idea of flopping the latter picks is to save the Celtics money on the periphery. They are set to become hellaciously expensive, so every dollar counts. Like TripleThreat and others have mentioned numerous times, the talent becomes fairly similar in this range of the draft, which makes me think that cost become more of a focus than any one particular player especially with the Celtics needing bench depth at every position.
