This is totally unexpected. Kd an Nash knew each other from GSW. They're in win now mode and hire a totally inexperienced coach. This is not logic.
Steve Kerr had no experience.
The need someone that demands respect from KD and Kyrie, Nash brings that. Certainly out of the box, but he’s one of the smartest players to ever play the game and got more out of folks on the court and is humble. Likely will work out for them.

I'm not saying Nash will be a bad coach but the Nets do not have the same window of opportunity. Durant is in his 30's and GSW had been together a few years before Steve Kerr came. It was mostly working on its own.
I love Nash, and think he would be a good addition to any coaching staff, but cmon on man, this is another slap in the face to all the black experience qualified coaches available.
Well....I can't see this be any worse than the Kidd hire. I mean Nash has years if experience and worked his way up the ranks, right? Good thing the Nets are the Nets and continue to Nets things up, or they would've taken the city from the Knicks a decade ago.

Steve had years of hands on front office experience. I guess it's the same if you count Canadian basketball.

KD must have sold him well to get him, not sure what Irving had to say on this.
They need experienced coaches on the bench for this to work. One thing about Nash that will work to his favor vs. Kidd is he has no ego and was not known to burn bridges

I think it's too risky. Their window is too small to take a chance like this. Should've brought him on as assistant with the potential to step in after a year and a half.

Feel bad for Vaughn- he did a good job these playoffs, then gets pushed aside for someone with zero coaching experience. I know Nash has made him his top assistant, but it should really be the other way round.

Kerr inherited a roster with four future HOFers on it, including two of the best shooters in league history, including the best long range gunner ever. Also a generational level defender plus a top 25 historical defender. With a clean cap sheet. And they signed a fifth future HOFer not long after.
This "demands respect" thing needs an overhaul. If Tim Duncan wanted to take 35 bad shots a game, no one could have stopped him, including Pop. If Duncan got moody and said I'll leave in FA or you fire Pop, the team would have fired Pop. Some teams are just lucky, they get guys ( Nash, Grant Hill, Duncan, Manu, Curry, Thompson) who aren't total assholes. They choose to buy into the team concept because they want to win. They could have easily chose something different.
Riley has respect around the league. However Dwayne Wade refused to develop a three point shot and cut weight to give him more durability during the season. He also refused to stay to Spolestra's defensive system when he got pissed off or bored. He also would complain on calls while his team was defending 4 on 5 the other way on the break when Riley asked him to stop.
Durant/Irving want a coach who will let them do what they want to do. The question is if Nash can help out the role players. The problem here is Durant and Irving have taken over Sean Marks' job. No team that is reasonably run and wants to contend will sign Jamal Crawford. He's 40 years old and has lost 5 steps and is a defensive turnstile.
I'm happy for Nash, but this won't end well.
BRILLIANT HIRE, because, the Nets, right? I mean the Knicks hired the most accomplished coach on the market after an extensive search and all I hear is it is at best 50/50 that it was a good decision.
Mike Kay raved that the Knicks didnt talk to JVG....I wonder if he has the same passion that the Nets barely talked to anyone.

Kyrie doesn't respect anyone. KD is a Diva. Thinking they are just gonna respect Nash, especially if he doesn't start well out of the gate is a mistake.

Hopefully it won't, though maybe Kyrie and KD are just going to do whatever they like on the court, and Nash is just a face who gets on okay with them and lets them do what they like
funny - I never quite thought Nash had it in him. I liked watching him on TNT with their Soccer coverage- when it switched to CBS, he was gone. I never thought he had it in him - but again, hard to tell from simply watching coverage of soccer.

Everything you said about Nash in terms of being one of the smartest player, demands respect, applies to Kidd (who was a better overall player) as well...At least he had experience. Ty Lue won a chip'. Nets may have just outsmarted themselves.

The larger question for the Knicks, our beloved Knicks, is whether it's better to just build a high floor team.
The Nets were building something nice. Marks and Atkinson turned that team around. They were playing hard, they were playing together, there was a vision and everyone was focused on winning. Then the team got a couple of "superstars" and it all turned to shit. But if you look around the league, except for GSW, it seems to all turn to shit. Superstars holding their teams hostage and all this fabricated drama and guys basically running their coaches and front offices from the court.
I would be happy with 8 Mikal Bridges on my roster. Solid guys who play the right way, play fundamental and would make fans proud of them. Guys who honor the jerseys they put on and don't need to align to what Nike says or what they need to be appealing on Twitter or that happy horseshit. Would never win a championship, but could probably get you fun basketball to watch. I don't see this as a failure, I see chasing superstars, most of them, as a type of tax on dignity.
Look at how many rosters that cocksucker LeBron James has driven into the ground. He had to be LeGM. Then LeCoach. Now LeMandela.
Maybe it's just my age, but winning a ring at the cost of all this simping seems like too high a price for me.
