Knicks · Would you welcome back Melo on a one year deal? (page 1)

Philc1 @ 9/12/2020 8:42 PM
Reason I ask is it looks like we are going to trade for Chris Paul after cutting half the roster. Knicks will only be able to offer free agents MLE. Carmelo can still play PF and shoot. I actually think RJ as a point forward would like to kick it out to Melo to knock down a 3
unstopaball12 @ 9/13/2020 1:48 AM
Looks like he won't come back and is at Ease at finishing in portland.

I'd look at the Morris twins instead. Both can come in at a decent price and load up our frontcourt if we unload Randle and portis

Not so fast, if the bucks keep Giannis, then Bucks is still CP3s most likely landing spot.

No I don’t want melo, I think the blazers are a great fit for him. Here he’d just become Randle mark 2, hogging the ball- what’s the point?

We should sign Marcus Morris just to troll KP

Randle can’t shoot (29% from 3). Carmelo obviously can shoot

Think it would be half and half. Many still blame Melo for all our problems despite providing the only year of significance in the last 20 years. And his alleged ties to giving up the best PG we have ever had.

Question is, why would he want to play here? And why would the Knicks want him here in yet another rebuilding year? Unless they are planning on overpaying/bringing in two top level former superstars along. Hope that is not the case.

If not, not a good fit for either party.

fwk00 @ 9/13/2020 11:34 AM
Melo.

He's like foot fungus isn't he.

No matter how successful we ever are at getting rid of it, it just keeps coming back.

He's happy in Portland, we're happy for him. Why ruin a happy meal?

So he could ruin the next best PG we've ever had, of course. In less than two months with Melo, Frankie will be all over TMZ with hoes in bathrobes, wearing stupid hats and shitting on Leon's baguettes. He'll also stop playing defense entirely. And he'll get Thibs fired.

It's funny. That there are folks on here who will fawn over a Prez who couldn't figure out what he was doing one millon-dollar month to the next, accomplished nothing, but continue to fawn because he pissed all over the only playoff-level star we've had in 20 years. After giving him an NT clause.

Melohate. Hopefully there's a cure. God help this board if Leon does drag him back here and we make the playoffs immediately. LMAO

Disagree. Melo definitely opened up a lot of doubting eyes in the bubble. Fact is he was a very reliable shooter and showed again to want to help a team win in different capacity. He is a hall of famer that is not afraid of the moment. A thing any team in the playoffs needs. Feel several contending teams would be open to adding him.
Do think Portland is the best fit and comfort level for him. Lakes are another possibility. But again, would not be surprised to see him on several contending teams. If anything, see absolutely zero chance he feels NY is a good landing spot for him? What exactly would that do for him or us? He is looking for a chance to compete for a chip. And he already knows first hand the shit show that is the Knicks. And we are looking to build a long term roster.

GustavBahler @ 9/14/2020 2:51 PM
No. Who would be surprised if Melo looked at the roster and started pushing for a bigger role. If this team was ready to contend, sure. Its not.

Seems happy with the Blazers.

Common sense. Thibs wants to win. He's not running a celebrity going away tour. Melo contributes in Portland. They like him.

There's nothing for him to do here. Take minutes away from the kids? Please.

What kids? RJ is a SF/SG and Robinson is a Center. Whoever we draft at 8 will be a wing. Melo is a PF

I just don’t see what the bucks can offer for Paul that would match the knicks randle Knox and 27 while taking on 44mil without losing valuable assets they don’t want to give up... Unless the bucks make a bonehead move for a 36 year old Paul . And really it would be OKC that would be bone headed to take Bledsoe and Middleton for 4 and 5 years ... otherwise bucks have nothing to offer. Our players have friendlier contracts and our pick is better then bucks can offer.

Yeah, because they knew we weren't gonna to make any counter adjustments. Melo was just going to shoot. Things like cutting and off ball movement aren't part of Melo's game. I'm not crapping on Melo. Look how effective he was taking the most difficult shots on the court. He still put up solid shooting numbers. But can you imagine if he worked within the system to get easier opportunities? He might've been able to put up LeBron and KD levels of efficiency. Eh, we'll never know.

If Melo cared and tried he could have had two HOF careers within one career timeline. That's both a testament to his base physical God given talent and the massive waste of potential across his entire career. You would need to look at guys like Roger Clemens to find anyone with that same potential.

He could have carved himself a 2nd half of his entire career arc as one of top small ball 5's in the game.

All criticism about Melo are acknowledgements of his vast talent but also how he squandered his potential.

That being said, there were many games where he would refuse to close out a shooter and many times more than that where he wouldn't even bother to get his hands up in the air. Fuck Melo. If you can't put on a Knicks jersey and play every game like it's your last day on Earth then go pack your trash and GTFO.

I suppose the only consolation for Melo now is Cam Newton has taken the title of stupidest hats worn by a professional athlete in America.

Oh man, so precise and so true. Yet you must have meant "as a small ball 4"right?
