If this is how the draft plays out, why trade down? I havent followed college much this year, but all the guys people talked about is available at 8.

"Some scouts think No. 2 would be a reach for a prospect with a potentially unworkable shooting motion and unremarkable athleticism – and it would be – but Haliburton’s game could fit nicely into that Shaun Livingston-sized hole on the Warriors’ roster.

NBADraft.net has Haliburton slotted at No. 8 to the Knicks, who have been in need of a legitimate point guard since the end of Linsanity. Haliburton isn’t the cleanest fit alongside RJ Barrett, but the Knicks just need talent and ball-handlers to jump-start the monumental rebuild Leon Rose and company have ahead of them."

Imagine Boston with Vassel or a few of the other more interesting picks. And we'd be sitting around with 4 or 5 Cleanthony Earlys. That would be tough to take.

Atlanta is thinking about this right now, as they look at Luka

True but they have Trae Young. Boston did this with Fultz and ended up with a pick and Tatum.

Yes but Boston did it knowing Philly wanted Fultz, and they knew they didn't want Fultz; they also did it years ago trading pick for Joe Berry Carrol for what would turn out to be Parrish and McHale

Here you're talking about slots and not sure who will be there.

there used to be a saying, "If Red Auberach calls you, hang up". If you think you're getting a better end of the deal with Boston, you're wrong

It's a good question and a fair one. Who says either side has to lose this trade. Maybe, though it's rare to happen, it could be a win/win for both sides.

As a matter for thought discussion, who would you take if you inherited this situation as a brand new GM?

(Same question being asked of techno, Philc1, Nalod, everyone else, etc, etc, thanks)

Well I'm not going to say who i would pick because it would almost certainly be horrible. I thought Derrick chievous was can't miss back when i watched a lot of college ball.

But I would be focusing on a guy that would help establish an identity I wanted, especially this being the first year of the regime. If it were me I'd be focusing on heart and brains and hyper-competitive, lead by example type. How does the guy handle adversity.

My own suspicion is that Boston wants to move up for someone like Vassell, Okoro or Nesmith and sees us as the sucker at the table.

No. Stay at 8 and get whatever wing whip can shoot and play D falls

Halliburton will have to be a 2 guard in the nba.
