Knicks · Ummmmm wtf NBA? (page 1)

RJ Barrett was snubbed for both All Rookie and the 2nd team this year. Absolute nonsense. I know he was very inefficient but cmon.
Allanfan20 @ 9/15/2020 7:23 PM
That’s on the writers not the NBA.

2 things- 1) At least we can’t call him overrated.
2) I hope this lights a serious fire under his gluteus maximus.

franco12 @ 9/15/2020 7:59 PM
I have no problem with this. I'm pissed off that with the third pick of the draft, we kinda got a marginal player.

I thought at the draft I would prefer RJ to Ja, and that if Ja fell, I'd feel like we lost out.

How wrong I was. We can talk about the BS with Fisdale, but somehow I

I have a feeling that if we had gotten Ja, he would have excelled.

We lack talent. We lack luck. I'm too old to sustain much passion for this messed up franchise.

Barrett is 19 and was in a bad situation. You put Ja here with half court players that can’t shoot and will get a similar result. The reality is Barrett wasn’t viewed as a marginal prospect prior to being drafted by the Knicks. He was the consensus #1 pick before Zion and Ja took off and would be the #1 pick in this draft based on success at Duke.

Probably the larger consideration is how the Knicks can better identify and sign and retain someone like Kendrick Nunn.

Nunn was an UDFA who went to the Warriors G League team but couldn't survive their roster crunch. GSW has done a good job identifying late value, but they didn't do their best to retain him, but their situation was complex.

Nunn, Duncan Robinson and Chris Chiozza were all UDFA during the Knox draft.

The next season, the Knicks didn't have a 2nd rounder since they traded it in that Outlaw/Moultrie trade ( Thanks Phil, you idiot) Eric Paschall and Bol Bol would have looked good in a Knicks jersey. Lugentz Dort, John Konchar and Tacko Fall were all UDFAs.

I recognize UDFAs are hit and miss, but the Knicks are not in a position to keep walking away with little to no value here. It's good the Knicks hired Brock Aller and others this season, but for a cash rich team like the Knicks to not have the best video/scouting/analytics/medical departments is inexcusable.

Phil just traded way too many 2nd rounders to make any kind of sense. RJ Barrett was value for slot. It's hard to knock the Knicks for taking him given their draft position and the time and place. But they gotta make value out of the entire draft, including the 2nd round, including buying very late 2nd rounders and including scouring UDFA better.

Fucking Tyler Herro. He's probably pissed he's not first team and will make the rest of the league suffer for it for the rest of his career

blkexec @ 9/15/2020 10:12 PM
Puts a chip on RJ shoulders. I like it. Especially since he already plays hard and not afraid of the moment.
TPercy @ 9/15/2020 10:26 PM
The motivation points make sense for RJ and I think he’d get motivated for it, but I personally take him over White and Hachimura without question.

Agreed. If his shot develops and once he gains just a little more experience, the league is in for it.

Yeah one thing I wish we did was take more chances on guys who were considered top prospects but fell out b/c of injury/ situation concerns. We had success with Mitch but yeah our scouting department has to do better especially in this upcoming draft.

We should be looking at confident two way shooters + guys with unique skill sets as that seems to be the common trend with these surprise breakout players.

jskinny35 @ 9/15/2020 10:43 PM
RJ is gonna be fine - probably an All-Star a few times. If his perimeter and free throw shooting improves this season - he'll be even better. He seems to have drive, doesn't rely on athleticism, attacks the basket and plays defense - I see all the ingredients for a future occasional All-Star.
smackeddog @ 9/16/2020 2:39 AM
Not many people realised, but Nunn fell off a cliff after his hot streak to start the season- look at his monthly breakdowns, see him being MIA in the playoffs.

Yeah the all rookie teams don’t matter because all of those media types would still draft Barrett 3rd in a redraft. Maybe a couple draft Herro instead, but we have to realize herro has excelled early because of the situation he is in has maximized his ability early on.

Its hard to be a starter as a rookie and not make one of those teams, You have to really be unimpressive.

SupremeCommander @ 9/16/2020 8:11 AM
He shot 40.2/32/61.4

I think he deserved a spot, but I mean it isn't like he blew away the competition. I am kinda glad he will be able to use this as ammunition.. he does need to take a step forward this year or we are DOA

newyorknewyork @ 9/16/2020 8:26 AM
Kind of messed up to have Terrance Davis II in there over Barrett. Barrett had waay more responsibility, waay worse coach, waay less talent around him.

Unless you play for the knicks.
Chandler @ 9/16/2020 8:40 AM
anyone who doesn't think he should have made one of these lists needs his head examined. RJ is way, way better than a lot of guys on that list. Even if you were disappointed with his playas a #3 pick (and frankly i was not considering his age, his role and context) I don't see how anyone can think COby, PJ or Rui deserved their nod over RJ

The KNicks players should boycott the media. It has become too high fashion for the media to shit on the Knicks 24/7

Yes they're allowed to express their opinions about the players, but it's high time the Knicks players expressed their opinion about the media.

He would have made my first team. Kid played with poise and desire. He needs to work on his FT and shooting, but everyone on that list has flaws. I'm looking forward to watching him for a long time, hopefully as a 2 playing his bully ball style

I think Ja would have made us a far better team than what RJ's impact was. I don't think RJ would have performed any better joining the Grizzlies instead of NY.

JA is simply a far better talent, and there is no reason to pretend otherwise.

Ja is a better player, but his impact would have been minimized on the Knicks with the poor veteran fits, and Barrett would have had a very good year and given the keys to the Grizzlies team with shooters and defense around him and open floor players. I don't think there's any doubt about it. NY would have been slightly better with Ja and Memphis would have been far worse with Barrett in place of Ja, but their success (or lack of in Barrett's case) would have been significantly different.

We had all the assets to move up and thats why Mills goes down (IMO) as the worst GM/Pres in the HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE. Simply because he had more to work with then any other president ever (cap space, high draft picks) and a young all star building block in KP... every move he made was LAME, not a single impressive move at all
