Knicks · Ummmmm wtf NBA? (page 3)
We don't get 10 game stats so we can see progress.
Do writers across the country "Hate" the knicks? Perhaps. Have we given them reason not to "love" us? Not really.
Not justifyable to leave him off and the worst part is the hard work he put in not recognized by the writers.
I really like his resiliancy demonstrated. Bad summer league start, thrown right into the fire as a rookie, bad FT%..........but the kid over came and improved.
Funny though, most of us are not that excited about him either despite the SOLID rookie campaign. I saw some elite to the rim finish, good defense, and a great work ethic from a true 19 year old.
Fanbase shold me more hyped.

RJ is a good foundational player to have in terms of building a roster. Versatile, core strength, high effort on both ends, young and with very good character. He is not the flashy, ultra-athletic or sharpshooter type of player that catches the eye of writers - especially ones not in this market. Nor was he on a good team. These types of things work against him in this type of vote....not even counting the anti-NY bias that may exist.

66 games, played in 56 games, started 55. Just one ankle sprain. Returned and finished well.
That alone makes me happy. Not hyped, but happy.

The bottom line numbers are not good 40%fg 32%3pt and 61%FT and his team in the lottery.
You think he should be rewarded for that effort?
Its also pretty dam ridiculous that zion played in just 24 games and was selected
A 19 year old averaging 14 and 5 is pretty good and worthy of all rookie team.
A shooting guard who really can shoot is nothing to be rewarded for..14 points taking 13+ shots..seriously dude, your only saying that because he's a knick, if he was on miami, boston, or any other team, you wouldn't have giving a rats ass and would have agreed with the journalist.

you also have to consider where he was picked, had he put those numbers up as a 2nd rounder, that would have been more impressive.
Getting pick that high means higher expectations

We lack talent. We lack luck. I'm too old to sustain much passion for this messed up franchise.
Barrett is 19 and was in a bad situation. You put Ja here with half court players that can’t shoot and will get a similar result. The reality is Barrett wasn’t viewed as a marginal prospect prior to being drafted by the Knicks. He was the consensus #1 pick before Zion and Ja took off and would be the #1 pick in this draft based on success at Duke.
I think Ja would have made us a far better team than what RJ's impact was. I don't think RJ would have performed any better joining the Grizzlies instead of NY.
JA is simply a far better talent, and there is no reason to pretend otherwise.
We had all the assets to move up and thats why Mills goes down (IMO) as the worst GM/Pres in the HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE. Simply because he had more to work with then any other president ever (cap space, high draft picks) and a young all star building block in KP... every move he made was LAME, not a single impressive move at all
Do you know if either were receptive to make a deal?
Do you even have any clue to if any calls were made to Memphis or you just pretending again?
Don't forget that they were going away from Conley or Lowry (don't remember which one), basically their starting PG of many years. They needed a replacement- enter Ja. But of course we have the worst management who fell asleep and did not trade up.

From what I recall they were super happy to draft JA and continue the process of rebuilding. They had traded Gasol at the prior years deadline to Toronto for the younger Valachuas.
Its always possible you can give the store away to move up. In hindsight its even easier.

You don't have to go to far to look for anti-Knick bias. You can find it right here in this thread.

What assets did they have to trade up with? It's not like the Knicks are swimming in picks. They had nothing to offer, unless they decided to gut themselves the way the Clippers did in the Pandemic P trade.

I agree, the Rainman assumption is you can always move up if you sweeten the pot. Last year the draft BEFORE it happens was a three deep picking. Zion, JA, then RJ. PUt yourself in Memphis shoes, they get a new PG to build with and trade Conley for young assets. Its likely not that we did not have anything to offer but what did they want? If they value JA then they’d want a lot. At some point it makes sense.
If for what ever reason Memphis saw RJ as the better pick and thats where they wanted to go and Knicks come a calling they they strike a deal if they kept their cards close to the vest. Thats what. Boston did with Tatum.
