Yes, this is the one year where a deep bench of guys who need time are going to get minutes. Let them all play

I don't how you see that working when both Mills and phil tried their best to be patient and focus on building through the draft, and both were fired.

We really haven't traded any assets since the Bargiani Trade 7 yrs ago..and we have had 6 high picks(Kp, frank, dsj, knox, rj, mudiay)
and we have been the laughing stock of the league, so why should we keep that going?

Because one has nothing to do with the other. And no, Mills and phil weren't patient and were also awful

Flexibility and draft picks are extremely important right now.

We happen to have both. Paul is a great player, but not at $41MM. He’s not a top 15 player right now, yes he’s an All Star, but let’s hang onto our assets for one more season and hope that’s what they become. We finally have a real coaching stuff with a deep bench of assistants that are here to develop the younger guys.

Next year’s draft is going to be strong, we have a 65 game tryout. We aren’t signing a star without trading for one first, next offseason Paul is going to be just another very good player.

Things will likely go south in Minnesota and Phoenix. Booker and Kat will want out of their current situation. The West is just too tough. Robinson, Barret will take steps forward, we have the Dallas picks, this years draft pick should be a keeper, add in another asset in the offseason and the Knicks with have the cap space to sign a big free agent while adding a star player.

Stranger things have happened, the Knicks are moving in the right direction even if no one can see it. Can’t keep going all in on guys past their primes

Is that what your telling your boss and fan base and FA's the plan is?

Mitch and RJ will not get better playing on a BS roster that is not built to win.

You have to put RJ and Mitch in an environment like TYLER HERO,SGA, murry, not like Booker, Kat, Markkenan.

Who have we develop being patient, who have we signed being patient, what good has come out of tanking.

I dont want any player near my roster that is cool with losing, and we have a roster full of those types

All I know for sure is I'm glad you're not the GM!

Edit -- glad I am not the GM as well!

MS @ 11/10/2020 4:17 PM
I don't think anyone is cool with losing. I like the idea of targeting guys that have the ability to shoot and defend. Justin Holiday isn't a guy that's going to move the needle in a big way, but if you can lock free agents like that, that play multiple positions, can defend and are team first you can start to build a culture of grinders.

The Nets did exactly that. Russell took a big leap, I believe RJ can take a similar leap. The Clippers two years ago didn't have major talent but they had grinders.

That's what we should be looking for right now in the draft and in free agency. The kid they like from Washington with our late pick and haliburton / vessel type player.

Paul, Bullock, RJ, Melo, Mitch - is likely what is going to happen if we trade for Paul. Is that the lineup you're excited to watch?

smackeddog @ 11/11/2020 2:34 AM
This makes the most sense for him- a chance at competing (at least for the playoffs), plus a doable trade for both teams:

Its a team at a the right place to take Paul on. they finished real strong last season and he can elevate it further.

Talks have been ongoing and have continued to gather traction, but there is no deal imminent, sources said. There is currently a moratorium on trades as the NBA goes through procedures to start next season ahead of the league's draft next week.

The Thunder have given star players such as Paul George and Russell Westbrook input on trade destinations in the past and have shown a willingness to work with Paul on a trade now, sources said.

That wouldn't be a bad move for him, I just think Leon has the upper hand and he is very interested in coming to NY.

good post. plus Chris is a depreciating asset. His best days are behind him. Yes he's playing great for his age but we're really playing with fire if we go this route

Chandler @ 11/11/2020 10:05 AM
OKC enjoyed success with Paul. They also have a boatload of draft capital that in theory they can turn into players either through draft or trade

So why would they trade? Because Presti is milking suckers at the poker table. He should be giving away assets to get out from under that contract

If CP3 goes to Suns, then who are the main suitors for VanVleet (especially if he wants a big pay day)?

Our chances go up a bit. I'm assuming Oubre goes in a Sun's trade. Maybe we can slip in and the redirect him to us?

BigDaddyG @ 11/11/2020 6:53 PM
Good. I hope this gets sorted out before the draft.

Report: Thunder give permission to Chris Paul to work out Phoenix trade

Brian Windhorst of ESPN, who helped break the story, went on The Drive with Jody Oehler on Fox Sports 910 Phoenix and had this to say about the trade:

“It’s really the Suns and Chris Paul who have to work it out with each other. The Thunder have given Chris Paul permission to talk to the Suns. It normally would be tampering, but they’ve given him permission…

“I think it’s over 50-50… I think there’s momentum towards it…

“I think Chris Paul is interested in being a Phoenix Sun, and that is not a minor statement.”

That Chris Paul and his agent are talking to Phoenix is a sign this is fairly far along.

On the court this makes a lot of sense

Scorer✓ PG✓ Getting rid of Randle✓ If OKC don't want them, reroute Oubre and Rubio here. Phoenix coughs up the picks, we give up the short-term contracts and Bam! Everyone leaves somewhat happy.

https://nba.nbcsports.com/2020/11/11/rep...
Report: Thunder don’t value Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre in Chris Paul trade

Rubio (two years, $34.8 million remaining) is the impediment. At 30, he doesn’t fit into the Thunder’s rebuild. But maybe they could flip him to another team (Clippers?). Even if not a multiple-team trade now, Oklahoma City just showed a willingness to take an ill-fitting player and help boost his value. It worked with Paul. It could work with Rubio on a smaller scale. Rubio would be less likely to disrupt tanking.

Oubre is entering the final year of his contract. If the Thunder don’t particularly like him, they could definitely flip him for value (Warriors?).

But that might not be enough return for Oklahoma City.

If not the No. 10 pick this year, Phoenix also owns all its future first-round picks. There’s definitely still room for a deal between the Suns and Thunder

.

This makes some sense given Paul's relationship with Rose.

To finally see Rubio in the Garden would be a real treat and allow the draft to concentrate on BPA.

It’s all about the dollars. Small market teams like OKC are hemorrhaging money from not having gate receipts. The Knicks are actually a recession proof franchise

Supposedly OKC wants a package involving Kevin Knox and more to get rid of Paul’s $80 million contract

I think DSJ, Randle, 1-2 Dallas picks should get this done. We can’t do Westbrook he’s too much of a liability on year three and doesn’t make any of the young guys better.

Paul / Frank
Bullock / Vessel / Dotson
RJ / Knox
Melo (likely)
Mitch / Gibson

Not a great team by any means, but will improve all the young kids and hopefully everyone’s trade value around the league.

With that lineup, Melo would be getting a lot of touches. Probably lots of ISO Melo. You really want to go back to that? If it was Paul, and an all star in his prime, maybe.
