Here we go again. It seems like the knicks already gave an offer to OKC that they like, its just needs Rose's final yes. A week after promoting the idea of acquiring undesirable contracts for assets that made a lot of fans happy. They make a U-turn and zero in on CP3 once more. The rumored trade seems to be:

Payton
frank
Knox
3 second round pics

For
CP3

Wow! Its just infuriating! They should give the knicks 2 first round picks for cp3. Knowing the luck of the Knicks, this deal might turn out to be a T-mac or McDyess outcome. Rose, just kill the deal already.

Might not be two firsts. Might be Knox and a second. I think it would still be too much. The Clippers don't have much to give and the Lakers have nothing. I want Rose to play hardball and stick it to OKC like he's done Dolan on a number of occasions.

While I'd be fine with another year of Elfrid Payton as our influential vet PG - I could live with the CP trade if we subbed DSJr for Frank in the deal. Frank plays hard and could be more valuable with some veteran leadership. While DSJr has more physical tools, I think it's less likely he picks up his game in NYC. I really think he would benefit from a change to a smaller market where he could have a fresh start. Portis, Payton and 2nd rounders are fine - just no Frank and no 1st rounders please!

Portis, payton and a 2nd rounder would be good, if they send back a first rounder with CP3, that would be perfect. Depending on who we get im the draft, if a SF (Okoro or Vasselle) we can try trading Randle for a better fitting PF. If we land Toppin, maybe go hard after say a Beal or Hield using Randle in a trade. That can balance our roster for next season. So long as Frank stays a knicks i can live with that.

How do you guys feel about John Wall? I read somewhere that he is now feeling good and is in the best shape of his NBA career. What if he can turn the corner just like Bradley Beal and compile some consecutive injury free season. I saw a 3 team trade among the Wizards, Knicks and Nets.

Essentially we give up knox, Gibson and the 8th pick

What we get back is Wall, Kurucs, Washington's 9th pick this year, and Washington's 2024 1st rounder top 5 protected.

We get an injury prone PG, a young Asset and an extra future 1st.

Is gambling on Wall with this return better than a CP3 trade?

Wall is coming off a achilles injury in which most athletes don't return to form and he ati has 3 years left on a contract which will pay hom north of 40 mil per. On top of that, he cant shoot. This would be typical Knick move maybe in years past. Hopefully, Rose and crew are smarter than that.

stopstandthere @ 11/3/2020 4:13 AM
John Wall has passed his prime. Can we stop signing this kind of player years by years?
ESOMKnicks @ 11/3/2020 5:08 AM
My strong preference would be: NO big contracts for over the hill players, UNLESS the Knicks receive something extra of value to make it worth our while. No Walls, no Pauls. Maybe Westbrook would be okay, but only if we simply use cap space WITHOUT giving up picks, young players, etc.

If Leon Rose bites on the CP offer and gets no extra asset in the deal, I would say our management is as inept as it has ever been. And if Rose actually gives up something valuable for Paul, then I say we need to run him outta town immediately.

Yeah, and I would rather re-sign Marcus Morris than Melo. Younger, more productive, and no unnecessary drama/hoopla to surround him.

nyvector16 @ 11/3/2020 6:44 AM
I have to completely agree.
OKC is loaded with picks.
I would demand at least. 1st rounders maybe even a 2nd rounder on top of that to take 87 million off their books.

The revenue hit from COVID hurts small market teams the most.
There is no revenue sharing of no one is making money from fans in the stands.

If they want a salary dump they have to make it worth our while.
We are doing them the favor here.
CP3 is one slip away from being done at his age, we cannot be stupid here.

GustavBahler @ 11/3/2020 8:21 AM
Very surprised if its true that Paul would want to finish hia career with a cellar dwellar. Unless Rose is promising to build him a superteam. Lakers AND Knicks? Doesnt make sense.

Yea I was very surprised to see NY named. Maybe CP3 is thinking post playing days and more of a Segway for the FO?

Its possible. Could also be another star using the Knicks as leverage.

Maybe it's the start of more things to come, again, his salary has a 1 1/2 left.

Do do the Knicks always have to buy high and sell low? Please Mr. Rose, stop the madness.
MS @ 11/3/2020 12:10 PM
If we give up anything to get Paul, this front office possesses the same incompetence as its predecessors.

I would much rather give Dragic a big one year deal or give up a future pick for a Kyle Lowery type if we are looking for a stabilizer.

Knicks should be focusing their attention on the draft and locking in real hard working role players that can play multiple positions to reasonable deals.
Now is the time to do that while teams have limited cap mobility. Revisit free agency next summer with another lottery pick in hand that can be used in a trade. We can suffer through a shortened season with no fans one more year. Just be patient.

See Mike Conley, Paul doesn’t have two more years at an Allstar level.

I agree. If the Rose administration pays anything worthwhile for CP3 then the clock will once again begin ticking. Unfortunately, they get paid no matter what but man am I sick and tired of these mofos pulling the same old, same old time after time.

Can’t see the Knicks trading anything more valuable than one of the Mavs picks for Paul. OKC is set to save between $40-80 million if they trade with us. Plus if they don’t accept our offer we can simply go get Russell Westbrook

LOL...Revisit FA NEXT yr after another Lottery season..You mean like when Mills had 70 mill and had to over pay for role players after another lottery season.

You will surely pay some 2nd tier or 3rd tier player a boat load of money with the Cap space you think you'll be saving by not acquiring CP.

You got 8 current players on lottery contracts and 7 of them are well below avg NBA players, you want the knicks to focus on one of the weakest drafts in the last 10 yrs, add 3 more below avg players, then do what, fill the other 4 spots with veteran role players

Dude you must like the revolving door we have for coaches, players and presidents, because those are the results after lottery seasons.

Just be patient....... we've only missed the playoffs 7 straight season, in that time span, 3 different presidents, 4 head coaches, and 100 different players...OOOOKAY

Supposedly it’s OKC that made an offer and now Rose is deciding on accepting

Paul is a nice player - he's just old, and old things break down.

Before I take Paul on and his deal, I might prefer giving FVV $80-130M for four years - because chances are he'll be viable and producing at similar levels for those four years, given his age today.

CP is a diminishing asset with a contract that might well crush OKC.

I'm happy to take him, like I think others are, but it's a salary dump and we have to get picks or something else of value. If CP performs and leads us to the playoffs, that's gravy but not expected!
