Knicks · Trading pick 38 into 2021 draft (page 1)

We have 2 firsts
Unless someone really good fell— should we trade our 2 into the 2021 draft for a team who wants the pick? Kind of like a Patriots type move

The nba doesn’t work like that. Teams rarely trade 2nds into first and everyone is aware next years draft is good. There has been significant pushback on trading any of those picks by all teams.

we need talent. And we need it now. We also need bodies. I don't know who is coming back, but there are not a lot of guaranteed contracts on the team.

And if they do something stupid like bring in Chris Paul, you'll need uber cheap guys, and second round picks are those!

They've staffed up draft/personnel evaluation - so they better find some gems.

Knicks have 4 2021 draft picks already

Trade them all to move up or consolidate 5 into two!

Just stay and try to draft BPA. It’s a fairly deep draft at positions we need

I would trade the late first for two second rounders next year, then trade back this year to get a second pick in this year's draft or yet another next year.
That many picks in next year's draft would make it easier to make a splash trade while still holding on tot he assets we have on paper.

We have so many ways to get better at this point..

This year's draft will have diamonds in the late first and early second round due to no Combine and no NCAA tournament.

Next year's draft will be something special, with the first draft to have high schoolers back in the fold (Like getting two draft classes in 1 year)
I would trade a 2022 1st rounder for 2021 1st rd. pick if at all possible... Maybe even 2 2022 second round picks for a 2021 second round pick...

Its not like the other 29 teams know next years draft is different. We are so lucky.

Never underestimate the impatience of NBA management.
There is always some front office looking to do something now.
Some GMs feel the need to do something if they don’t feel they will be around to make choices next year.

There are always opportunities.
We have usually been the ones with the short-sighted approach succumbing to both fan and media pressure, but something is different about these Knicks the last few years.

There is no reason we cannot hope for some strategic play that will help us long term...
