Imagine how good this team would be with him instead of Payton?
No one doubted that the Knicks would have had a better record this season if they signed FVV. But they still would not have been championship caliber, and already capped out with his $20m annual salary on the books. With limited room for improvement.
Not to mention the added thrill of watching him go 1-7 and 2-6 game after game while we wait for this one freak game where he shoots 70% from 3. And then IQ would probably not be getting 20-30 min a game now, would he?
Brought this up on another thread. Most ignore the minus of adding a player. IQ would have had zero opportunity if we added VanVleet. You look at IQ's per 36 and it is at some measures better than VanVleet. Not to mention VanVleet is getting plus 20M. Raptors with Van Fleet, Lowery and Siakam are just okay. Yet we are to believe he would have put our roster over the top. I liked VanVleet but happy with IQ. Do agree that we need a better shooting PG instead of Payton. Although for the price, Payton was not a bad option.
you have FVV, you have no Payton or rivers, So IQ would have still gotten similar minutes.
A players production dictates his minutes

You still probably have Rivers (his contract is dirt cheap), but yeah, Payton was desperation signing. But Fred let it be known that he didn't want to leave. That's why the Knicks stopped their pursuit. Just have to wait for the next opportunity. I'm hopeful IQ locks up the starting spot by the end of the season and Payton can take his spot on the bench.
Warriors putting a beating on the Mavs -- a good NBA evening.

Dray green was incredible— back to his old self. They went small and put green at C. He had 16-17 assists could’ve had 20+ With good D. I don’t see GS going back to wiseman starting C— green wrapped up the line up tonight. Now a formidable team IF Oubre and Wiggins can play well

Oubre dropped 40 tonite...flashing the potential he showed at Phoenix before he got hurt.

With granted a lot of games to be played, the Knicks are currently in a far better playoff position than the Mavs. Knicks right there with 4 teams looking at the last three spots in the East, whereas Dallas is already 3 1/2 back from the West's 8th seed with 5 teams ahead of them.
We've got a new Tank design....

Wonder if they'd be open to trading Wiseman for depth and to offload Oubre (good tonight but usually awful for them)- Mitch, Burke, Frank, Obi. (I've no idea how good or bad Wiseman has looked! But I do wonder if they see him as a future piece or as trail bait to help them regain some depth and flexibility).
The Wiggins and Oubre thing was about getting enough games in were they build a fluid chemistry.
Wiseman is too good a prospect to pass on. His inexperience was glaring. They own the Minny pick which would be there’s I believe unless top three? Thats still a hell of a thing.

Yup. I can't believe Minny didn't protect it more and you know GS is going to somehow end up with the 4th pick
With the Mavs loss last night and the Pelicans winning tonight, Dallas is now second to last in the West with 6 teams ahead of them for the final playoff spot. Granted there isn't all that much differential with many games to be played, but I'm enjoying keeping my eye on it

Minny paid a premium for DRussell who was an allstar and put up decent number when Steph went down. Perhaps they figured they for sure would be better this season with him. Either way the pick is gone and getting KAT back on track has a lot to do with their success.
I think GM’s think what the trade does for them and if they fail or succeed the pick is gone anyway. We can shake our heads in hindsight which is fun.
When Isiah traded for Eddy he was thinking how it made us better. Those picks that became Noah and Aldridge made the contrast bad. Really bad. But does it matter if the pick was high or low?
These guys got millions of dollars on the line, I don’t get it

GSW did their job. Dallas just got lucky at home. But there will be more losses in their future, believe it!

True, Steph really had me believing they were going to steal this. What a player!
