Knicks · can someone clarify how the Payton/Ellington/Portis options work and when they kick in? (11/19 at 3pm) (page 1)

Portis has a team option for $15mm
Ellington/Elf are only guaranteed $1mm of their $8mm

That looks like $30mm in player salary a team could shed if they trade for those 3 Knicks then decline the options correct?

I would think that represents a lot of flexibility for the Knicks to make moves today assuming I have that right

Correct.

I believe they have by Friday to make a decision on those contracts as well as Taj and Bullock.... I believe.

Randle will be in the same position this Summer.

good call... Taj is worth almost $10mm but only $1mm is locked in and $4mm of Randle's $18mm is locked in for 21/22 so he's essentially an expiring contract or pretty close. I dont think he makes it through draft day

Yeah, it's the same situation Gordan Hayward is in. That's why the Celts are trying to extend the deadline.

The Knicks also have decisions to make on Frank and DSJ this Summer. Aren’t they both RFAs?

Its a useful trade chip to a team that needs to shed salary to make a deal. Let’s see if Leons gets incentivized to make a deal or does he pass?

wow... by day's end I think we have a better view of what the team will look like, or at least how the FO hopes they look. Bullock is good. He's a keeper. Elf and Ellington are gonners and Taj didnt play well last year. We'll see if THibs really loves him or now

I have heard Boston is kinda begging teams to take Kemba and/or Gordon Haywood. I would take either. I would love Kemba. Their coaching staff is also development oriented and maybe would be into DSJ and cap relief.

two issues:

1) i worry about Kemba's knees -- which is what they're talking about here in Boston
2) no trades with celtics -- that is ainge's strength more than drafting. if they want to give us a guy and assets to take someone off the books that might be ok

i can't say i disagree with you... i just mean a low ball offer. if they want to give us something or don't want much back i would be open to Kemba, he has shined often at msg

Stay away from Kemba. He’s older, injured and maxed. Hayward is fine on a one year deal happy to have him.

Bullock is going to be big for Thibs, he’s definitely going to start and should make a very nice trade piece for someone mid season.
