By all accounts we were under bidding for Haywood and not doing him any favors.
Its not stupid for his agent to create a market for him and get the best price. He wants to play in Indy, bless his heart! If he wants to be here and can find a number that makes him happy thats fine too. Knicks wanted 2-3 years. He wants 4. Knicks willing to pay him in those years. No need to hate him him or others.

After our experience with Amare and Kp, I am very nervous to commit big money to injury prone players. Frankly I would not even want Clay at this point.
One bad contract can screw your team for years...
I was not a fan of this pursuit as we would be thinking short with next years free agent class having a lot more to offer if you have the cap space...

he was very intriguing at the speculated numbers and term mentioned the other day. if we signed him for the Charlotee amount and that term we would have been mediocre for a long time
i've said it before. NBA cap means that for the most part everything is about value. you want more talent for your dollar. Most FAs -- almost by definition -- are fair market. not expensive, not bargains (Most, not all). SO the place you get value is either with rookies who out perform their contracts (which gets tougher and tougher when you draft 18 or 19 year olds), or max, supermax guys who are so elite that their talent is even higher than their max, supermax cap. That's it. CHasing a lot of FAs will not get you more talent for your cap dollar.
now unfortunately there is no indexing for cost of living, or for taxes, so NY as a general matter gets screwed on that front
they should also have an adjustment for how much you suck. Because as we've seen time and again (and it's just common sense), players would want to get a premium to play for a losing franchise. it sucks to lose, it also cuts into your marketability, and your next xontract. Everythig else being equal (including contract amount) most players will choose the team that's winning,
they also need to reform how to get out of bad contracts. Bad teams have to take riskier bets in FA (see CHarolotte and Hayward, or us with Noah). if that doesn't pan out they'll be that much worse. i don't know why the league has to punish the team for taking the risk. We should be more like the NFL where you can cut players if they're sucking ass. Worst case have some guaranteed money but don't have the cap albatross handicapping an already sucky team further (again see nOah, or Memphis with Chandler Parsons)
coaches, staff, etc don't count on cap, so hopefully the KNicks buy the state of the art on that

The Hornets just signed him to another Batum contract....I don’t think he has the chops to be the primary scorer...not at this stage...and Lamelo is not going to be that either....

I am not sold on Lamelo’s shot....it looks a little like Halliburton’s...if he struggles with this can consistently get into the paint and finish at the rim...jury is still out on that...

Ben Simmons cant shoot either, but he still finds a way to get buckets. Plenty of time to fix his shot. They said the same thing about Lonzo's shot (and worse) he's managed to find a way to get better.
