Im having concerns about how the knicks offseason is unfolding. It started off with a big move, unloading half the team creating a ton of cap space. Then a plan emerged from media about going after Hayward, several hours passed a new detail surfaced, Indiana is the preferred landing spot its seem the knicks are just being used to drive the price up for Hayward. The knicks front office is not budging, they are still hoping to land a big fish. In the meantime one by one other options are being taken off the market.
I mentioned before that i was questioning the front office's ability to close a deal outside the CAA and Jazz circles. It was refreshing to see a front office not overselling their offseason plans but on the downside not giving fans an official statement as to what the front office's general approach is is also frustrating specially when we see one by one free agents are taken off the board and the only move the knicks can come up with so far is a 1 year deal worth 6M for Alec Burks.
I know its much better than hearing a deal the knicks made for Noah, which is still in the books for 2 more years. The pickings are slim we are approaching desperation mode for previous administrations, If you think the knicks are not having a good offseason think again, there is still the Westbrook trade or the Wall trade. Looking at the current players in the roster, last year's roster might still be better, the needle hasn't moved that much. As a knick fan i just want to hear from the front office say that we should not panic, there is a plan and we will not deviate and make a head scratching deal. On the flip side tank mode for 2021 draft might now be an option.

Most teams have a clean cap(Until these contracts kick in anyway). Batum on the Hornets is the best shot to get assets for eating a contract. But Hornets also aren't desperate.

RJ-Obi-Mitch provide enough excitement to get by for a yr. Knicks can let something fall in their lap rather than force it. If RJ-Obi-Mitch look like good players. Guards will want to play with them.

I hope its a case that something falls in their lap and not force something just to make a move and tie the team down financially in the process. There are still players in free agency and new opportunities surface with every new signing the knicks are still in good shape, I just want to know that the front office is still sticking to their plan whether its plan a, b or c.
Rozier should be our main target RN imo. Good fit & fair contract.

Glad we are showing restraint and not blowing our cap on players that will not move the needle. Anyone who is unhappy that we are not spending money, take a look at what's going on in Detroit
I'm hopeful that we are using this year as an evaluation year. More concerned about developing our youths as opposed to competing for the 8th seed. Next years FA class will be better, not to mention, next years draft class is 3x's better than this one. There are 2 franchise changing players in next years draft, for sure, and at least 7 legit allstars. Let's play the long game for a change...

WE have Quickly. Rozier disappointed in CLT. Randle for him was a last gasp by Mills. Might be a short term upgrade but better things ahead.

Securing a lottery pick, developing our young players, saving cap space for 2021 and being available take on contracts with assets attached to them should have always been the plan. There wasn't one free agent or draft pick (including #1) that would have pushed us into the upper echelon of the eastern conference. Based on the way we have been operating this year, I don't see any indication that we would seriously trad for Wall and or Westbrook. Maybe Westbrook if he was given to us without giving up any assets. For the record, I do not want Westbrook.
As far as hearing from the front office, its not a big deal to me. Mills and Perry had a plan, until they didn't. The plan was to clear cap space and collect assets until Mills panicked and was offering first round picks for contracts that would have hurt our cap. Luckily, he was fired for deviating from his promise.

Yeah, spending money just to spend money serves no purpose but it seems that's what some fans want to see. Oh well. I'm hoping I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing -- a vision, a plan, and moves will only be made if they are in line with a genuine rebuild. Not just the big carb rush some clamor for.
I would rather strike out on name free agents and just use the cap to get more assets rather than making a melo type trade where they sell off the youth for someone like wall or Westbrook.
I just want them to focus on player development and evaluate what talents are for keeps snd what players are for assets acquisition.

Still can't believe he's pretending to be meeting "multiple teams" today- no one has the cap space except us (and Atlanta has about $20mil but is after Bogdanovic or Rondo) and the Raptors- such a transparent attempt just to try and get the Raptors to up the pay

We have struck out, so I agree, just embrace the tank, watch the young players develop, the season will pass quickly and be a mess with covid and no fans, and focus on the 2021 draft which isn't too long away.

Quickly can be groomed under Rozier. Rozier and Quickly both have off ball ability and defensive capabilities to guard 1 & 2. Same potentially for Frank if he finally gets his 3 down this yr. Thus allowing for a lot of versatility. Rozier also would provide proven production. Rozier_Barrett_Obi could score 16-20 pts each.
Hornets most likely will be comfortable with the 3 guard lineup since Ball is 6’7 and they saw the success with the Thunder. So odds are to interest them we would need to talk about eating Batums contract. So Randle and Smith for Rozier, Batum, 2021 first rounder top 10 protected or 2022 first round pick, 2022 & 2023 2nd round picks.
Netting a good player to add to the core as well as more future assets to potentially trade or draft while still having cap available for 2021 FA.

I just don't see how any of the free agents we're "striking out" on help us other than in a very short term way that likely hurts us long term in cap flexibility and perhaps even youth development. Hayward, FVV -- these aren't long term "needle movers" at the price. Much prefer the Burks and Davis type moves. I imagine there is still some sort of trade to come bringing in a veteran PG.
BTW I think the idea of tanking is ludicrous. This is a rebuild. With Thibs and progress for some of our young players we will be competitive and in play.
Rozier has not demonstrated a veterans presence when given the reigns in CLT. Granted, it was not a good team.
We are not a good team either.
I’d rather we play the kids. Not saying tank. Got a long way to go before rosters are set.
The more Olidipo speaks the less I want him . There are risks and IM ok with him but low price.
