Also, I think Obi should’ve been the pick... I’m more intrigued by the Amare comp than the Hedo Turkiglu comp

Toppin was the best college player on the best college team with an above the rim NBA game to match his elite athleticism... but yeah, I am sure we are gonna miss passing on the Euro guy with his 9ppg in Europe.

I had Devi higher ranked. But what does that mean? It's just a guess from my personal opinion that his skills will transition best to the NBA. I thought Deni has the "NEW NBA" stretch skill set. However, he lacks in physical play and I do not feel he had a high level of competition. So no guarantee. Felt Devi would go 3 or 4. However, also never thought Toppin would drop to us. love Toppin's physical play. Explosiveness and how he played at the NCAA level. Toppin is the kind of player that immediately puts pressure on a defense. Defenses need to know where he is at all times. Which helps other players get free. Kid is a beast. One can actually say that not only was he the safest pick but that he had the best overall performance last year and may be the best in the draft. He also is a New York kid and wants to be here. Think he will do great. Fingers crossed.

Somestimes drafting is not over thinking it...particularly with this draft...take the best player .....not the best upside....

Thanks for this...this must have been earlier in his career because I completely forgot about him doing this...the last memory I have was KP torching him before KPs ACL....if OBI can mirror this..watch out..

Difficult to label a guy a stretch 4 when he can't shoot...Toppin was the right call at 8.

Hezinja 2.0 is off. Remember, Hezinja was still nailed to the bench when he was drafted. Deni was the finals MVP. Also, Deni clearly has a higher IQ at the same age. Plus, for all his athleticism, I think most scouts agree that Deni is a better defender.

You're probably right. i keep seeing the same highlight from each though -- driving to the hoop and some sort of semi-jump hook pass to the corner as if each were the second coming of Magic Johnson

still glad we passed on Deni. FT% in my opinion is a huge red flag

Toppin is a bit of a plug and play kind of guy - he hits shots from outside, makes quick decisions, he has a knack for getting himself open dunking opportunities. He's the sort of player that could take the world by storm and by surprise. A bit like how Blake Griffin just surprised and overwhelmed opponents with his fresh legs and motor.

So about age, he's really quite a late bloomer - imagine this guy. 6'2" as a junior in high school. 6'6" as an 18/19 year old "super senior" at Mt. Zion. And continuing to grow late to 6'9". Wow. It's a bit like the story of Scottie Pippen, who started college at 6'1" and grew to 6'8". It's like these guys were the gift of an NBA JAM power up.

Blake shot 10 total 3 threes in college(Obi shot 103) and didn't shoot up to 1 a game until he was 27 in the NBA. Not arguing that Obi is the better prospect. But shooting wise Obi displayed more at the same stage in games. In college Blake shot 59% from ft to Toppins 70%.

Like Obi that plays defense is the equivalent of the LJ that played for the knicks. He would have that level of upside and I think his game would be similar. By the time LJ got here he wasn’t so much a monster dunker as a scoring force.

Somestimes drafting is not over thinking it...particularly with this draft...take the best player .....not the best upside....

Gotta disagree with you on one thing. Outside of the range on their J's, Blake was more skilled than Obi in every way. Blake would've been the de factor #1 pick in this last draft if he came out. People focused on the dunks, but Blake was also a good playmaker.

Blake shot 10 total 3 threes in college(Obi shot 103) and didn't shoot up to 1 a game until he was 27 in the NBA. Not arguing that Obi is the better prospect. But shooting wise Obi displayed more at the same stage in games. In college Blake shot 59% from ft to Toppins 70%.

Yep, mentioned that Obi has better range on his J. But that's where it ends. Blake had a year where he averaged 6 assists a game...in the NBA. Blake was a true point forward. We're hoping Obi gets there.

Oh, I read your comment wrong. For some reason I thought u said Blake had the better J. But I also think that this could preserve Obi better. So he doesn't suffer the same fate physically.
