Sure, we can let a starting PG emerge in a short training/pre season and roll with that. Here is what I'm thinking:
Unless Westbrook comes super cheap with favorable picks, he is a pass. Though him and Toppin and Mitch would be some show, like lob city was.
Better options
#1 Trade for Lonzo or Bledsoe, they have a glut of PGs there with Kira in the mix, one should be available and maybe at a discounted price. I'm fine with either.
#2 Isaiah Thomas, word is he looks back to form. He would be a cheap contract (maybe league min) since no one else is biting and on a 1 year deal what's the harm? Throw him in the mix and see who wants the position the most.
Either options makes this team a notch better IMO. Your thoughts?

Westbrook would be nice if we get him and picks to absorb his deal. Do not think he is worth giving up considerable assets.
Lonzo or Bledsoe don't change our win total much. IMO
Rather roll with Rivers. Always liked him and thought he just needed to be more of a focal point on offense. Feel that is why he came here.

I think it's the opposite. The less responsibility River has on offense, the better he performs. He's a nice stop gap, but I expect to see him traded before he reaches year 2. Lonzo and Bledsoe at least give you competent PG play at the NBA level. I just doubt the NOP want a second tour of duty with Randle. Imagine Randle waiving Zion off at the elbow only to spinovers during a crunch time.
Trade for Lonzo?
What is his value? Nola wants to trade him?
What do you give for him?
Isiah Thomas. This guy is always “back”. Always moving his mouth and the same flows out.
good ideas but ain't happening for Randle
they just got Adams at big money and they have Zion so where does Randle fit???

why on earth would you give up picks and your best player for nothing worth talking about. So you basically would be tanking and giving up you future picks to get rid of a contract...
Lets be real... would you have giving up melo and 1st round picks just to get him off the roster
MILLs said no one in the NBA would take Noahs contact without #1 picks attached, and he's not even 1/10th of the player westbooks is.
agree w/ Hofstra... none of the options out there really move the needle enough to shake things up. Elf is cheap and expendable and never turns the ball over and plays some defense and can get in the paint. The other guys need to figure it and get better plain and simple.
Westbrook could quickly get toxic and leave us with an untradable player. Bledsoe is ok but more a scorer and less a floor general. Lonzo has terrible numbers and honestly fails the eye test. He looks like Evan Turner part II.
Rubio would have worked. CP3 would have worked. These guys dont grow on trees and are not easy to acquire, and are costly when you try

In what universe is Westbrook Houston's best player hahahah I kinda agree though Houston barely has assets already. I don't think they're desperate enough...yet. I think the Knicks need to stay away from Westbrook. The negatives (salary, poor fit etc.) outweigh the positives
Just hit me that Durant, Paul George and Harden all have wanted to separate from Westbrook over teaming up with him. Trading for him expecting to pair him with someone may not be get to the conclusion we are looking for. But at the same time I do feel his attitude is kind of what the team needs.
I'm fine not pursuing Westbrook. What I want is a lot of what Payton brings, but with a respectable outside shot. No question Payton can generate offense for Barrett, Mitch, and Obi. Moving Randle would eliminate that on-court love affair which is ideal. Having Burks/Rivers/Quickley/Bullock at the SG improves spacing, as does Obi at the 4. Maybe the player development here can help Payton become a 35% 3pt shooter on open looks. That's what we need. Otherwise i'm fine pursuing Ball or Bledsoe until we find the real solution. PG is such a problem here always. We badly need shooting from that position. For years the Knicks front offices have been addicted to PGs that can't shoot, I will never understand that.
I think we can use a PG upgrade. At the same time, I think Payton is serviceable, especially in a lineup that features shooters in 2 other positions.
So... I can imagine:
Mitch
Obi
RJ
[insert 1 of Quickley/Iggy/Knox/Burks/Bullock)
Payton
I really hope we see some progression in RJ and he can nudge his shooting incrementally (let's say realistic improvements like: FT% up from 61% to 65% and 3pt% from 32% to 33+%) it will transform his effectiveness. We've seen him get hot before - we just want a lift in his baseline.
To be fair... Rondo made a career of slashing and mid-range shots. So did Tony Parker. Rondo couldn't shoot from 3 until around age 28/29! Tony Parker NEVER really added the 3pt shot to his game - averaged 1.3 3pt attempts over his career.
Both were championship PGs. But they had future HoF players around them with extraordinary skill sets, not run of the mill guys.
Payton has been victim of playing on teams with low talent. Throw him on the championship Spurs, Lakers, or Celtics (in place of Rondo or Parker) and wow... he'd look super.
On a team lacking superstar, is just another weak link.

It's not a matter of what Houston would do. I said I would not give up considerable assets for him. They are obviously looking for a team that is desperate and dumb enough to give them a kings ransom. You want that to be the Knicks? In terms of what Houston fiscal strategy is, who knows? I would want to be the team that takes advantage of them if they become desperate. Not the other way around.
As for Melo. (Do not see why that is relevant but I'll play) If I was trying to unload salary and he made $120 for the next three year, yes absolutely. If I was looking to clear cap space.
As for Noah, So saying no one would accept Noah "Without" a 1st proves what point exactly?
Here is my question for you. Westbrook had Melo, Adams, George in OKC and he did what exactly?
He had Harden, Gordon in Houston and they did what exactly? But you want him here with a stripped Knick roster/cap space because you think that is the move that gets us over the top? Have you asked yourself WHY Houston is giving up on him? Since he is such a guarantee to bring on a chip?
Start Frank and then play DSJr. Let’s see what we got. If it fails, we get a higher draft pick. If Frank or DSJr step up, then we finally solved the pg position.
Just say no to Westbrook

This is what I want to see.
This guy worth a look by Knicks ????? LAMAR PETERS .........Playing 31 minutes per game in 32 games Lamar Peters of Westchester Knicks finished near the top of the G League in assists-per-game (7.3 assists per game ).....From Wikipedia >>>>>>> On February 26, 2020, Peters set a new Westchester record with 19 assists to go with 19 points in a 129-115 win over the Greensboro Swarm.During the shortened 2019-20 season, Peters averaged 17.8 points, 7.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 42% from the field and 40% from three point range.
Isn't it fishy the Payton and rivers signing hasn't been formally announced? Maybe something is going on behind the scenes
Would like to see Barrett run the point with Quickly as a co-point/shooting guard.

They're working on a sign and trade for Rivers and deciding which exemption to use for Payton. Some speculation that they're trying to work their way in to a three way deal with the Hornets and Boston for Hayward.
Batum is a decent player, can do a little bit of everything, but grossly overpaid for what he contributes. Charlotte has a penchant for his type.
I said if we didn’t do anything to upgrade the PG position, it was borderline GM mismanagement.
And what exactly did we do? Retain Payton, add Rivers, draft a combo guard.
Our biggest need was for someone to run the team offense, and we have yet to address that in a meaningful way.
Langston Galloway would have counted as an upgrade, in my book at least.
Were we rumored to be in the hunt for FVV?
No, for some reason, we wanted a broken down PF/SF age thirty, upwards of $30M per year for 2 years (Hayward.)
Someone correct me, but am I to expect this team to finish any better than last years? I mean, 20-30 wins is about where this team will finish, if that, considering they may not get 82 games to try.
Maybe they play harder with Thibodeau.
Obi is nice, but really, how much is he going to move the needle over what we got from Portis?
Does anyone here not smoking crack think DSjr or Frank are suddenly going to pop and turn into serviceable PGs?
Biggest need by far was PG, and this FO came up with a giant pile of p00.
