If Payne can fix Randles Spinovers is he really as bad as advertised?
This kid is a problem for many teams inside and has a good shot. He was thrust into our 1st option which is not his talent level. He is 3rd.
Maybe fans act like his removal improves the team. What about fixing what’s wrong and lower the Bar some?
My thinking is He starts until Obi gets it going......

I agree that Randle is solid if he brings the spinovers down and improves his three point shot. He was in over his head as the 1st option but you make him the 2nd or 3rd option and tell him to focus on rebounding, defense, and moving the ball on offense, then he becomes a solid player. I also agree that Toppin should not start until he proves he can play defense. Thibbs should tell him his minutes are dependent on his defensive efforts.
Randle reminds me of Al Harrington. Only had one gear, which got him frequently into trouble. Turnovers. When Randle plays under control, he's an effective scorer. Doesnt know when to stop the 1 on 3 drives to the rim.
Him being able to knock down the 3 at an above average rate would fix a lot of the issues. That combined with lowering his usage would do wonders.

It's not just the spinovers, it's his general attitude. At first I thought he was missing passes because he simply missed the reads. But then it became clear he was just freezing certain guys out. He was brought in to be a team leader and he's pulling crap like he's still in AAU. 20 ppg or 12 ppg, that's not acceptable and that mindset can't be good for the locker room. Yeah, Mook was a gunner and he took bad shots. But he also provided leadership and set an example for the younger players with his intensity. I don't see Randle doing any of that.

This right here. Randle is a very gifted passer for a big man. Watch his college and Lakers clips. He was very good at hitting the open man when necessary which is why I wasn't completely against the idea of him as the point forward but when he came here he just seemed completely different. My only hope for him is that he's used this offseason to reflect on his play and how it can get better or he eventually settles with a 6th man role but if not once Obi hits the ground running he should be as good as gone. As frustrating as they are, I don't mind those bad spin moves as long as he's always trying to make the best play possible for the team and hopefully with new leadership we might able to see some change( huge bonus if he can hit 3s at 35%).
My issue with him is not his ball handling nor his 3 point shooting. My issue is his complete lack of spatial awareness and court vision. He disregards his teammates and his opponents positioning. If his handling got better but the other things I mention don’t improve then he could be Allen Iverson and he’d be the same player.
It actually amazes me.
Randle had a rep as low BBIQ when he was with the lakers. he demonstrated that again last year.
he had one good year with AD and Jrue and Pels but i think that was because he was the number 2 or 3 option
We demonstrated even lower BBIQ signing him -- frankly at any price let alone his actual -- just thankful it was only 2 years
Why is Scot Perry still on the payroll?

YES network replayed an early Knicks/Nets contest from last season, Fizdale coaching... Randle was just brutal... hands of stone... and playing dumber than a bag of nails.

Bottom line with Randle is he can’t shoot. He’s not a disaster like DSJ. He can score in the low post, grab rebounds and is an ok defender when he tries.
He can stay in the rotation but coming off the bench

I’m basing this off his time past the Knicks. He’s very capable of making goods reads IMO.

I disagree that he can't shoot. I think he has good form - the problem he had was he was pressured to perform above his capability. - like Nalod says - he's not a #1 NBA option. More like a #3.
Look at the season split last year. March he shot .462% from 3. Granted - it was 6 games - but we had started to look better, and he also did not take a lot of 3s - like 2 per game vs. his prior time when he was taking 5.
I hope Thibs has an offense that takes this into account, and doesn't expect Randle to shoot 5+ from deep.
