Knicks · Toppin and Barrett two very good building blocks (page 3)

I see a bit of Shawn Marion also. Like a Marion/Stoudemire hybrid.

I’m telling ya’ll watch some old Boris Diaw highlights and then watch Obi. Skill wise Diaw could score a variety of ways (post, drive, shoot the 3) and Diaw was great at passing. He wasn’t a point forward because he didn’t initiate offense but passing wise he was up there. They are around the same size too
The main difference is Obi is in shape. Diaw wasn’t dunking above the rim on anyone. I think Obi is going to be a great compliment to RJ and if the Knicks come away next year with Cade, Green, or Suggs he’ll fit get in a trio as well.

Young Boris Diaw highlights when he was super athletic:
He eventually got a little soft, but he really refined his finesse skills. It was a different time when it paid to be bigger and be ready to bang in the post.

sure.. its young, unproven and lacks a clear superstar blue chip type of guy. I am 100% fine with all of that and where we are. Toppin and Quickley might be really good NBA players but its not likely they are next year. RJ and Mitch are starters that need to take big steps forward but I think most expect to see some of that continue. Nobody knows what to expect from Knox/Frank/DS/Iggy but I do expect with some good coaching and the developmental staff we have in place for some of these guys to show they belong.
The rest of the guys are cast offs but good role players. Rivers, Noel and Bullock are all guys that have deadline values to teams looking to bolster depth down the stretch. If we are able to get another late first rounder for one of them thats a huge win. Thats how you get lucky and find a VanVleet or Jimmy Butler type late in the draft, but having extra picks
This isn't the worst team in the nba not even close. Obi isn't the typical rookie he's 22 and already has an nba body and polished offensive game. I expect him to contribute immediately, hopefully as a starter, and possibly even compete for ROY.
If Frank and Mitch get enough run this can be a good defensive team. They finished 17-27 last season once they got rid of the stiff Fizdale and they improved the roster.

I read the Kmart comparisons on this thread and I just don't see it. Kmart was smaller than Obi and a much better defender. He was even a good defender during that 2012 season when he had been gone from the nba for years and we literally signed him off the street.
I don't remember Kmart ever being an outside shooter. Obi can shoot. 40% from 3.
I'll take an offensive scoring threat stretch 4.

If Obi becomes Amare 2.0 it would be a disappointment because he would need to regress in 3 areas and not improve in 2.
A more accurate comparison is Rasheed Wallace - minus the attitude.

For me both Amare and Kenyon had some raw strength and burst that are elite when they were healthy. I don't think Obi has that strength but we shall see.
Time will tell... all I can say is that strength isn’t as important as it was. I’d say ‘fast twitch’ is more important. If he can be a stretch four that can also be a bully on the perimeter... to me, that’s the modern 4 dream. That said I’m just a big fan of his

Yep that is exactly what Obi could be for us. Obi’s passing as a big is what really makes him special but he’ll have a good overall offense. The only real difference is Diaw was good at defense when he was younger

Yes, and how about a hyper athletic Kevin Love?
