I think it was game 5 of the 1994 finals when they cut away to the OJ chase. I would swear I've heard Bill Simmons say that there was a huge brawl between the Knicks and Rockets during the time TV cut away from the game to the chase and that you can't find footage of it because David Stern won't allow it.
Has anyone else ever heard this? Or maybe I misheard what BS said (or maybe it was BS?) I can't find anything online (not even a story) about it.

all I know is I was PISSED I had to work that night. I was waiting tables at TGIF and giving the absolute worst service of my illustrious waiting career as I was watching the TVs all night. Than that shit went down and go OJ instead of the NBA finals. I will always hate OJ for that. Phuck that guy
Man, I remember exactly where I was during the OJ run and was so pissed off I couldnt watch Knicks
We had our second child about two months earlier. It was Work, baby, my oldest was just 3, JOrdan was gone and we were on our way!
I was yelling at the tv to shoot oj and put the damn game back on.
Other stations were carrying OJ, so why NBC? It was awful!
If that happened today people would be rioting at 30 rock....NY finals game in more than 20 years and you switch to a slow moving car chase???..
Short of the emergency system telling you to take cover because there are nukes on the way people are not having it....

I was at that game... section 348 though. I don’t recall it being anything like a heat/Knicks altercation though
As for OJ, they aired the chase on the Jumbotron... everyone was like ‘wtf is happening’... and it was like a slow moving, then really fast moving, whisper to over the crowd... it was wild. A few minutes of everyone not watching the game who was there to discuss the chase. First time I ever went to a game and talked to everyone I saw about something other than a play on par with The Duck or the 4 point play or equivalent

I disagree... everyone would be on their cellphones watching. Again, being at that game, I can tell you the crowd was more interested in the chase than the game.. when the chase stopped it took a little for everyone to refocus. I don’t really think you can expect the ‘normal’ response to one of the most culturally significant police chases in history
