The Knicks declined to sign Ntilikina and DSJ to long term extensions and both will become restricted free agents after the season.
No surprise, really. It's just difficult to gauge what these guys are worth, particularly Ntilikina. In recent years, high end defensive guards have been getting upwards of $10m/year. I thought he was going to follow the trajectory of Dejounte Murray of San Antonio, who earned a 4yr/$64 contract, but it seems like every Knicks coach he's played for doesn't feel good about handing him the PG reigns.
DSJ. Well... he's young. Maybe he'll get it together in the future... but probably not with the Knicks.
I think the Knicks will let the market dictate how much Frank is worth and if it makes sense, then match and if it doesn't he will walk. There's still a chance he comes back. Although, as much as a lot of fans love Frank in the blue n orange, I'm not so sure how much Frank loves it here. I wouldn't be surprised if Frank and his team has soured on their NY experience and want a fresh start elsewhere...

Dennis is going to be out of the league, so that made complete sense. Trade him for some second rounders to a team with some veterans.
Frank I would have like to know what his agent was asking for or if they just wanted a fresh start. His value is unbelievably low. I would have looked at a multi year offer starting in the 6-7MM range. Contracts, Clarkson, Kennard, Grant are obscene right now and I think we will have the opportunity to trade our veterans. So Frank makes sense for a guard off the bench now at the right price.
As possibly the biggest Frank stan I can't say I am not truly disappointed. But going into this year I said I would trust Thibs's decision on this. Unlike Fiz and the other knucklehead coaches I know when Thibs says eat what you kill he means it. With Thibs there is no agenda so I respect the decision. It is still disappointing though.

I agree - DSjr is probably headed for China, or he might well have to get a regular job!
Frank - I do think he is borderline out of the league at the moment himself. His groin just isn't up to NBA standards!

I’m perfectly fine with that. Plus I think they want to keep flexibility too. We shall see how Frank does under Thibs and how the market for him shapes up

We all see him as a defensive wildcard, he sees himself as a lead PG, which he is not.. when you hear that, it seems like he never bought into anything other than himself. I really, really want him to work here but whatever he doesn't move the needle

With 3 presidents/4 coaches its no wonder he is out for himself. Nobody got his back because he was not installed into a system or defined what he needed to do. Not saying he is not without any fault. Its just That I won’t demonize him as “selfish”. He plays defense which is not a selfish activity.
If he fits going forward, great. If not, then I hope he does well.

because he is who he is, an end of the bench role player. His first pass was to a guy completely covered who ends up getting called for traveling, that's not setting someone up for an easy bucket.
He got an opportunity to come in the game with a spark (down 6 ) and solidify his rotation spot. He just makes so easy for the coach to pull him, which they always do..
when Quickly got that same opportunity in the preseason, Coach couldn't pull him

Wow, good find. Did not know that. Bon voyage Frank! Explains some of the leaks about Frank not wanting to be anything but a PG.
Frank's problem is that his ideal role is in an offense that uses multiple playmakers or one that has a Point Forward like Dallas (Donic), Lakers (James), 76ers (Simmons) or Point Center like Denver (Jokic). He doesn't have the tools to be a traditional PG and he's not enough of a scorer to be a traditional SG. But if the playmaking is mostly being handled by someone else and the team has enough scorers and space, he can be the guy that defends the other team's best guard, switches, and disrupts their P&R. He's a Patrick Beverley, Marcus Smart, Andre Roberson type player. You just want enough play making and occasional scoring to justify keeping him on the court for his defense. The Knicks keep trying to make him something he is not and then when he fails yank him. It's idiotic. He doesn't fit on a team with no space running a more traditional offense. They should just trade him for his own sake or he should ask for a trade. They've been jerking him around long enough bringing in washed up players like Jack, scrubs like Mudiay and DSjr etc... to play in front of him at PG.
As Thibs proceeds to start Elf tomorrow and Sunday and he plays horribly I wonder why?
If Frank or DSJ play and even resemble being effective don’t they become valuable assets in a trade?

I think this is more of an Isaiah thing. Isiah has hated Frank from the start but Phil for a year and a half overruled him.
