Knicks · Markelle Fultz Injury/DSJ Opportunity? (page 2)
Our coaching staff has proven their worth already. Let him spend time with Payne Thibs Woodson and Bryant and see if they can get him into form.

Classic trade of two players who may benefit from a change of scenery?Mo Bamba is coming back from not being able to play because of COVID. He makes $7.5M next year.
If you were Orlando what would you give up for DSJr who was shit last year and didn't look much better this year and is already hurt?
You think the Knicks want to add $7.5M to their cap next year on a player who would be a backup?
I don't mean to sound so flippant but Brock Aller would spit out his coffee and then laugh in your face if you said something like that to him
You just throw stuff on the wall and hope it sticks? Cap space should be treated like gold and not spent on contracts like Bobby Ports $15M, Wayne $10M, etc.
Mo Bamba has not at all proven himself in his first 2 years. He still needs to prove THIS YEAR that he is healthy enough to even play at an NBA level.
If he was completely healthy then maybe you think about offering him a Noel type deal around $5M cause that's the good market value of a contract for him.
If you don't really follow the Magic, you are just spit balling with your eyes closed about trading for Mo

It’s a little shocking MO hasn’t become a good stretch 5 he has a great shot and can protect the paint ... wonder if it boils down to effort and BBall IQ . He’s a tantalizing prospect, I would love to get him for DSJR but big men like Mo and his potential are hard to come by ...
Sometimes it’s a head scratcher as to why players don’t develop.
martin wrote:I admitted that I don't follow the Magic so yeah, I am spit balling. However, I'm not spit balling about the Knicks and I can't imagine Bamba being any worse than DSJ. Or Noel for that matter based on what I've seen thus far. Regarding Portis or Ellington, neither of those contracts crippled us so I'm not sure how Bamba at $7.5 for one year after this season would have that much impact on the cap. And which free agents in 2021 will be so vital to our future that Bamba at $7.5M in his last year would jeopardize?Welpee wrote:martin wrote:With all of the expiring contracts we have I don't see it as an issue. Plus DSJ's trade value is not going to go up unless we have injuries and he's forced to play and he balls out. So my counter would be what's the use in keeping him if there's a willing trade partner? Also remember, I believe this is the last year of his deal so unlikely his trade value goes up just sitting. Would hate to just release him or let him walk via free agency and get nothing in return.Welpee wrote:Not sure if this was discussed elsewhere, but does the unfortunate ACL injury to Fultz open up an opportunity where they may have interest in trading for DSJ? I don't know what their pick situation looks like, but I would be on board for a deal to roll the dice on Mo Bamba and a pick for DSJ. Maybe even just Bamba for DSJ straight up. Isn't Bamba from NY?Sad to hear about Fultz. He was putting it together. As for Smith, think there is no reason to sell low. What exactly is the rush? Not like he is taking a youngsters minutes. Nor is he taking minutes from everyone's favorite, Frank. Really think that Knicks should talk him into going to G League. Maybe present it as a rehab type of situation. If anyone needs to regain his form, it's Dennis. Feel Smith's team would see this as the best way to increase his value and possibly show teams he is worth considering for extended PG minutes.
Also, I thought the Mavs wanted to send Smith to the G-league his last year there and he had a problem with it. Things may be different now, but I have a hard time believing he would agree to it at this point in his career.
IMO it is a rush if your trading him for scraps or a cap hit that has yet to prove anything. Hopefully he can accept that Gleague may be best place to get his game back.

That plan fell apart once it became clear that Quickley is better than either one of them at running the point. So now, barring injuries, I doubt DSJr gets any run and Frank will probably get spot minutes here and there once he is healthy. The Knicks should offer DSJr to anyone for a second round pick but I doubt we can trade him. He has essentially no value and I doubt even the magic are interested. We might be able to trade for the draft rights to some European stash player but even that is essentially nothing. Most likely, we just let DSJr walk at the end of the year like we did Trier, who we also should have traded. And don't look now, but Quickley has taken a few steps back in recent games. All of these scenarios are fluid, that's why we can't overreact to one or two good games.

Luckily there are years of games to judge DSjr and Frank and yet still only 5 games into Quickley's career and everyone can see he is a better PG and will get most all of the PG minutes before them

Feel like me and you could probably suit up for a game and outplay those guys too. I am good for like a 30 second stint TOPS so you will have to do the heavy lifting
And honestly, 30 seconds is optimistic

I know. Fultz is young, next season we could have a real scoring threat off the bench. Its the players pushing 30 with these injuries, who give me pause.

Oh..ok....I see what you mean. I think the OP is suggesting we trade Dennis to the Magic to fill a void while Fultz is out. Highly doubt the Magic has any interest in a Dennis for Fultz trade. In fact, they may not have any interest in Dennis at all. This is a good opportunity for the Magic to take a long look at Cole Anthony. They also have Michael Carter Williams...

Oops lol, got it. Id be happy with a veteran PG with a couple of years left in the tank. Lots of cap space and picks for next season. Believe making the playoffs without giving away the store is the only thing that will change minds around the league.

My take the convo is Dennis for Bamba. Trade disappointments and fills a need for Orlando. Or the perception of one.
