Not sure if this was discussed elsewhere, but does the unfortunate ACL injury to Fultz open up an opportunity where they may have interest in trading for DSJ? I don't know what their pick situation looks like, but I would be on board for a deal to roll the dice on Mo Bamba and a pick for DSJ. Maybe even just Bamba for DSJ straight up. Isn't Bamba from NY?
At this point I think we could just give him to them. Maybe we could get a future #2, but don't we have a couple dozen of those already?

Mo Bamba is coming back from not being able to play because of COVID. He makes $7.5M next year.
If you were Orlando what would you give up for DSJr who was shit last year and didn't look much better this year and is already hurt?
I would do that trade. We need another center.
Not much of a market for DSJ right now. He has really fallen off....Don't see him getting much if any playing time this year unless there is an injury. I do wonder if he's still hurt, or if the Knicks are trying to protect whatever value they think he has left. I wouldn't be surprised if we flipped DSJ for ex Wildcat Malik Monk. Our problem for thier's.
As far as the Magic is concerned, the Knicks should do their due-diligence but I'm not sure the Magic need him. They have Cole Anthony and Michael Carter Williams to play point. Fournier can run the point for a few mins a night if need be...

OK, I don't follow the Magic. Thought they just weren't playing Bamba, didn't know it was COVID related. But it's not like Bamba has been lighting it up the two years he's been there. So I think the premise remains, two disappointing lottery picks. Bamba has started only one game his whole career.

Sad to hear about Fultz. He was putting it together. As for Smith, think there is no reason to sell low. What exactly is the rush? Not like he is taking a youngsters minutes. Nor is he taking minutes from everyone's favorite, Frank. Really think that Knicks should talk him into going to G League. Maybe present it as a rehab type of situation. If anyone needs to regain his form, it's Dennis. Feel Smith's team would see this as the best way to increase his value and possibly show teams he is worth considering for extended PG minutes.

Not necessarily a rush, but this could be an opportunity that may not be available closer to the trade deadline. Plus DSJ's trade value is not going to go up unless we have injuries and he's forced to play and he balls out. So my counter would be what's the use in keeping him if there's a willing trade partner? Also remember, I believe this is the last year of his deal so unlikely his trade value goes up just sitting. Would hate to just release him or let him walk via free agency and get nothing in return.
Also, I thought the Mavs wanted to send Smith to the G-league his last year there and he had a problem with it. Things may be different now, but I have a hard time believing he would agree to it at this point in his career.

With all of the expiring contracts we have I don't see it as an issue. And we're paying Noel $5M this year to be a backup. So I don't see how his salary is a problem and $7.5M for a backup (with upside) is not outrageous. And we'll need a backup center, right? We'll have to pay somebody to serve in that role.

Probably right, but when I read the options they were looking at to replace Fultz were people like Isaiah Thomas, Shabazz Napier, Jeremy Lin, Mudiay, Yogi Ferrell, Brandon Knight, etc., would a healthy DSJ be more appealing than those guys?

Orlando has Cole and MCW. DSJ doesn't really move the needle for them. They need a proven vet, not a broken project.

Probably right. Honestly I think we'll end up just releasing DSJ at some point. Doubt we can get anything useful in a trade other than we trade our disappointing lottery pick for somebody else's (which is why I thought of Bamba).
bring in bamba if DSJ is all it takes
Our coaching staff has proven their worth already. Let him spend time with Payne Thibs Woodson and Bryant and see if they can get him into form.
