Knicks · Knicks young players showed growth tonight (page 1)

They got beat by a better team because they fit around their superstar better but the young Knicks took a step forward

Barrett got his game back in the second half and showed a dominance that he should eventually be able to sustain. It was what we want him to do. Leave the 3pt line alone and attack the basket and get fouled. When they sag off than pull up for that midrange jumper. He can make an absolute living off that style of play as long as he’s shooting 75% + from the line.

Quickley found his shot and his rhythm offensively. Consistency will eventually come but he’s a starting PG in this league if he takes and makes the right shots.

Knox is quietly looking like a player. He’s not going to be a star scorer but as a catch and shoot player there’s a role for him in this league

Mitch was Mitch. He’s providing consistency with what he does best even if he never expands his game beyond that.

Randle did his thing and can be the man if he gets the right production and floor spacing from the young guys.

It continues to come down to shooting. Either Burks comes back and provides exactly what this team is missing or we go out and find a shooter on the market that can start and open up things for the rest. Buddy Hield maybe ? Haliburton and Fox are the backcourt of the future there. Maybe that’s not the move but we need that player who provides what he does. We need to see Mitch Randle Barrett Burks and quickley as a lineup before making any judgment though. I want to see if teams play zone against that lineup and if Randle and Barrett can thrive with that spacing. There should be plenty of offense in that lineup with 4 guys capable of creating shots and scoring 15+ each.

We are 5-7. Forget about being 5-3 and then going on a 4 game losing streak. At the beginning of the year 5-7 would have been a pleasant surprised to most.

I think that’s exactly it with Barrett. Just drive and look for your teammates and take it to the hoop and perfect the midrange J’ as much as you can. He’ll be fine if that’s the case. It would behoove him to work on his explosiveness but he can still work from here with what he has.

Barrett’s goal should be to become what DeRozan is on offense these days, plus with more defensive impact. Live in the midrange and attack the basket, get to the free throw line a ton, and make plays for others. Barrett clearly isn’t a catch and shoot player, as he seems too mechanical/ focuses on the mechanics too much. His shot isn’t bad but you can tell he’s just not a natural with that. But what he does do well is that pull-up jumper. There’s no thought to it, no mechanics issues, just reaction and execution.

RJ is definitely being coached-up and is studying film. Like that he is not settling for 3s which is the shot the defense wants him to take, and is taking the mid range shots that he wants. RJs game should be 15 feet and in. Would love to see him cut and slash to basket when he doesn't have the ball. Hope he can capitalize on his 2nd half performance.

As for Quick, I like the floater, but not from 18 feet away. Wish he would just take a mid range jumper from that deep....Overall nice bounce back game for him. Hopefully he continues to cut into Elfs minutes.

Instead of creating a knew thread, ill just reply to existing threads. Yes the young guns are building confidence while winning. This is the best development method you can have, while creating a winning culture of defensive minded players.

Nah, every random, passing thought or notion deserves its own thread!
