Knicks · Use Frank/Smith/Bradzekis cap space and a two to improve for this year? (page 2)
Gay might be a nice role playing vet on a winning or developing team, but that is not what we need.
Unless you are upgrading Payton in a meaningful way, no trade helps us this year.
I think Conley could be a Derrick Harper type floor general for us for a couple years also until IQ or whoever we draft is ready. Utah is having a fantastic year tho so no reason they are sellers.
Bledsoe is a scoring PG, makes the same as our available cap space and is a Kentucky alumn so there's that. He's a modest upgrade but def an upgrade
Its such a weird year who knows what teams want to do. Like Wash might just sit the year out and see if Westbrook/Beal can sell seats next year, or maybe they are available. Who knows?

Why does Utah, one of the best teams in the league right now, want to trade its starting PG who is actually playing well for them?
They are only about $2M into luxury tax and this is the one year it is going to be pro-rated by a large margin.
Just don't see Utah downgrading by a large margin like this

Cade would solve a lot of our problems instantly. Mobley would quiet 1248s hankering for a more versatile big man. Suggs might fill Thibs nostalgic void for a hyper-athletic scoring guard. The 5-3 start was fools gold and now we're seeing how far away this team is. Coach has the team prepared and working hard. Now we the FO needs to fill in the pieces with young, sustainable talent.

I think you're right - but Utah is one of those teams like San Antonio - they can swap parts out, and still win effectively.
Maybe they think Frank N is still a viable talent in the right environment- would you bet against us trading Frank to Utah and him being everything we wished for in 3 years?
I have to imagine the pandemic hurts some of the small market teams. Their owners are rich because they keep their money. At some point, not all of these guys have raked it in big like Bezos (maybe they have), and the cost of being at the cap without revenue from tickets, etc. does impact their bottom line.

Something like Knicks get Conley
Utah gets Frank/DS/Burks saves $20mm on the books and maybe there is draft capitol like Detroit's 2nd rounder.
I think Utah would consider it. It it was a normal season maybe you try to stay healthy and make a run, but nobody is watching. Here you save $20mm and get a young player or two to evaluate. Who cares about first or second round if there are no fans? I wonder what their asking price would be if willing at all. I just think with no fans in the seats owners will be more money driven this year than in others.
Might also put Curry in play if you want give up the youth to get him (I dont)
