Still easily the worst 3pt shooting team in the league. And we aren’t a terrible team. Imagine if we had something in the range of league average (or even slightly below average ) 3pt shooting. We basically rely on those random big shooting nights from Randle or Barrett in order to not be a complete disaster from the outside. It’s quickley and that’s about it. Sprinkle in some Burks, rivers and Bullock but the consistency is never there. Any moves this season like for Redick or whoever would be putting lipstick on a pig. Redick can add shooting but not really improve the team at this rate in his career. The real moves will be in the offseason.
This summer I say replace Bullock with Otto Porter Jr or Danny Green and that way you’re getting a better off ball player and shooter than Bullock without giving anything back on the defensive end. Also draft Kispert with a lottery pick who is the best shooter to come into the draft in years and replace either rivers or Burks in the bench rotation with him. And of course promote Quickley if it’s not done sooner. Keep Payton as the backup or not, it doesn’t matter as long as Quickley is playing 30-32 mpg. Playmaking on this team isn’t a huge concern of mine because with Randle, Barrett and Quickley there’s plenty of organic playmaking improvements that will be made thru player development. But the shooting will have to be addressed with not good but great outside shooters. We instantly go from this team that plays hard and finds ways to win some games and morph into an actual dangerous team capable of beating anyone. Adding a couple great shooters without losing the defensive identity should be the goal.

Either of them make sense but Kispert is a real sniper who will make a lot of money in the league in that joe Harris or Duncan Robinson role.

Gary Trent is good. But I have re-run the stats for this season to identify the best shooters, filtering for i) above average 3pt %, ii) above average eFG %, iii) above average PPG, and iv) more than 2 3point shots made per game. Surprisingly Malik Monk came up #1 based on 3pt percentage and #3 based on eFG percentage. And he scores 10 points per game. I must admit, I was wrong when I said I would not trade for him right now, the guy is really turning it around this season. Maybe it helps him having a passer like LaMelo on the team. Other top aces are Michael Porter Jr., Joe Harris and Wayne Ellington. We could have added any one of those guys onto our team in the last 3 years without missing out on anyone from our current core.
Trent ranks outside of top 10 on that list, his 3pt percentage is good, but his overall eFG percentage is brought down by poor shooting from close range, and his FT percentage is nothing special.

We are not the worst by percentage according to ESPN stats - Knicks are 25th. We're at 35%, the Pacers who are the 15th best by percentage are at 36.3%. Our percentage isn't bad but I think that's deceiving. I think we take a low percentage because outside of Randolph our high-use players like Barret, Mitch and Payton are terrible three-point shooters. Our bench takes a lot of threes does not shoot a terrible percentage
River 38%, Burk 44%, quickly 37%, Knox 39% (when he's playing) but it doesn't make up for the fact that our starters can't shoot.

Tweak your stat crunching a bit to take into account not only the stats but how the player is playing both this season and previous.
Monk looks great but it's because he has a super small sample size compared to someone who has played the entire season. He doesn't usually play cause he sucks
Wayne is having 1 good year on a bad team.
Filter out guys who we know aren't attainable? Harris, Porter Jr shouldn't even make anyone's list

Portland fans on forums have said that Trent's good defense in the playoffs was an aberration and that he usually meh. I think most of them still want to keep him.

He is stepping up for the injured CJ McCollum. I’m no expert but he played a lot off the bench with that other guy from Syracuse on the wing whose help defense is not notable.
I’m looking at a guy that on the rise that we can over pay and fill that salary potential.
My take is Let our scouts and Johnny Bryant make the call. He did not want to entertain an extension instead is taking the gamble is value is increasing.

I've watched a few Portland highlights, and there were a few plays that stuck out where Trent did look more than lost defensively... Who knows, maybe our FO scours the internet for Nalod's humble opinions and lets Thibs turn Trent into the next Draymond...

Maybe Portland decides to trade CJ and stagger salaries and age. McCollum is 30. Not old, but Dame is also same age. Portland made Conf finals and has been in that Houston Rockets stage that could not get by Warriors or Lakers. At some point they are proactive. Maybe Trent can do much of what CJ does for less money and value is returned that could pan out down the road.
