Knicks · Proposed NYK/CHA Trade (page 1)

This is a little bit of a re-tread, but

Malik Monk
Terry Rozier

For

Frank Ntlikina
Kevin Knox
2 second rd picks
(trade exception)

So, LaMelo looks like the real deal and CHA has Devonte Graham to cover the backup. FN gives them a defensive look off the bench that could use a fresh start. CHA clears a bit of cap space over the next several years. They take on Knox who is still young and maybe needs a change of scenery. A couple 2nds make it a little sweeter.

Knicks cap space this summer isn’t looking so appetizing. Not a lot of guys out there. Jrue Holiday is one of the few guys I’d rather have at PG, but let’s be honest, if Jrue preferred NY, Milwaukee would likely do a S&T to get Rozier. So, the fact that we could still sign him outright kind of forces them to take a concession. If Holiday wasn’t interested, well, now you have Rozier, a tough, defensive minded guard that can hit a 3 at a good clip.

We might have missed the boat on signing trading for Monk. His off court nonsense is a problem, but our Kentucky ratio remains a push in the Wildcat/Wildcat swap. His resurgence might be more an indicator of playing off of Ball (get it?) but he would likely feel at home with KP. He is the kind of player the coaching staff would be looking for. If in the SL (with Barrett at SF) he would be another scorer that can spread the floor. I think these two will complement what Barrett does well. In the 2nd unit, I’d like to see IQ and Monk instead of Rivers. Elf loses a ton of playing time in this setup, which is unfortunate but the Knicks have too many point guards.

Look for a follow up move to solidify the SF position (sorry Bullock) with a strong 3&D SF. Either in the draft or free agency.

Rozier
Barrett
Bullock
Randle
Robinson

IQ/Monk/Burks/Toppin/Noel
Payton/Rivers/Smith/Iggy/Gibson

Rozier would be great, but i think they are more likely to let go of Graham, as the Ball/Rozier backcourt makes more sense given Rozier's defense. So i don't think Charlotte would do that deal, and they are in win-now mode with the Hayward signing. I also felt Randle for Rozier made so much sense for each team, but obviously i wouldn't do that now. I would love to have Rozier though. He can score, defend, and is a great outside shooter.

Joe Harris for Bullock & Payton (throw in some # 2's if needed as well). Nets need defense and can afford to let Harris fly. Knicks need sharpshooters from 3.

Move IQ to start at PG. Back-up with Rivers & Frank

First Unit: IQ, RJ, Harris, Randle, Mitch
Second Unit: Rivers, Frank, Burks, Obi, Noel

Malik Monk has come back to earth again and scored 6 points in his last game

Not for the salary of Harris.

Monk is garbage big pass

At least Knox has shown some flashes on offense this year and Frank is a good defender in that rare event when he’s allowed to actually play

Monk is shooting 50% from 3 this year on 4 attempts per game. He is a bit of a reclamation project given some of his off court shenanigans, but this is exactly the kind of Kentucky guys we want Payne working with.

I’m not keen on dumping Knox and in a vacuum I’d like to see young Knox develop. The other half of the deal is swapping up to Frazier in the starting lineup. Kind of swapping expirings in FN and Monk and using Knox as the potential upside that allows Charlotte to move Frazier to us. Hoping this would be more of a cap space move for CHA and gave LaMelo a bit more burn.

Not keen on the idea of bringing in Rozier to run point. I could live with Rozier as the starting 2 guard and s platoon of Payton/IQ as the 1. I also worry about the chemistry between "point" Randle and Rozier. Scary Terry has that alpha dog mentality, even though his skills aren't quite there.

Small sample size aberration. Dude’s career is one of awful shooting

Monk has played in just 10 games this season. He shot 28% from 3 last year. That’s DSJ bad

A bit more unlikely with the Rose trade anyway

I like this trade. Helps both teams. Harris would be perfect for Randle. Bullock and Payton would be ideal for the Nets. They need defense and these 2 can really help them. They would get so many open looks that Bullock would be a weapon like PJ Tucker.

TPercy @ 2/8/2021 1:56 PM
No on Joe Harris. Burks provides similar value at a quarter of the cost.
