I Think the knicks will have enough cap this off season to absorb at least 70% of his salary.

What is this deal really getting you? Beal is regarded as better than Julius but is older, cost more.

I agree 100%, doesn't seem like Beal is helping his team win, we'd be trading away our future (picks) and cap space for a little change or mediocre present.

This is a problem with alot of NY fans, they want star names and tend to be impatient to a proper rebuild, we are on the right course...

Just to be clear (since my initial post apparently wasn't) - I don't want to trade for Beal and never did. I would consider a trade for Lavine, Booker or most any younger/cheaper SG that stretches the floor. I posed the question because I've read a few articles and heard rumors that the Knicks were still seriously considering going after Beal and/or Oladipo. That scares me as a fan because I also hear people saying we would have to send out 3-4 1st round picks and maybe Randle and RJ to get a deal done. That's nutz! I wanted to hear what people hear thought the value was and/or what would be the limit for a possible trade. I was expecting to read responses like "I think it would take 2 1st round picks and either RJ or Randle, but I hope we don't do that."

Let's say the Knicks could get Beal for RJ, Mitch and 2 first rounders. Just for the sake of argument, ok add in some 2nd rounders and Knox. Even if you want to make it 3 first rounders...fine. That's a lot right? It is. But you'd still have guys like Randle, Quickley and Obi here. Obi could be trade bait for something else. ANd here's the bigger thing--the Knicks would have cap room to add another star or even 2.

The trade for Beal is a tough call, but the bigger question is what could the Knicks do AFTER they trade for Beal. If they had other moves lined up, sort of like what the Lakers did with Lebron and AD, and I have no doubts that Rose and Co. are well organized and thinking 2 steps ahead, trading a lot of resources for Beal might still be the smart play.

"Melo trade all over again" --not quite. When the Knicks dealt for Melo, they liquified every draft pick they had. They also traded every young player worth anything that they had. And they didn't have that much cap room going forward. They had to amnesty the only PG on their team, Billups, just to land the good center in Chandler. So that was that-- the front line dream trifecta of MElo, Stat and Chandler and basically pray for rain. And once Stat's knees and body were done, we were done.

Knicks have more room to grow than they did back in 2010-2011. They have more chips. They need to use them wisely, but trading for Beal doesn't necessarily leave the coffers empty even if they do deal 2-3 picks and 2 young players.
