Rivers is the son of NBA royalty, belongs in a TV sitcom, and is one of the most articulate spokespeople a team could hope to have.
Knox is a young, relatively raw project.
The trick with all three is money matches. Generally speaking, NY is far under the cap and their likely trade partners will be looking for relief. The problem of course is that they'll want to unload an albatross for our spare part(s). So that gets tricky.

Layman is capable of being a highly energized bench asset at the three and Culver was known as a shooter in college who might regain that talent yet again. I've never thought this. The Knicks are winning and have a good rotation going. Frank has been hurt and is obviously not 100%. What is the expectation for Thibs to play Frank? For the 11 person rotation that no coach every really does? Or to take away minutes from guys who are performing?
What's the circumstance that you think Frank *should* be playing to warrant his Thib's doghouse label?

Yeah, this is similar to what I said earlier, one disappointing lottery pick for another in the hopes that a change of scenery helps both Knox and Culver.

The Knicks did pick up his option so either they want to work with him 1 more year or I was correct that they wish to package his contract for a trade.
The most likely scenario is Knox and/or Frank gets moved for somebody else's disappointing, under performing recent lottery pick. The deal I want to see happen (and I have no idea if it's realistic) is trying to get Mo Bamba from Orlando. But I don't see anybody giving up a currently productive player for a package of the three players referenced in this thread.

I don’t really agree with this. I don’t think he has had bona fide NBA level coaching. He may make “rookie” mistakes, but his synergy with Obi seems real. I see no reason to cut bait and run on him. He seems to be putting the work in at the gym. Honest question is if he can get his confidence back? I see those 4 mins at the end of the game last night when he received and alley oop and delivered one to Obi and I think he has some real upside to be unlocked.

If we were making a playoff push and the Hawks wrote the season off, I could see the Knicks absorbing his contract and releasing Iggy. Or moving Rivers for him to shore up the SF. Snell could easily line up at SF. Might be a better fit than Burks who get moved to a contender for a pick. Snell costs 12m this year.

I think it's the opposite in Orlando. I think based on playing time and things I'm reading they may be willing to move on from versus build around Bamba.

I think orlando loves frank plus there over luxury tax if take mo bamba and terrance ross for frank and knox i would be cool with it. Either frank for mo bama and call it day.
I could see This wanting to do Frank and Knox for Al Horford at the deadline- hopefully the front office wouldn't do that.
Horford is playing better this year, is a good passer, can shoot from 3 used to be a good defender (no idea if he still is), nice team guy- if he was a year or two younger he would actually be a great fit at C. However age and the $27mil he's owed next season (and the season after that, though I think that only $14mil guaranteed in the last year)

I'm not suggesting Frank *should* be playing. And the Knicks are still under .500, winning more but losing as well and the losing was because Payton, Rivers, Knox, and Bullock and even Barrett have been inconsistent (under-performing).
Seems to me finding a few minutes during some of these games makes sense. And its plenty ok to not be in the rotation but the out-of-sight/out-of-mind treatment hardly gives me (as a fan) confidence that he's not in a doghouse (why? for the crime of getting hurt?).

Exactly.
Layman can be a rock solid bench contributor and Culver is one of those 3pt specialists who has been under-performing but who, with the right coaching, could become a Dentist.
