I believe ntlikina Knox and rivers all have a place and future in the league. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s with us as we have more picks and cash to replace them with better players.
I’m looking for a supporting cast member for our second unit.
Needs (not in order)
1. Backup center who has a skill set other than rim running and put backs.
2. A defensive bruiser power forward/ tough guy
3. Defensive/scoring wing
Can we turn Knox ntlikina and rivers into 1 long term functional player?
Your ideas?
My idea is to have every tool in the tool box for the team.
When the team is completed through the draft and cash we can go to war with these guys or trade everyone like the nets did for 2/3 star players.
Mo Bamba ? Probably could use a change could be a nice back up who has the ability to stretch the floor or call Denver about bol...
But this could be a big opportunity for obi and I wanna see him get on a role .

I agree. I’m looking for obi to get more minutes also and get into a groove.
While not a popular statement I want Knox to find his............

I don't mean to be so flippant but....
1. Top defensive team in league and you want to what? Replace the backup C who you know Thibs LOVES because of what he bring for...? A worse defensive big? A backup C who would play next to Obi that is going to take shots away from him or not compliment him as well as Noel?
2. For what purpose? To take minutes away from Obi?
3. You mean like Frank? And if you think there is a defensive wing out there that is also a scoring wing.... then he is already on a playoff team or will be traded there and you won't get him for shit for players like Knox or Frank
Can we do some thought process before just throwing stuff against a wall? Can the suggestions actually help the team out and not also take AWAY from what they got?

Like trade Knox rivers 2 number ones and iq or RJ for Beal?
)
All I was suggesting is utilize Knox ntlikina and rivers for one competent ( long term role player player.
You criticize my gm abilities but I assure you this will happen in the next 30 days!
Also... iq was my pick last year..
I know exactly what our cap situation and roster consists of.
Your points are valid though. But like I said 2 of the 3 will be moved within 30 days.

So if you mentioned IQ in a post of 5 guys you would target in the 2nd round he becomes "your pick?"
Look at the current Knicks roster/rotation. They are playing Payton/RJ/Bullock/Randle/Mitch and Rose/IQ/Burks/Noel/Obi off the bench and now Taj possibly with Mitch out a while.
Who's minutes are you replacing and how? What are you spending? You are no messing with RJ/Mitch/Randle/Rose/IQ/Obi because they are either "the future" or Thib's trusted guys. That leaves you Payton, Bullock, Burks or Noel to upgrade. The guys you have to offer are not desirable to other teams. Nobody cares about Frank, Knox or Iggy. They are NBA fodder right now in terms of value. Rivers will be useful for a few teams but nobody is spending big (see DSjr type package). So are you giving up a draft pick for a marginal upgrade? If there's a chance for a core player maybe... but who?

You’re right. I know thibs only plays 10. Whoever the Knicks acquire will have to win a job in practice. They most likely won’t even be in the rotation this year.
Frank rivers or Knox will be moved for a 12th man on the roster and a future second round pick. I don’t have a player in mind to acquire yet, thus the reason for my post which was a question.
In 30 days or so I guarantee two will be moved.
Like you said they are fodder. So two teams will exchange their fodder and the Knicks will use anotber trash second round pick for a big future trade.
The typical "lets package up all the players we don't want and get somebody else's productive player."

For a defensive wing player who can shoot

Yea you’re absolutely correct they will keep Frank Knox and rivers a month from now. Geniuses you guys are!
Also there is not one substitute role player in the league we have interest in. I understand perfectly now!
EwingsGlass wrote:Tony Snell
Snell is a guy to keep an eye on. Upcoming CAA free agent that played for thibs and can shoot and defend.
Flip three for one?
Bigger question is are we done with Knox?

You realize the knicks can buy out players and/or just release them, right? Way more likely than anybody being interested in packaging them up for a player who can help us.
But I'm open minded, give me a potential trade scenario. If me an example of a team that would be interested in giving up a productive player who can help us for those three guys. I'm all ears.

Can you really see the Knicks trading for him? Maybe we pick him up if he's released.

Thankyou. That’s all my topic was about. Players who could be useful.

Imo
Knox survives because of his potential and ky connection
I think thibbs doesn’t currently believe in him but coaches may want 1 more offseason to try to
Open up more of his game than being corner kev. On a positive note he will stay employed in this league with just that 1 specialty knocking down wide open corner 3s
The Knicks did pick up his option so either they want to work with him 1 more year or I was correct that they wish to package his contract for a trade.
I wish Knox well on another team but he's had several seasons to show something and he barely has shown anything IMO. I get he's still young but maybe the lesson is to not draft young players that have questionable motors. He's been an NBA player, drafted high and paid well for the past 3 seasons and he's not even been a consistent role player on a team that has been pretty bad until just recently. Realize it's a stark contrast but Moses Malone was drafted out of high school and played hard from his rookie year. I give guys a pass if they don't shoot well or struggle to find their games - but he just doesn't play we any hunger - it doesn't seem to be there. I don't care if he finds his talent on another team - time to move on from him.

The most likely scenario is Knox and/or Frank gets moved for somebody else's disappointing, under performing recent lottery pick. The deal I want to see happen (and I have no idea if it's realistic) is trying to get Mo Bamba from Orlando. But I don't see anybody giving up a currently productive player for a package of the three players referenced in this thread.
Well, politically, Ntilikina is not from KY, not a client of Rose's, and in Thibs' doghouse.
Rivers is the son of NBA royalty, belongs in a TV sitcom, and is one of the most articulate spokespeople a team could hope to have.
Knox is a young, relatively raw project.
The trick with all three is money matches. Generally speaking, NY is far under the cap and their likely trade partners will be looking for relief. The problem of course is that they'll want to unload an albatross for our spare part(s). So that gets tricky.
I have proposed Rivers and Knox for Culver and Layman. This simply flattening out the roster a bit more. Layman is capable of being a highly energized bench asset at the three and Culver was known as a shooter in college who might regain that talent yet again. AND Culver isn't yet another PG candidate instead adding depth at the swing positions. Obviously not the sexiest trade but a doable one all things considered.
Frankie, the obvious sitting duck is also the best paid of the trio and as such harder to trade given his inactivity. The forum wept rivers of crocodile tears when DSJ was sitting on the bench yet Thibs' staff has done its damnedest to bury Frankie alive and not a whimper.
