While the Knicks have the assets and option to go after Beal. An alternate route they can take is to look to upgrade the starters while adding to the pipeline creating pathway from development to rotation.
This coming FA lacks in star power to form a championship contender by pairing multiple stars together. But it does have some upgrades available for the Knicks roster. Netting FAs like Conley & Fournier would be adding quality upgrades though true star power would be lacking. But the key part here is the possible pipeline of young talent. That won't have the pressure of needing to be a savior. Knicks will have 3 picks within the top 33 of the draft most likely. Very possible a lottery pick within those picks. To go with IQ & Obi from last draft(Frank & Knox will probably be on their way out).
Hypothetically if the Knicks were to take this route and sign these players the visual would look something like
Conley/Rose/Quickley/First round pick 2021 draft- Floor general pipeline player to develop behind Conley & Rose while sitting for 2 seasons.
Fournier/Quickley - IQ can continue to develop, expand his game & strength. Be ready to take off as a stud by the last yr of his rookie contract
Barrett/Veteran Stop Gap/First round pick 2021 draft - Pipeline player that could slide between the 3-4, use 2 seasons to develop his skills unless he shows to be ready for rotation.
Randle/Toppin - Toppin can continue to develop and expand his game and strength. Be ready to take off as a stud by the last yr of his rookie contract
Mitch/Veteran Stop Gap/2nd round pick 2021 draft - Pipeline big who can develop behind Mitch & place holder veteran looking to work his way in the rotation after 2 yrs of seasoning.
Lacks the the flash and sizzle of a Beal type of move. But would be a steady way to operate.

These are pretty solid moves. My dream offseason is Holiday and Leonard. With Serge Ibaka signing for the MLE, with both deals structured as S&T to preserve some of our cap holds. I won’t get crazy into the math, but it is plausible to pull something off. Once this fairy tale expires, I’d be ok adding Fournier and Conley to add some effective players that play on both ends of the court (I note that the term “two way player” is no longer available as it has been hijacked by the two-way contract (they should have called that a dual contract).
To be honest I have Fournier on the THJ tier. I'd just assume squeeze out another year from Burks than overpay for Evan. I wouldn't be upset with signing conley to s short te deal tho.

I don't know about more steady. He's pretty streaky and they're about the same height. They're about the same. Evan might be better ball handler, but Timmy is a better finisher. I'm not trying to crap on Evan. Heck, I'll even say Evan is a little bit better. My point is that he's not a major upgrade over Burks, but the Knicks would have to pay 3 to 4 times as much for him. There's no need to rush into a two-guard signing or trade if it's for Fournier.
I am completely against trading any #1's at this time -- this coming draft it is entirely possible to have two lottery picks. I just don't see any available vets being the player that takes us upwards, whereas that player could very well be in the draft. At least wait until the dust settles, there is no need to be in a rush.

Fournier and Hardaway jr are both scorers. Fournier just statistically better at it than Hardaway jr. Jr has a couples seasons shooting 38-40% from the field. Fournier other than his soph season is more in the 44-46% range.
But this is just a hypothetical scenario. It doesn't have to be Fournier. Him and Conley are just names I picked. The idea more so was about having quality starters while building up the pipeline as an alternate route to targeting a superstar like Beal if the price is to high.
I like Burks, but would rather him be a bench player with a better player ahead of him in the starting lineup. He could take that stop gap bench position behind Barrett.

The one advantage of signing a player like Fournier - and it would have to be at a valued contract - would be flipping him for Beal later on.
