Knicks · Victor Oladipo (page 1)

With the rockets parting ways with Cousins to feature the young players more and with the eventual trade of PJ tucker, I see the rockets trading oladipo for anything as they don't see a future with him.

If only Payton rescinds his no trade clause. I'd do this trade

Knox, Payton and our worst second round pick for oladipo.

We get a trial run of him, move RJ to the 3, get a legit secondary scorer, move bullock to the bench and srart either rose or quickley.

Thoughts?

Jimbo5 @ 2/24/2021 4:04 AM
I like Oladipo as a potential 2nd or 3rd scoring option that is also good on defense. The front office should do its homework to guage the rest of the league's interest in Oladipo. He is a free agent by the end of the season and if Oladipo wants to be a knick he can just sign here, with no costs involved. But if they want a dry run trial period, im not really inclined to shelling out assets for someone the knicks can get at no cost as a free agent. If he really wants to be here, again he can just sign. Save the assets for another move to improve the team if they want to go that route. Personally, i want the FO to be patient and build through the draft and free agency.

Oladipo and Barrett can't play together. They both can't shoot. Spacing will be worse than it is now

Yes, pairing the two of them would unfortunately result in RJ's dropping out of the starting five and a drop in his productivity in a way that he would very quickly become another “miss” in the draft.

You get to change the roatation though:
1. You can now start quickley and he spaces the flopr
2. Barrett moves as the 3rd option giving him better efficiency
3. You move bullock to the bench and gives size to the 2nd unit as burks moves to the 2 position.

Yeah I think moving for Oladipo would require Quickley starting but isn’t the right move for this team this year. I’d rather trade for Lonzo Ball who I believe would be a nice compliment to Randle and Barrett. It would be a move that makes us slightly better now with an eye on the future. If you trade for oladipo you really almost have to resign him or what’s the point ? And I’m not willing to commit to him with Beal and LaVine possibly being free agents in 2022.

Dipo in his last 5 games 20% from 3, 32 FG%.

All 3 of those things does exactly the opposite of helping the team.

You start with the core competency of Defense First and then from there go to development of young players (IQ, Barrett).

You don’t want Oladipo. He’s done. He’s nothing more than a catch shoot guy now and he’s not even good at that
Vmart @ 2/25/2021 11:52 AM
I like the idea of adding Oladipo or Beal. It makes sense for the Knicks at this point in time. We should consider trading young players. Obi, Knox and Quickly is where I would start a couple of first round picks.

That is the plan. We have a win now coach and a GM that wants to establish himself ASAP. Have one All-Star ready to build around him in his peak.

So your plan is to "start" with a trade offer of Knox, IQ, Obi and 2 First Rounders for a guy like Oladipo who is playing well below his career stats, coming off a major injury and a FA next year? I think you may need to take some time off from this board to watch other NBA games, players and read up on stats and contract situations.

That offer I would make for Beal. I would take a pick off for Oladipo. And the picks would be protected.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say that deal was for Beal and honestly you have to make that trade. Something like that is going to happen. When it does I just hope its a good trade for us. I think Leon has unique view into the league and I am really hoping it helps us. He doesnt have a big body of work yet, but Leon's moves so far show a few things. He was willing to spend on coaching, not just on Thibs but his supporting coaches. He was really focused on value both with FA and the draft. He moved all around to gain any additional draft capital that might have been available and made small signing that allowed him max flexibility moving forward. He declined Elfrid and brought him back for half the money.

The "win-now" thing remains funny. What does that mean again?

The win now is in reference to the coach who isn’t as willing as some think to develop players. They are creating value to trade for proven veterans.
