Knicks · Myles Powell (page 1)

Anyone watch any GLeague games. I’ve only been looking at the box scores but the kid seems to be tearing it up and on fire from 3. Might need to find him a roster spot...
xblvdels3 @ 2/27/2021 9:18 AM
I want to see him against Nba vets. Iggy and Harper are tearing it up also 😅

He does look like a bucket though.

PassTheBall @ 2/27/2021 1:45 PM
I think he is just a g-league star. We should enjoy him for that before he goes to Europe.

😂 yea

He will get his shot at pre season/summer camp next year. Better light it up to have a chance at the nba.

Jared Harper is also tearing it up. Powell is shooting 45% from 3. Harper 42%. My only thought is whether they should tie up Myles on a Two Way. Not clear to me what Pinson brings besides good vibes from the bench. Powell is workout buddies with Toppin and Knox. Might really gel with those guys.

No real rush here, but those shooting numbers look legit. Powell reminds me of FVV.

SupremeCommander @ 2/28/2021 9:37 AM

FVV is this guy’s best case IMO but I have no idea how likely that is. Powell can play but he is going to need to learn to be an extremely cerebral player to overcome the fact he just doesn’t look like an NBA player in terms of physique and physical stature
EwingsGlass @ 2/28/2021 10:04 AM
Wingspan is more important than height. His wingspan is 6’7. Body type may be a continuing issue, from what I’ve read, he’s turned himself into a gym rat.

I’m not making the case for him to be the Knicks starting PG this year. I’m making the case for him to take Pinson’s or Harper’s (5’10), 6’5 wingspan, two way contract.

Yeah, he isn’t FVV today. But he reminds me of him with some of his handles.

xblvdels3 @ 3/1/2021 8:04 AM
Well 15 man roster.

We will know who the first 10 are. (Only guys who will be playing if no injuries)

This leaves 5 spots and two 2-way contracts for drafted players and guys like iggy Harper pinson Knox or Powell to fight for

Agreed. I think Iggy is a goner. Pinson is like the new lance thomas for this front office/coaching staff as he's well-liked and a lockerroom guy. Those 2-way spots are handy. Powell deserves one at some point.

Welp...so much for this...

Remember that N'Dour saga on here when he looked good in a preseason game and the Mavs swooped in and gave hime a2 year deal and then he stunk? Seems like teams love swooping and swiping our marginal players!

Only argument was that he should have gotten a 2 way contract. Kid has talent but a worrisome body type. Kind of player that can take off or fail miserably.

Other thought in my head is that with the NBA investing in GLeague and adding Ignite, they probably need to create rules that reward teams like the Knicks for investing in their GLeague affiliate’s infrastructure. To be positively training these kids and to have them picked off by the Rockets and Bucks is difficult.

Perhaps if there were a timeline on this (like the baseball rule 5 draft) that before the trade deadline teams can only pick players from their affiliate but after the trade deadline it’s open season... make it more of a minor league development league. Make it worthwhile for teams to develop players.

I wonder if he will turn out to be really worse than Rivers. I have an incoherent affinity for Seton Hall products, going back to Tchaka Shipp.

Andrew Gaze!

Glad the Knicks got him back!

Exactly. Add Wooten to that list too.

Wow, that's a definite blast from the past! Can't remember the last time I've heard his name brought up.

In the first half of the season we struggle for outside shooting, and Burks, Rose, payton, Frank all miss games because of Covid protocol or injuries, and Mr Powell still didn't get a call up one time. So you really have to ask yourself, how good can he be?

You forgot DSJ and Harper were also both in front of him as well. He signed a GLeague contract. All I’ve ever advocated for was a 2 way contract.

Kid is another gym rat that works out with Obi and Knox. He has talent, just the body type that makes people worry a little. But with the right group around him, I think he could really thrive. I mean FVV might be his uppermost tier, but he has the talent and the work ethic. I am not saying immediately, but he is the kind of guy you want hanging with this group.

martin @ 4/24/2021 7:06 PM
OK then. Was this just a way to pay him more? I'm confused
