I like Derozan and think he would be a good fit, but those two guys you mentioned are my first choice. Your two main PGs would be veterans Conley/Rose, everyone else would be young guys and you have at least 2 rookies coming on the roster as well.

So you're concerned about Derozan's age, and the alternative you suggest. Is to pass on a quality PG, who Magic says has the highest bball IQ at that position, in the league. Great D.So we can return to a very old Knicks tradition. Putting all our hopes in an aging PG. Both of them being in their mid 30s. Older than Derozan.

Derozan is a "depreciating asset" if he plays poorly. Your assigning his future trade value before a single game has been played. He plays well for 2 seasons (not a stretch), we can move Derozan as an expiring contract, if necessary.

I would much rather take our chances with Lonzo going forward, then yet another aging PG. Its once again kicking the can down the road. Tired of that strategy myself.

Not disagreeing with you but where is Derozan's D by the numbers? I really doubt Magic would leverage his rep to say something like that. If he wasnt maybe the greatest PG ever, I might agree with you. He's made bad calls before as an exec. But as a HOF PG, I take Magic at his word.

This article details DeRozan's troubles on defense by the numbers. He just has bad IQ on that end. As for Lonzo, well just have to wait and see. At the very least, we can both agree he's not there yet. Maybe he does get there eventually, but a quality PG wouldn't hurt as he develops if the Knicks sign him.
