Knicks · Burks/Bullock/Frank with Lonzo or Elfrid/Rose with Beal/Lavine/Oladipo (page 1)

awe1028 @ 3/6/2021 7:59 PM
As well as the Knicks are playing, in order to take the next step, they will need to upgrade the PG and the wing. There have been rumors involving the knicks trading for Beal lavine or Oladipo to improve the wing position and Lonzo to improve the point. The ideal situation is for them to upgrade both positions. However given that these players will be very expensive to acquire, the more realistic expectation is that they are only able to upgrade one. So the question: Would the Knicks be better improving the wing with Beal/Lavine/Oladipo with Elfid/Rose or going the Lonzo with Burks/Bullock/Frank combo? BTW the Knicks seem dead set against moving IQ into the starting line up so I did not include him as an option in the hypothetical
Knixkik @ 3/6/2021 8:20 PM
I like Lonzo because it’s almost like adding a PG and a wing in 1 player. And he defends. He fits as a traditional PG in a lineup where Randle and Barrett are doing much of the playmaking but he can also slide over to the 2 next to Rose or Quickley. Given his 3pt shooting the last couple of seasons I really like his fit.

Reading some of the articles regarding Oladipo, if they are true it seems like he wants to sign with the Heat making him just a 2-3 month rental. If that is the case, i would only trade for him with either Burks or Bullock and a non rotational player and a second round pick. If his ties with Perry is strong enough to make him more than a rental then a bigger cost is justified.

I like Ball but il only trade him if the package includes Payton and Burks or Bullock is no longer in the team as part of the package or with a separate deal to open up playing time for Frank.

If it's possible to trade for both if the FO view Oladipo as a rental requiring a smaller package would give this front office an idea what it will be like for the knicks to have more talent.

A line up like this can make this team competitive and might reach the eastern conference finals if everything breaks their way

Starters:
Mitch, Randle, RJ, Oladipo, Lonzo

Bench:
Noel, obi, Frank, IQ, Rose

Im guessing - knox, Payton and a 1st rounder for Ball.

This for me is an ideal senario, but an unlikely one that will happen. But im still hoping it will. Hehe 😜

BigDaddyG @ 3/6/2021 9:02 PM
Lonzo would be a good fit next in nearly all of our lineups, especially if he keeps up those percentages from three. Dipo has been on a steady decline for three years. I would not sign simply on the hope that he can regain his luster. Dipo, as he is now, fits awkwardly with Randle and RJ.
awe1028 @ 3/6/2021 11:46 PM
Yeah If the Knicks can only upgrade one position I would choose Lonzo. The Knicks need to finally address the PG position and Lonzo fits perfectly. Not only is he a legitimate point but he plays defense a definite requirement for Thibs and he Is shooting 39% from three so he brings shooting. Plus at 23 yo he fits the Knicks' timeline

Additionally with the way Frank is playing, if it is sustainable he may very well be a candidate to replace Burks/Bullock and be an effective two for this team. Thibs certainly seems to be trusting him more. Imagine this defense with both Frank and Lonzo in the backcourt.

If the Knicks decide to go with upgrading the SG instead, of the three choices, I would prefer Lavine. Beal is perfect but he is will be too expensive. Oladipo wont be as expensive but he does not bring the necessary 3PT shooting. Lavine is the sweet spot. He is expensive to acquire but not as much as Beal and unlike Oladipo he brings 3pt shooting - currently shooting 44% from deep.

Signing Lonzo this summer and LaVine next summer would be the dream moves for this team

C Robinson PF Randle SF Barrett SG LaVine PG Ball 6th Quickley.

I really believe that lineup has major potential to make some deep playoff runs.

Frank shooting as well as he is and playing his usual superb defense somewhat lessens our need for a 3and D wing. A playmaker would add another 10-15 points by just assists and would also bring out the talent of our team more by helping guys get in rhythm. We need an outlet passer as we have none on the team right now. ( Hello KOQ, welcome back!) A passing PG would also fill that void

Why do we want Oladipo? Just like Drummond he is a counting stat "star" that can't shoot and makes us a worse team. If we get them for free fine but no assets should be used to acquire either player

Nalod @ 3/7/2021 10:42 AM
I don’t mind if we low ball for Dipo or Drummond if our FO has a strong conviction not what these players are at the moment, but what they can be here. Nothing is a certainty.
TPercy @ 3/7/2021 10:49 AM
We really need to dispel with the idea of Oladipo. I know I was horribly wrong about Rose trade but this is just setting us up to fail. He’s not a floor spacer, he sucks, and is injury prone.

what if the price is right and the contract in the low 20’s? Lower the bar and he conforms to make his coach happy in an winning environment? Not as a Max contract savior!
Cuz my gut felling is thats what Riley will sell him on if he wants to play in Miami. Jimmy butler gets the alpha dog money in Miami. Rockets might see a Hero/Pick (Miami don’t have many) as good as it gets. Dipo monetary value might not be that great.
Fans always looking for saviors. Reality is a fit that enhances the chemistry compliments others.

I think this is the route the team will most likely pursue over the next 2 free agent periods. Sign guys that don't cost you extravagant trade assets, and only do so at the right time (whenever that is)

. Agreed. I don’t think the Knicks are going to trade numerous assets like they have in the past 20 years. They are going to keep building through the draft and add through FA. They have done a phenomenal job creating cap space and gaining draft assets.

This is the ideal Scenario for me as well. Keep our depth and draft picks to continue building from the ground up.

I think the FO might prioritize securing the Starting Point guard spot by the trade deadline. Between Rozier and Ball. I think Ball will fit better and he will be able to enhance and unlock other key aspects of the team.

The front office has to decide if Ball is their guy to get him now or gamble in free agency. We know lavar wants him as a knick but he is restricted, do the knicks overpay him in free agency or should they surrender assets to get him via trade?

For the next year, Lavine is unrestricted and i think he deserves a max contract.

Thats true, but I believe its also about already having enough players who can run the point. On another team, I believe it would be more about wether or not Lonzo is good enough to run the point going forward. Pels are already loaded in that dept.

Only price Oladipo would be worthwhile to me is a 2 yr deal in the low teens. Oladipo simply dosent fit here

This should be the dream!

Add a strong Draft this year, keep the cost effective players out of Noel, Burks. Bullock, and Frank.....

Cap out in 2022 (Mitch and Randle get paid) and know you got two picks in the double draft of 2023. By 2023 the Nets should have fallen off too, that that 1-6 should be really good for the East and there would be additional depth.
