Lets say Knicks sign Lonzo for the 20 million a year he wants. Who do we bring back who is coming off the books? Who else should the FO pursue in free agency?
Mitch/Noel would be a great anchor for the D, going forward. Hope we can bring Noel back.
Everyone. Burks, Bullock, Rose, and Noel have all been very good for us and establishing continuity is something we only just started doing. Buff their contracts and get them back and draft well with our 3 valuable picks in a good draft.
Lonzo
RJ
Bullock
Randle
Mitch
Rose
Quicks
Burks
Obi
Noel
JButler(Dallas)
Bouknight(Ours)
Knox
Bassey(DET early 2nd/late first)
If Randle keeps up productivity and Lonzo, RJ, Quicks, and Obi come back improved players and at least 1 of our younglings step up we're in a good spot.

Id keep an eye open for a star, which would mean some good players might not be brought back. Its striking a balance between talent and chemistry.

Even more reason to get guys who did well under good contracts. Only other star is Kawhi but he's going back to LA most likely. Conley Lowry and Dragic will be available but since this hypothetical assumes we get Lonzo so they're redundant. Much better star power in 2022 with likes of Steph, Lavine, and Beal being available so keeping our cap space flexible would be ideal.

Always players who ask to be traded. We get Lonzo, we might actually see stars ask to get traded to NY. Not just use us to get a better deal elsewhere. Lonzo is a pass-first PG, stars will find easy to work with.

Yeah I think they will want to be in the Beal/Lavine sweepstakes in 2022. Noel, Rose, and Bullock are good roleplayers. Of those three Bullock and Noel might get offers the Knicks won’t match. Rose could too but I don’t know people knows he loves Thibs.
Can’t do next season yet. We have 4 draft picks. Doubt we keep them. PErhaps a sign and trade for Lonzo. Pels likely not letting him walk for nada.
But, I don’t bring both Bullock and Burks back. May be one. Time to move forward either internally, a pick, a trade or FA.
I like them both in a Trey Burke/Keith Van HOrn kind of way. They played well here but we have to move forward.
For fans, its the unknown.
Where is my Lonzo, damn it. Why haven't we traded for him yet?

Bring in Lonzo and bring back everyone else. Resigning rose, Bullock and Burks is a no brainer. Noel too but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a long term deal elsewhere and Knicks replace him in the draft if they intend on keeping Mitch. I just only see one or the other as a long term bet. Weirdly I wouldn’t be surprised if Toppin is dealt for a first round pick as a way to keep the war chest full for a future trade. Toppin still has upside but being only 3 years younger than Randle makes his future fit tough. Otherwise I want to keep things rolling as is.
Does signing Lonzo AND bringing everyone back give us enough talent to get past the best of the East?
We'd be very good IMO, but not good enough. I think we need one more star. RJ looks like he's on an All-Star trajectory. Lonzo setting the table for Randle/RJ/another star, gives us the best chance of keeping up scoringwise with Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Miami, among others. Not to mention the West.
Sometimes Stars get hurt, the more talent on the roster to pick up the slack, the better.

Lonzo will have become a star once he signs with us.

Still dont believe it will be enough to get past Brooklyn. They just added Blake Griffin. They can effectively field two starting lineups with multiple All-Stars. We wouldnt even be the best team in NY.
Brooklyn probably isnt done yet. Good role players will take a discount to play there, for a great shot at a ring.
Thats the point we want to get to. Need more star power to do that.

The buyout guys won't be there past this season
The trade deadline has passed and we have not made any significant move, so we more or less know what the situation will be at the end of the season.
I don’t believe we’re going to go into some kind of all in scenario so I guess all these 30+ PGs aren’t an option. Lonzo is the most legitimate target here, but as I wrote, I am afraid an offer of 20+ million per season will be needed so that Pelicans do not match it.
The free agents wing market, except of course Kawhi, is not something particularly rich. I wouldn't be surprised if we try to bring Powell or Trent here. But by bringing Lonzo and one of them and extending Mitchell, we would be left without room for the summer of 2022 when there are still some better free agents.
I wouldn’t be surprised either if we don’t end up bringing in any significant free agent this summer and that Rose puts together pieces of the puzzle for big moves in 2022. I’m just not sure Thibs would accept something like that.

Is Ball worth that? You are banking heavily that his upward trend continues.
Ball is an excellent defender. Very good rebounding guard. Very good passer.
First time in 4 years he's averaging respectable shooting %s
Would be a good fit at PG for Thibs with his defense and size
Not a good half court player.
Doesnt create his own shot
Never gets to the FT line
Offense consists of shooting 3s at varying success
Is this the player you want to throw $100mm+ at?
Lonzo is good at $15mm ish. He's a role player. Supporting cast and he's only OK at that.

Ok ayo dosunmo it is then at pick 15
Or
Tell me your pg we can get that is over the hill that you are a fan of?
Dosunmo or rose starts since your very concerned over a down hill pg
And have iq and ball at the 1 and 2 off the bench lol problem solved (sarcasm)
Reasons for ball.(not in order)
1. Has to fit timeline to be an asset we could potential ship in a monster trade down the line
2. Has to fit timeline of group
3. We are looking to be good for 2020-2033 not 2020-2023
4. Nobody said Lonzo is our savior offensively.
5. We will be signing another all star caliber player
6. If he can sustain his current level of production and get slightly better, that’s exactly what we need
7 if we ge ball we will trade 2 picks and players to be named at draft. This will free 3 million of cap so really he would cost us 17m because we didn’t sign 2 rookie picks
Which would leave 30m + available for the next 2 seasons to find our perfect blend
Or trade all 4 picks and like Knox and Toppin and move up to get suggs
Or
Ayo dosunmo and rose it is!
Or
Your over the hill vet you have in mind?
I havent heard anyone say we're the best team in NY with just the addition of Lonzo. Let alone the East. Which speaks to why even if Lonzo becomes a star (which Ive been projecting since he was at rock bottom in LA) we're going to need more help.
Its not like the old days. Its the "superteams" who win most of the titles.
What Lonzo brings is a pass first PG who can run the fast break and setup other players at a high level. Payton is a decent passer but he is not Lonzo’s level as a passer and neither is Rose or IQ. Lonzo would be an instant upgrade in facilitating more passing with the starters and now that he has improved his 3pt shot, defenses cannot play off of him like to do Payton. Plus, Lonzo has the height to play off ball with IQ, who I think will turn into a Jamal Crawford/Lou Williams type scorer, but who is probably not going to run the offense as a full time pg. This summer’s goal should be to sign Lonzo (3-4 year deal), resign Noel (2-3 year deal) and probably resign Burke’s and/or Bullock (1-2 year deals). I then probably package Frank with Knox and one of our first rounders to move up in the draft, since our picks will likely be in the 15-22 range.
