Knicks · Thibs lost game last night (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 3/30/2021 6:32 AM
There was something off about starting unit last night and he rode them well into the 3 rd q as they destroyed the game — mojo was then beat.
blkexec @ 3/30/2021 8:08 AM
That 2:3 zone hurt us. And it will destroy us 8n the playoffs. We have to be the worse 3rd quarter team in franchise history. Anytime we have a good 3rd quarter, it stands out. There's enough blame to go around.
Knixkik @ 3/30/2021 8:11 AM
Thibs reluctance to bench Payton hurts. With Payton in the game, the offense will always be slow and teams can rely on zone. With Rose healthy and Quickley settling into his role, i'd like to see Payton finally get the ax. I would imagine Thibs starting him but only playing him 15 mins per game is sort of him doing that, and he doesn't want to have a negative impact on the locker room. But at some point it's time to cut the cord.
GustavBahler @ 3/30/2021 8:38 AM
I heard Payton has something to do with global warming as well..

We were up, then Noel sat for most of the 3rd. Butler had a field day, end of story.

Rose missed some late shots as well. Silly to pin this all on Payton.

GustavBahler @ 3/30/2021 8:47 AM
A healthy Mitch and Noel, we win this game. Mitch has been suffering from contact injuries. Not the same thing KP has been going through. This game demonstrates the importance of bringing them both back.

The fact that we made zero moves to upgrade the roster, lets me know this is how it's going to be for the rest of the season, roles are in place.

The knicks can play faster to avoid having to always execute against a zone defense, so that could be on thibs, or maybe the players are hurting a little bit, Rose coming off covid, randles thigh, bullock, payton coming off missed games.

Thibs definitely needs a better game plan against the heat

jrodmc @ 3/30/2021 9:08 AM
Yeah, if only Thibs had hit a few more of RJ's threes. If only Thibs hadn't broken Mitch's foot. If only Thibs didn't give birth to and then sign El Cid Satan. If only Thibs hadn't turned Jimmy Butler into a future HOF'er. Oh wait, he actually did do that last one, right?

Stay tuned, BRIGGS' "Thibs won every game" thread is coming to a theatre near you soon!

Yeah. We've been a bad 3rd quarter team for years b4 thibs came here. If we gonna blame thibs for this 1 lost....then we have to give thibs credit for 20 plus wins. When u think of it that way, it's kinda silly to fault thibs.

To me, thibs is a players coach. I didnt realize that until he came here. Now I see why players like playing for him. He doesn't waiver. Hes consistent.....sometimes to a fault.
But with that style, every player understands their role, the time they have in the game....when they sub in the game. Everything is structured...which is a good environment for developing young players. Sometimes we might lose games...but as you see, overall we are a better team because of this structure and consistency....compared to last year.

We need to figure out this zone defense... and thibs may have to adjust his starting lineup....in preparation for zone defense. Payton, RJ, Noel and not shooters. Randle is a post player who can shoot. But he's not a shooter. Bullock is the only shooter in the starting 5, and he's VERY inconsistent. If he's not hitting, it puts pressure on the other non shooters....when he's hitting, we win most games....

I thought we played better as a team when Rose was the starter....and Payton/ quickley come off the bench. Improves our starting unit and gives quickley the green light in the 2nd unit. Allows Payton to play his game. And quickley/Burks will help open the floor doe Payton in that 2nd unit.

+1 the bold
Hopefully having Rose in the line up again more as time goes on, also helps Obi out.

Nalod @ 3/30/2021 9:28 AM
I think the Heat despite a 6 game losing streak still better than Knicks.
They lost 6 and nobody fired Spo. Heat owner losing his ass in his core business and they are just doing biz as usual.
Riles and Aronson are just cool. Teams go thru bad stretches and Heat don’t panic. I can’t speak for their fans and I’m sure somewhere in south Florida there is a Briggs on UltimateHeat.com seconding guessing or at least trying to.
that game was not won just becuase Miami on a losing streak and we on a 3 game winning but “Thibs lost the game last night”.
My goodness, do we put Thibs so high on a pedestal that he can’t coach a bad game or Spo had tools and countered that just flat out coached him?

Against a zone you need a man who can make a 12 footer/and or passer in the middle and guys who can hit corner 3's. That gives you open foul line jumpers you space the zone out at the corners and that opens up driving lanes from the side hash marks

But this wasnt about attacking a zone--the player combos failed in unit 1 last night twice. We did not change up

That's what i thought Burks and Bullock were here for, they are supposed to be our zone busters, we need those 2 to play well in order to win.
Bullock sometimes falls in love with the 3 ball, he went 0-5 on his first 5 shots all from 3, then hits his first mid range shot.

And i don't know why everytime I see Obi, he's 30 feet from the basket.

how come no one is pointing out this genius

How about this, Miami is a better team than we are? The Knicks aren't good enough that we dictate what happens on the court in every game. Sometimes you just have to give it up to the other team. Defensively they pretty much locked up every scorer we had and their scorers made every important basket.

This isn't a video game. The coach can't punch in a cheat code and win the game for us.

Vmart @ 3/30/2021 11:43 AM
Knox and Frank need to get run. This is getting tiring watching players play and then boom out of rotation. I’m still not sure why Toppin is getting minutes over Knox. Knox has shown he can score in the league. And the Knicks needed scoring. Type of game where Thibs need to use his roster.

One thing people do is forget that we aren't privy to what happens in practice. Toppin and Knox may be showing things in practice that explains why one is getting minutes and the other isn't.

Privy to practice? 🤔 well he does say Frank works hard in practice and does all the right things. I’m sure Knox is doing the necessary things as well. But I’m starting to think that those two are not being put in good position in favor of Their picks.

This.

Thibs has started Payton most of year. Do not see anyone attributing any of the success to that.
Think we shot like 10 from 36 from 3pt. That usually the culprit when we lose. These are the games we also need to be able to go inside. Unfortunately, we do not have anyone at the 5 that can do so. Gibson was a -22.
