Knicks · What about Westbrook? (page 2)

Doubt it. Even when he was in Houston , had to resort to even more gimmicks to make Brodie fit. Westbrook is good and he's a force of nature. But he's not a guy who bends into a system. The system bends to him.

How about Quick playing well enough to justify playing more minutes?

Yes, the numbers are great, but that just doesn’t reflect on the team’s wins. His numbers are really an anomaly because I don’t know if there was a player who looked so good statistically without the team benefiting too much from him.

Someone once said he wasn’t trying to create “super teams”. No he didn't, but that's why he managed to drive the stars out of his own team several times.

Yep. I said this before, Westbrook has mastered the art of stat accumulation. He has learned how to pile up meaningless rebounds. He's learned how to pad his assist totals. He like the chick at the bar who looks good from a distance...until you get closer and notice that everything is fake.

With right players around him he went to finals. Washington completely stinks. Their secondary players stink—- we have good pieces. I’d bet we’d be very very formidable with Westbrook. I didn’t know he made 45 mm though — that’s rich

Come on, Briggs..."right players around him" were Durant and Harden. It's like saying that Kuzma brought the Lakers the title last season with "right players around him" (to avoid confusion, I'm not comparing Westbrook and Kuzma as players).

A young in prime Ibaka too!

“The right players”.......Randle and RJ coached by Thibs?

And didn't he also get benched in the playoffs because his play was negatively affecting the "right players around him?"
Welpee @ 4/4/2021 5:23 PM
By the way, not sure if anybody has noticed but Westbrook has padded his stats to elevate himself into averaging a triple double for the season again: 21.8 ppg, 10.4 rebs, 10.5 assists. As I said previously, this guy has mastered the art of padding his numbers with meaningless stats. Look at his numbers over the past 10 games (24 ppg, 12 assists, 12 rebs). He is obviously trying post another triple double season. Meanwhile, the Wizards have gone 3-7 over this stretch and 17-31 for the season playing (even though he plays alongside another all-NBA player).

And people really wanted him on the Knicks?

Wtf does this mean?!
Meaningless rebounds? What? Is be just tapping the ball multiple times to himself off the backboard?
Meaningless assists?! Isn't that a contradiction? Please define this for me.

Its kind of strange to rank on a player who helped lead his team to 4 conference finals and one final while the Knicks were winning 23 games per.

Guards chasing down easy, uncontested rebounds to pad their stats versus letting their bigs eat. Also, there have been a lot of point guards who aren't giving up the ball unless it leads to an assist. So essentially sacrificing flow and ball movement to pad their assist numbers. No interest in the pass that leads to a pass that leads to a basket (the hockey assist). Again, people need to actually watch this dude play versus just looking at box scores.

He's playing with a 3x all-star who is going to be all-nba this season who's leading the league in scoring who averaged 30 ppg the previous year. He has Dāvis Bertāns who was good enough to average 15 ppg last year shooting 42% on threes. That alone should be enough to get you to .500. Look at Portland's record with Dame and tell me their roster is significantly better than Washington's.

I think a guy named Kevin Durant played a slight role in that.

You get someone like Westbrook, after they've been bought out. After you've built a contender, and need someone off the bench. We arent that team yet. Dont want to see him brought in as a starter. Chemistry will likely suffer.

Westbrook off the bench. That's rich.

Not as rich as 90 million over the next two years. Sure Westbrook can still start. Just dont want him to start here. He would be entertaining, but I dont believe we should pay him that much, take up that much of the cap. Or give him that much responsibility. Hasnt worked out at other stops, even with HOF talent on the roster.

So what you are saying is you need to surround Westbrook with young Durant, Harden, Ibaka for Westbrook to be effective?

+1
Then OKC coach Billy Donovan was quoted years ago as saying Westbrook refuses to do the simple things without the ball. REFUSES TO DO THE SIMPLE THINGS. Like cutting, setting off ball screens. Yes, I know we have Taj Mahal Gibson, Nerlens and such for the dirty work, but does anyone here, even those very few who hate Dolan and his money, want to pay 90 mil to watch entertaining but losing fireworks? You're not getting displays like the last win with Westbrook. As others have said, look what the results are in Washington. They routinely aren't even in games. Is that what anyone here wants to watch?

Westbrook and his contract are going to be pawned off on team after team until he finally breaks down.

Nalod @ 4/5/2021 9:23 AM
I’m no Wiz expert but they not far from respectable. I doubt Westbrook is the sole reason for their issues but his double-double stat machine act will get him to HOF as MVP and its impressive.
He is a special individual athlete in a team oriented game.
