Knicks · R j Barrett is proving to be a great piece (page 1)

I’m not overly concerned about losing as long as our younger players play well.

RJ incredible shooting transformation from year to year has been incredible. He’s a guy who will be a main cog in great knicks teams of future

Absolutely. Dude is a worker. He knows his strengths and he tries to perfect them. I am happy with him.

I think we have seen enough to all agree he’s looking like the real deal. 45% from the field and 38% from 3pt is good for a career, let alone year 2. Next step for him will be improving his scoring off the dribble and with star-level attention. His confidence with his shooting does vary but i think that’s a youth thing. He looks like a future star alongside Randle. We need that one more piece to come here and we are in business.

The next step on his development is tied to his reputation. Dude doesn't get calls. When he starts getting calls like the other NBA stars then watch out. This will help him with his drives to the basket. Jimmy Butler started getting calls in his 3rd year where his FT attempts jump from 2.8 to 5.0 and hasn't looked back since. Giannis had the same trajectory where he went from 2.6 to 4.3 to 5.1 year 1 to 3. RJ is already getting there due to the style of play. 4.5 last year and 4.1 this year. Once he gets to 7 FTAs then he will be an All-Star.

I would like to see him used in different ways besides him always getting the ball on a curl beyond the 3 point line.

Thibs should run other plays for him, I agree with Wally. Thibs should work out how to give him 20 shots a game.

Saying thats is like Saying I don't care if we lose as long as my guys put up good Numbers, A LA WESTBROOK.

For all the good RJ did last night, he made the turnover that lost the game in the end.

What's the purpose of playing Hard if your not going to play smart.

I love RJ's growth, but I NEED the IQ level to go up more than his skills

Pretty sure he said “play well” not “put up fake numbers”

You contradicted him by changing “play well” to “play smart”

Nobody said “play perfect”

I think the point is that there is a growth function that required PT and as long as we are seeing development, we can accept some losses, including last night.

Guess what, he is not KOBE closer yet at age 20
Did they turnover really demonstrate a lack of IQ? Or just undeveloped clutch moment where he shit the bed at a bad time.
Elf’s three to tie it up was pretty damn clutch!!!!
Your IQ could use some elevation. That game was never going to be close if Barrett did not provide the production leading to the moment. see the entirety of the game and you might walk away with more than pointing at faults. They exist. we get it.

Knicks lose by 15 without RJ. Guy shot 10-14 6/6 on 3 ball. I’m not an 8 seed guy. Either you have the cogs to win it all or you don’t. I’m sure most Knick’s fans are ecstatic to know we have two great younger pieces. Randle Rn and I thought Mitch was headed that way — some good free agent is gonna see this. I don’t mind playing well and losing right now. We’re bSically a mathematical lock to be on a play in game — so you’re gonna get atleast that. I hope we get play in game than lose.

he's looking like a great piece, and he plays both ends of the floor.

We really need like 1-2 more guys. We have some nice picks and young players like IQ/Obi/Mitch but we need a stud PG and/or SF to match up with RJ/Randle

MS @ 4/8/2021 9:53 AM
RJ lost the game?! Ha.

He hit a three to tie the game after a turnover and scored 29 points. He didn’t loose the game he was special last night. Thibs was not great last night!

Yes he is. Believe some fans underestimated RJ's drive.
technomaster @ 4/8/2021 10:52 AM
RJ did great on the floor against his Duke brethren Tatum. Nice to have a good game against a key career benchmark player.

Stats as of 4/8, soph vs rookie years:
2nd year: 45.0 FG%, 38.0 3P%, 73.5 FT% (52 games played)
Rookie: 40.2 FG%, 32.0 3P%, 61.4 FT% (55 games played)

Amazing improvement across the board - I don't think we could have dreamed of a much better outcome.

He was a TOP 5 pick, I don't think anyone really underestimated him.

I would say it if RJ was the number one pick. More than a few fans had "buyer's remorse".

The word 'bust" was used literally after his second summer league game.

Doesnt have Kobe's athleticism, but I do believe RJ has that " Mamba mentality." Not afraid of the big moment. Failures only push him to work harder. Kobe airballed those 3s his first playoff series. Came back stronger.

Saw the same thing when RJ was bricking all those 3s earlier in the season. Didnt go into a funk. Started driving to the rim over and over, got better at bully ball. Then went back to shooting the 3 when he was more confident. Keeps the momentum going.

Now imagine if we had traded for CP3

I feel like most scout and fans believed(including me) he had highest bust potential
