I think Burks is more of an example of what Thibs offensive system looks like when you have a PG who can shoot.
Burks is a Shooting guard with handles and high IQ. He's not a PG. But it also proves my point from years ago. PGs are becoming extinct. Now they are guards who can either shoot, slash or be a playmaker. Burks just happen to be better at all 3 compared to the PGs on our roster.
I hope we resign him. If he goes anywhere else, he will not get this type of role. He's a modern day 6 man....who finishes games in the 4th. Watching him the other day, and the first player I thought about was John Starks. Burks will always have that, "he should be a starter" game. And he should. But I think he's more impactful the way Thibs is using him.

Also Burks has a good skill set but part of why he's so good in the 4th is he's playing with the starters and does a great job with the space RJ/Randle create.
He's good and I like him but would put Noel over Burks as a priority for the MLE type money they are talking. Noel will likely be more. We'll see.

Really? I like Noel but Burks seems to have larger overall impact. Noel's rim protection is fantastic, but he dosen't affect the game in other ways whereas Burks can shoot and score the ball while playing solid D. Noel is easier to replace but I hope we keep all of em.
He’s thriving w us because he can shoot. Been very happy w him and Noel but I also don’t think we should break the bank. I have a sneaky suspicion thibs is one of those guys (and his staff) that will get similar results from other players if necessary

Burks has the best plus minus on the team by a wide margin. Noel is doing great things but is easier to replace. Burks has to be the priority. In today’s league you need wings that do what he does. There’s a lot of games this season we know for fact we don’t win without him. I think besides Randle he’s been the most important player in terms of impact when it matters.
I like Burks but feel others could fill the roll as well. We aspire to move forward and replace him with one better. How and when I don’t know, but locking him up is loving him today. There are others, yes???
So basically I keep him at a price that fits with a process I can’t tell you.
Enjoying the ride!

Agreed, but as someone else mentioned, if we lose Bullock, we have to keep Burks. And is it just me, or is Bullock the worst defender we have? I know he's lights out with kickouts from Randle, but at times his defense is nauseating. Not Bargs-level, but close.

Bullock has made some key defensive plays this season. He's a good, but not great defender. Burks has to be the priority either way. I can see Burks starting next year alongside Ball, and Bullock being let go (unless he comes back for cheap.) Burks is a solid defender, and brings the same shooting as Bullock but more offensive ability as a guy that can get into the lane, play emergency PG, and doesn't make bad decisions. He's the perfect 4th quarter player because he's a good spot up shooter, good ball handler against a press, good defender, and can make free throws. Plus he obviously makes big shots. If the offense falls apart he can get a decent shot at the basket.

I like your take.
I think the Knicks will draft wing players and possibly a big if they keep all of their picks.
It'll be interesting to see how the next offseason plays out. If you are able to only get Ball as a free agent, all of the main guys can come back. If the Knicks target 2 guys? Who knows
Outside of just a gut feel, I think Bullock has a better chance at returning than Burks if push comes to shove. Burks will get better offers and I just think Bullock has more ties to NYC with family, etc.

Does Bullock have ties to NY? He's from NC and went to UNC. I was going to suggest the same about Burks being tied to the Knicks more because of Bryant and Perrin. Burks will likely get MLE offers. Not maybe teams have more than that who aren't rebuilding teams. Dallas, Miami, Charlotte, and San Antonio are teams that have money and are trying to remain in the playoff mix. I can see Dallas being a team that really goes hard after him. Otherwise I can see us offering a 3 year deal slightly above the MLE and probably having a pretty good chance of retaining him due to the connections to the front office and coaching staff. As of now i'm trying to get Ball and Burks on long-term deals and trying to bring back Noel, Rose, and Bullock all on 1-year overpays or cheap 2-year deals. Obviously not all 3 of them will accept those terms, but I think we should try to bring as much of the team back for continuity, starting with Burks.

+100. Especially that last point. You bring back and reward the guys who have played really well.
With him not in the line up, who steps in? Knox or Frankie?
Maybe we WWW be like: "You dunk on the Latvian you stay".
unstopaball12 wrote:I hope frankie gets the burn. He always plays well vs the mavs and guards lika very well
Frank generally helps Doncic miss shots. That's important when you play the Mavs.

Problem is either he or Bullock will be gone next year. We need to cut some dead weight like Knox so we have some extra cash to reup these guys. We have made progress but if we let Noel, Bullock, and Burke go we get set back again

Or move forward with new faces. I understand when things are going well to “hold on to what you know”. Not saying let all three go, but money matters, as does opportunity.
