How much to keep the band together? Won’t be cheap
Gibson for the minimum which is easy enough. As far as Rose, Bullock, Burks, and Noel it's tough. The draft will dictate a lot too. But we need to keep as many of them as possible. 1 year overpays, or multi-year underpays are obviously most ideal. What those numbers are, I don't have a clue. The core is Randle, Barrett, and Quickley in my opinion, but the guys you mentioned are so critical. It would be a shame to let some of them go and lose what makes this team what it is.

This success we're having is on Thibs - he looks like the kind of coach that can get guys to do things they haven't done in the past.
I think the question you should be asking - and it's too early to- is what does the group look like next year, because there are guys like these players available every year.
Look at Pop & San Antonio - they always find players to buy in to their system, who fit what they are trying to do from a team perspective.
I'm not so worried about losing some of these guys next year. I'm not even thinking about it.
The real question is are some of our guys able to take the next step next year, and can Julius Randle actually perform like he has this year?
Looking at the current salaries - my guesses for open market UFA signings:
- Noel will probably be around $8 - $10M per year (benchmark Tristan Thompson, Derrick Favors, DeAndre Jordan)
- Bullock will be somewhere between $9 - $12 (Ariza, Crowder, Iguodala)
- Burks - going to guess $10-$15M - hard to find a comparable as he plays multiple positions.

This is a good breakdown. I think Gibson and Rose are locks to come back. Burks and Bullock are tougher but i feel good about our chances to retain them. Noel may be tougher as the Knicks may have to chose between he and Mitch, although i hope they don't. Guys like Burks and Bullock need to be resigned. Noel is a center and although he's doing his thing, he's more replaceable i think.

You can probably replace their production with one of our 1st round picks.

It's unlikely you replace their production in the draft next year. Most rookies aren't positive contributors. Your best bet is a guy like Duarte in the later first round because he's a 3&D type guy and is already 23/24 years old. What Burks/Bullock are doing is not something a rookie can likely replace next year.

Facts. I don’t think they’re any FA’s who I’d replace B&B with nevermind guys who haven’t had any NBA experience. Besides, from what I can gather on Thibs, you need to do multiple things well for Thibs to even look at you as an option off the bench. I’m already prepared for most of our picks to spend season 1 riding bench/ getting G league mins.
I think the only one that will be hard to keep is Burks. Bullock and Gibson with their age and skillset will diminish their signing opportunities. Rose seems to just want to play for Thibs and that's it. Also..Gibson wants to play for NY because of his family and specially his dad. The only team that could steal him away from us would be the Nets.

Given the short leash on Quickley, a rookie has a very minimal chance of really breaking thru on a Thibs team, especially with the Knicks winning. Quickley is the exception, not the rule. I tend to believe Noel is our most replaceable of the bunch because Thibs can probably just start Mitch and use Gibson as the primary backup. We may also use a draft pick on a guy like Isaiah Jackson from Kentucky who can be a 3rd string for next year, and can bring back Pelle or a guy on a 1-year deal like Daniel Theis. Just seems there's more options at center and Burks and Bullock being multi-position guys who can shoot and defend are higher priorities.

If we are going to be this mid level playoff team this year duarte and kispert look the most interesting in that 16-22 range
I see these 2 as burks and bullocks long term replacement for cheap rookie contracts that matches our youth movement

It's weird, Gibson is playing at the same level as he had been doing last year and got no offers. Maybe he wanted to stick with NY?
Taj is a Knick. He likes playing here close to his family it seems. He will easily take a discount. Plus the Knicks can offer him a job after he retire lol

The center position is strange in the league. It's similar to RB in football. Gibson is the same player, yet he's not a classic rim protector or floor spacer. Same with Kyle O'Quinn. He plays tough on both ends of the floor, but he doesn't have a job right now.

Yeah I don't see that changing. I was shocked they waited so long to sign him this season. They got lucky he was still available. He can always be a solid backup, especially for Thibs.

I'll also add that Burks really isn't producing at a level that's higher than his previous season. Plus he's older. I think $8M per is what he's probably looking at. I'd say Bullock is also looking at the MLE.
Good question. Tough question. Believe we'll have a better idea after the playoffs. See who steps up.

He’s a better back up big than most in the league I think. He’s a really smart team defender with enough solid feet on offense to snatch 7-10 easy points.
