all these middle tier teams and some dangerous ones outside looking in (like GS) its been great. Forever so many of these games fell into the "nobody cares" category and when it came to resting star players and results teams treated them this way. Its bad for the product this has literally been the perfect fix. Instead of a tankathon its a straight up nightly hustle and these fringe games have been great.
Is it fair for a "super team" to coast just over .500 all season risk-free only to unleash a rested Lebron/AD combo?
I am hearing its going to stay and I think that is great.
Luka, Lebron - divas only whining when it's looking like a real chance they'll be in it. Not a peep before that. Not when Dallas was looking lottery bound.
I'm real interested to see what happens with GS in these elimination games. Steph is scaring the shit out of these guys.

100% spot on, FM. And might I add...LBJ is a whiny lil bitch, just as he always has been. I can't imagine MJ fussing about having to work hard to win a chip. LBJ may as well be a Gen Z brat given his need to make things easy to collect trophies. No heart there, just entitlement.
I love it. It gives so many teams on the bubble a chance to turn their season around. Who wants to play Washington the way they've been playing?
And if you are a competitor, does winning 1 more game if you finish 7th really that much of an ask? You're 7th, not 6th or 5th!
I can't believe my joy in watching Lebronna and the Lakers fade is conflicted by my greater desire for the Mavs to be in the play-in (because of the draft pick...mostly). Oh well -- his/their suffering and pants wetting is still a great thing to witness. I understand there are posters here who are above that sort of thing -- well not me!
The format doesn’t make a lot of sense.
The 7th seed shouldn’t have to worry about not making the playoffs.
The 9 should play the 10 and then a winner take all vs the 8 on their home court.
But, Lebron is being a bitch for complaining now. Didn’t hear any tears when Drummond signed for the vet minimum!

+1 Co-posts of the month on so many levels, I don't know where to start.
I'm so glad Randle and Co don't seem to have the time or energy to waste complaining about having to win games. Every game, actually.
There’s no way the Lakers are winning a chip this year- they’re a mess, Schroeder is now out for 10-14 days under covid protocols, Lebron aggravated his ankle sprain, AD is looking rusty and I don’t trust his injury not to flare up. There’s a chemistry issue brewing with some players getting fed up of Drummond (so glad we didn’t sign him) and they will have had hardly any time playing together

the bold... why? Why should the 7th seed be entitled to anything? Top 4 get home court. Top 6 are in. 7-10 you gotta play your way in. What is unfair about that?
Suddenly where you finish... 5-10 really matters and its created a great game by game buzz around the league. Meanwhile you have Wash/Tor who would be in a tankathon fighting for every game and they should. They are both talented teams and should have the punchers chance in the first round. Watching teams like that battle at the end of the season is great for the sport.
There are too many regular season NBA games, and you KNOW there are too many because the last 1/3 of the season is meaningless... until now.

Agreed.
LeBron “Floppy” James should probably just retire. With each additional season, I respect him less and less as a player. I totally respect him as a man. As a brand even. Whether flopping to get a call. Recruiting super friends to put talent other teams instead of out playing them. It’s just always taking the easy way out. He could have been the greatest. He should have been the greatest. He isn’t though. And I can’t discuss him the way I think of MJ. It’s not really even close. I’m interested in his career after, though. His recruitment and charm will be helpful to a franchise - much like Magic.
Funny thing is Lebron was the one who asked for a play in tourney!
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2021/05/lakers-...If you want to know the real reason why he dosen't like the playin here's why:
They are currently playing the Nuggets with Portland, Clippers, Suns, Knicks, Rockets, Pelicans, Pacers up next. Almost as if he knows who is going to be in the playin lmao he should cry some more.
When did Lebrun become the de facto commissioner?

I know. He’s a flip flopping diva
Y’all hate his ego driven manner but he and Lakers are defending champs. Not the prime minister of an important country.
Maybe he liked it, now he don’t from were he sits. He has a point but........Nalod loves the idea regardless of how unfair it is.
I do think tough a team in frost place after the first half should be given a bye for injury sake. Makes all of the season important. Just a thought.
He needs to STFU. The play in tournament is for the fans. Clearly the tournament itself is going to be fun to watch. First time I’ve been excited by the start of the playoffs since they made the first round 7 games.
But here’s the big thing - I’m seeing a whole lot less of these assholes making half a million a game getting to rest while they squeeze $250 out of family to watch lebron get his rest day - fuck you and fuck that
It’s a business LeBron. The purpose of it is 1) ratings and 2) to get more teams to compete and get away from tanking. Maybe you should be fired. Oh that doesn’t make business sense? Neither does anything you say.
If they are adding this to remove “coasting” then they probably should take further steps to get rid of “tanking” for lottery. I am in favor of any anti-competitive approaches. I don’t fault teams like the Sixers or Knicks for tanking where it was permitted, but as they try and make a more competitive league, I like the idea of making these approaches less rewarding.

this x 1000
Sure you can rest but it costs something, and its SHOULD cost something. Resting key players is a tactical long term strategy that until only recently was wildly unfair not just for the fans but for the rest of the league where a super team coasts resting guys then wins the thing. At least make there be some consequence and they have done a good job at that I think.
A thread like this would have been perfect for TT

Agreed. Three of his posts would have pushed this out to 40 pages.
