Unfortunately I’m watching the ESPN feed on my app today and Van Gundy is acting like Charles Barkley Jr with his Knick vitriol. “the Hawks are better” “the Knicks won so many games in the regular season because they don’t rest their players” - like that’s a bad thing
Jeff, you had the chance to coach here again and get paid millions to get this team back to the playoffs. You didn’t because you dismissed us as going nowhere. Go enjoy coaching the Mavs or the Timberwolves in a couple years

Don't care.
And spoiler warning: The Hawks are a good team.
A Knicks-Hawks series could so any which way and I won't be surprised 4-0, 4-1, 4=2, 4-3, 3-4 2-4, 1-4, 0-4.
Either one of two 41-31 teams could get hot or cold or find a weakness in a short series.

The Hawks got hyped up as the Warriors East in the offseason. I haven’t been that impressed

Over 72 games they played to an identical record as the Knicks. I'm not suggesting you be impressed. I'm merely pointing out the match-up is a coin toss.

They were projected to be a top 3 team in the East and we finished with a higher seed

Correct.
The Knicks are WAY better than expected to be and maybe they Hawks were a hair off of their expectations.
Neither of those things speak to how they match to to one another next week.
i could surprise and run the fastest 100 meter I've ever run in my life and Ussain Bolt could run with 20 pound ankle weights and it doesn't mean I'm going to win.
Today, May 16 these are two teams that can beat one another on ANY given night and can take 4 of 7 from one another easily.
What expectations were on Thanksgiving isn't relevant to that.

Hawks good. Still, i'd rather play them then Miami. We have guys to at least bother their backcourt. The Hawks, outside of Capela, offer no resistance to our front court.

All I'm saying is if the Knicks lose I'm not going to be calling for Thibs head, i won't be questioning Randle or Barrett or complain that the season was a failure.
ANYTHING beyond this point is gravy.
50-50 series. Which is why home court helps a lot.
Hawks are 26-11 since hiring Nasty Nate though(equates to around a 50 win season out of 72 games if Nate started the season with them).
Knicks are 26-11 at Home/16-20 Away. Hawks still have a home game to play but had the same exact Home/Away record as the Knicks.
No haterade. Just not a homer. Thats not his job. Nobody said the job we as his anyway and besides who the phuch cares about JVG.
He can say 10 good things but a homer will focus on the one bad.
JVG was praising us for weeks, even praised Randle when all the focus was on what Curry was doing in the game. He’s no hater.
He’s right about the Hawks- they are deep, loaded with three point shooters and are going to be really difficult to beat. Bogdanovic has been playing next level, and was a real tough, clutch player in euro games.
A back court of him and Trae Young (who can draw zillions of fouls with his BS flopping) can penetrate and a pass and shoot, and can be surrounded by 3 point shooters like Gallo, Collins, Hunter, Lou Williams, Huerter, With defensive, rebounding menace Clint Capella at C. They’re versatile too. I don’t understand why so many Knick fans think they’re going to be easy

3-0 and thus what was will always be for many fans. After Nate they are much better than their record. We might not be as good as our record. Covid has been a weird ass season. The games will sort it out.

Where would Van Gundy be without the Knicks? Coaching high school making crap money?
Hawks might be better, but as good as Nate McMillian is, I kinda got to give the edge to Thibs and I think he is worth +1 games.

He was vastly overrated as a coach, and even more so now as a TV commentator.
Hawks are scary. They all are scary. This is new territory for us in a long time.
Time to find out how good we really are
Jvg is speaking truth.
I’m
Only confident we are better than 7-15 east
I think if everyone is being truthful hawks team and fans are concerned as well.
I also think the top 6 teams in the league view is as a hard workout they would rather not take part in but they know they will knock it out lol
We will find out

The man is just telling the truth. We had a good year but our talent level in not good. Thibs counters this by playing Randle and RJ until they are about to die. This is why I am against overpaying our free agents. I like them but we can't pay too much for them and not have enough money left for a good PG and another star scorer. This has been an amazing year but if we don't fix our recent shooting slump we will get spanked easily. One of these 5 to 9 minute long droughts and that an easy 20 to 30pt deficit against the hawks. Our saving grace is that they have no one who can stop Randle. So we should get good production out of him during the series.

In the words of Jimmy of Butler "Baby sh@#!" That's the consistency of the Hawks toughness. They've got talent, but I think we can grind them.

Haha yea
Trey young is so crafty 😅😩
The Hawks have more talent than us.
We have more toughness and discipline than the Hawks.
Thibs is going to be put to the test to see if his all season playoff mode strategy was the right one. It actually could be the right one, that’s the funny thing.
I’m just happy our season isn’t over and there is no talk of lottery picks!

Who said he had a chance to coach here? HE turn us down and they give it to Thibs? JVG has not coached in 23 years! PHil Jax won his last chip in 2010! Jeff a good dude and he did a god job here. Came and went. This romantic notion he’d come back is all on fans. He might have been offered the job in Houston for a second round but he was smart to turn that down.
