Same reason we hated Tim Hardaway Sr., Reggie Miller, Michael Jordan, Alonzo Mourning, Scottie Pippen, etc. in the 90s. They were the main opposition blocking us from our goal.

Yeah but that was after we were established contenders and developed a history against those guys. Lotta built in hate for Young before he even did anything to merit and well before it really meant something to us! Just interesting to me...he is a player that establishes a lot of strong reactions.

I think it's a combination of his size and appearance that makes fans believe he can be intimidated. Plus his style of play and the way he draws so many bogus fouls doesn't help. I don't think Knick fans need much to create a villain.

It’s ok to have a villain and certainly Young egged fans on— just like Reggie Miller would do. That’s all cool by me— it’s entertainment. He’s interacting with the fans. But the f u is adolescent- shows horrible on our home town.
Yeah it was a bit much. Pro Knicks chants should be the priority. Trae hasn’t really done anything slimey so there wasn’t any need.
I agree with Rose - when did basketball become so damned soft? Did any of you have problems with the ‘Cheryl' chants back in the day, or ‘hey ref - you suck' or ‘Boston sucks?' No, because you're all senile and having another bout of ‘get your fun off my lawn'
‘Trae is bald ing’ is an all time great chant

classy post, like the fu chants, classy

Actually what I think I have a problem is the witless nature of the F bomb chant. I remember at one of my first Mets games a guy screamed at the ump "one more eye and you'll be a cyclops!" I thought that was fun and funny. Screamin "F you!" "You suck!"...eh. See it as soft if you like -- we're allowed to disagree here. I see it as raise your game, callow youth.
And yeah everyone get the f@#k off my lawn..

See I find this reasonable. I always loved the Cheryl chant because Reggie was never the best player in his family. I loved the DC lawyer who got seats behind Phil Jackson and would read Phil’s book to the bench, because Phil bitched about his players

Yep, we're on the same page there.
yeah its a bit cringey because of the coward/bully mob aspect of it but as long as no one physically hurts him all i truly care about is the knicks kicking his ass and defeating him on the court (tho i understand why the bald cats are catching feelings about all this . . .

I used to sit in the Yankees bleachers and it would get crazy but there was always an attempt to be entertaining. They would serenade the other team's right fielder without mercy. I remember Brett Butler who was then with Cleveland gave just a dirty look or something -- big mistake. Reggie Miller knew how to handle it -- and yeah "Cheryl" was funny. The guy reading Phil's book is hilarious.

i had good seats at a yankees game one time and a leatherlungs near me yelled at albert belle when he was up - “hey albert can i have one of those hot dogs off the back of your neck?” all you could see was the back of belle’s neck and shoulders going up and down in laughter. it was a great sports moment.

You just don’t see it on such a large scale, but there have always been scumbag fans. If anything the handout and organization of “Trae is Balding” chants was the biggest negative.
Not understanding why people are so sensitive to the balding chant? I thought it was pretty harmless and funny. The profanity chants have got to go.
Its lame. really. Its how he wore his hair in college and i don’t see it. Its funny for Lebron becuase he tries to cover it up. I thought Trae had every right to taunt the crowd in game one as he kicked our asses. He took it like a man yesterday which is telling.
I’m cool it’s an excited fan based and thats the history of the garden. But keep it to basketball or related to what happens on the floor.
Is it Funny? I thought the profanity was not becoming of the “Smartest fans”.....”The MEcca”. That looked like suburban white guido wanna be’s with few adults blowing off sophomore rants and it looked bad. PHilly looks bad with there rudeness. The “Villain” thing is like WWE. Thats lame as hell too.
Reggie Miller got his rep mixing it up with Spike and then did the choke sign. Fact is, he kicked our ass and it was about spike.
I doubt Sting will want to be part of this Hot Mess again. They were spitting on Trae Young were he was sitting. That is crossing the line.
What is the line? Would you act that way if you met him one on one?

I hate Young beause he is a flopping bitch. For f's sake we lost game 1 because he flopped when Barrett grazed him and you guys are defending him. The guy is the embodiment of everything I dislike about the NBA

Exactly brother. Say it with your chest. When did this forum get so soft?
This is Trae Young father and he seems to be OK with the chants. The spitting and throwing stuff is definitely off limits.
I love that Knicks fans are passionate but cut this s out

If spitting on a player is considered macho I’d rather be a snowflake
Taunting Reggie about Cheryl was awesome because he killed us time and time again and she was in her day the women’s GOAT. IF no knee injury she was destined to be the one. Thats basketball related.
Seems fans coming out of covid in other cities forgot how to act too. This I not just NY.
Trae flops all the time? I don’t know the stat.
I am dissaponted in Macri as he goes off on him being not so handsome. If he aims to be respected let it be n other content and wit, not a mans looks.
Trae plays to get fouls? So dos IQ. The foul in game one with Barrett? There was contact. Thats on the ref to call it or not. Its his job to get to the line. I did not like the call but replay showed it as such.
This is a mature group on the UK. Soft? Really? LEts just say some taunts are brilliant and some are lame. Revert to vulgarity is lame. Remember the women giving the finger to Noah when he was with bulls in Miami? IT was a WTF moment she likley regrets.
MSG was always respected for having knowledgeable fans. I hate sitting with homer’s who whine about fouls because it goes against.
I like to sit with people who will remark and respect when the other team does something good. Give credit, sometimes you flat out get beat by a superior team.
Maybe Society is getting soft. Trumpians can’t handle he lost the last election and stay in denial.
Not facing reality is soft as hell. Blame the refs, blame the league,, blame Stern...... Thats soft.
Smart fans are cool. Exuberant fans are cool. Mobs are not.
