Plain and simple - the Knicks have done nothing to stop the Hawks best player. Trae Young is playing as well as he can play.
Meanwhile the Hawks have gameplanned to stop Julius Randle and not only have they completely taken him out of the game for 3 games - they have made him a net negative.
So one team is playing to their strengths and the other team is completely off their game.
We have been beat by the same stuff for 3 games.
That's a great point. Neither team has good offensive sets but the Hawks are benefitting from Trae either shooting himself or alley hooping it. Hard to stop even when it's not Steve Nash and Stat but rather Trae and Capella
Penetrating and kicking it out to 3 point shooters is a much less effective strategy even by % wise
Thibs has taken play-in talent and made it into a homecourt playoff team. He hasn't been outcoached as much as he is just outgunned. What can he do to stop Trae?
I’m not sure Atlanta is not just more talented overall.
They have incredible length at the rim. Size all over other positions good skill with a great pg.

They aren't more talented because we got a win and nearly got 2 with our two most talented players completely taken out of the game. IMO if we are playing our game they can't beat us. But they have gameplanned to take our guys out and we haven't adjusted. Conversely we haven't done a lot to make them change their game. To me that's on the coach.
Look maybe it's just an epic choke from Randle and RJ, but to me their defense is confusing Randle and we haven't been giving him enough outs.

Our d this series is faultering. Courtesy of Trae Young. Our O is non-existent if Randle cannot do his thing for whatever reason. RJ is learning on the job. Quicks and Obi are actually doing not bad. We have zero offensive plays and that's all the difference. It's hard to win games when one has to play hero ball every possession
Atlanta definitely has more firepower. But it’s clear that our lack of offensive imagination is hurting us. Even when Young leaves the game the Hawks still look well run.
When ATL's best player is raising his game and the Knicks' 2 best players are sliding back, there isn't alot coaching can do about it. Randle is missing shots he made during the season. He isn't passing well and honestly I don't see the passion he had during the season for whatever reason. Doesn't help that their shooting overall as a team (minus Rose) has gone to shit.
That isn't coaching. Young's game is tailor made for this NBA. Give him any space he shoots, crowd him he is fast enough to go around you.
Make no mistake. This is a player performance issue.

This is how I see it too. I would like to see Thibs use Randle more at the 5 to try and get Capela away from the paint. I know it won't happen but we gotta try to do something cause the sh*t they doing out there right now is ugly.
I partly agree, Thibs is not the difference maker I expected.
Now- I will say this about Trae Young- he's great! And we got Kevin Knox in that draft, and Dallas and Atlanta both ended with franchise changing talents, while we got Kevin Knox.
Thibs needs to find a way to get Randle and RJ some easy baskets early in the game. So much is reliant on the Knicks perimeter shooters nailing shots.

Trae Young is a great player, but his size is going to be a major deficiency. We are simply not exploiting it by having a bigger guard manhandle him in the post. The Sixers will show us how it is done.
Sadly, this is true.
We are into Game 4 and you can count the adjustments Thibs has done with one hand. But the situation with Randle, which should’ve been adjusted by Game 2, that is where he is leaving a lot to be desired.
The Hawks have risen for the challenge and NY, I honestly don’t know what they are doing.
We don’t post Randle up, and put him in the triple threat position which is what thrives in the playoffs.
We have Barrett playing as spot up shoooter and him not slashing at all, And we don’t post Barrett up either.

What does Thibs talk about in a timeout? certainly he is not designing a play or switching up the players. He is a good defensive coach but he has no clue on offense. He is so stubborn, he runs the same rotation game in game out with no variation. Of course he is being out coached. Nate has shut down Randle and the Knicks have not adjusted through 3 games. Any why was Rose in the game at the end taking a shot to the mouth, because Thibs is rigid and can't change.
His two best players were 4 for 24. Coaching? We talking coaching?

How do we adjust to not having a 6'11 PG on the roster?

I knew the game was over 9 min left in the third. Should have just sat rose down and keep guys fresh. Early Sunday start.
But then Again being punched in the mouth and still out there getting back up by playing gives you that fire for the next game for payback

When your best player is a PG...and 2nd best player is a center, it's very hard to win against that. With us, our best players are not at PG or center, so that minimizes our adjustments. PGs control the game....Centers control the paint. This team needs to find a star or up and coming star PG. And a star or up and coming star center. Right now we have backups in those positions and Randle at PF as our only all star. That's a bad recipe for any serious playoff runs.
There's only so much adjustments thibs can make.

This is why the hawks scared me before the series started. I wrote on an earlier post about Jeff van gundy comment that they were better. Jfk keeps it real. He was being honest. I knew tray young’s talent would crush our defensive game.
But we actually had all star performance by rose so far. So yes basically just Randle and RJ not performing. Rose is matching tray youngs impact on the game.
It’s Randle and RJ... it’s not coaching. Make plays guys. Get buckets!
Disclaimer: the hawks are not better if RJ and Randle performs!!
Not one game has our key performers put a stamp on their arrival in the playoffs!
