Randle is missing shots he made during the season. He isn't passing well and honestly I don't see the passion he had during the season for whatever reason. Doesn't help that their shooting overall as a team (minus Rose) has gone to shit. That isn't coaching. Young's game is tailor made for this NBA. Give him any space he shoots, crowd him he is fast enough to go around you.
Make no mistake. This is a player performance issue.
When your best player is a PG...and 2nd best player is a center, it's very hard to win against that. With us, our best players are not at PG or center, so that minimizes our adjustments. PGs control the game....Centers control the paint. This team needs to find a star or up and coming star PG. And a star or up and coming star center. Right now we have backups in those positions and Randle at PF as our only all star. That's a bad recipe for any serious playoff runs.
There's only so much adjustments thibs can make.
This is why the hawks scared me before the series started. I wrote on an earlier post about Jeff van gundy comment that they were better. Jfk keeps it real. He was being honest. I knew tray young’s talent would crush our defensive game.
But we actually had all star performance by rose so far. So yes basically just Randle and RJ not performing. Rose is matching tray youngs impact on the game.
It’s Randle and RJ... it’s not coaching. Make plays guys. Get buckets!
Disclaimer: the hawks are not better if RJ and Randle performs!!
Not one game has our key performers put a stamp on their arrival in the playoffs!
I’m looking for min 23 points from both both players.

I think they need more practice.
Sambakick wrote:Thibs has taken play-in talent and made it into a homecourt playoff team. He hasn't been outcoached as much as he is just outgunned. What can he do to stop Trae?
This. Thibs has no answer for Trae Young because the Knicks have no answer for Trae Young. Meanwhile, Randle is failing to adapt to the defensive schemes the Hawks have on him. Series is only 2-1 so let’s not make it a death knell. Teams are pretty well matched. Ntlikina seems to be the best “answer” to Trae, but even then the offense suffers without Rose right now.
Knicks need to play through this and dig deeper. This isn’t a Thibs issue, it’s a tough series and the Knicks have to play it through. They are bodying up Capella and forcing Trae to beat them. I could t think of a better plan.
I said it earlier in the “Concerned” thread, the Knicks don’t have an answer for Trae Young. This year.
Rose starting or coming off the bench will not equate to us winning or losing. If this is the case I think we should start the game with Frank/Payton. I’m talking about 2-3 minutes to see if they can keep tray in front of them.
winning and losing will come down to Randle and rj.
Rose Needs to spark that bench with iq Toppin and burks. This is how we rolled all season!!
Our bench can match their bench!
It’s about RJ and Randle coming through period
If Payton or Frank start judge them by their defensive play on tray young and not their offensive output. They will not be the reason we win or lose.
Most likely it will be the same rotation as the last game because Thibs will sink or swim with rose. That’s his guy.
But imo start or comes off the bench he will not determine outcome. He will keep us in the game or keep the score manageable but it’s really up to Randle and RJ

All of this.
I understood the thinking behind starting Rose but all that did was mess up the second unit coming in. If a bit more fire power, and another ball handler, was needed with the starters, I would have started Burks in place of Bullocks.

True!! If anything burks needs to move to the starting 5 if we have firepower issues.
Crazy thinking outside the box now. Just thinking out loud
RJ to the bench for burks. Or burks for bullock. Move burks to starting 5. Quick sub if he comes out shooting blanks. ( RJ )
We will know within the first 5 min if Randle and RJ are balling tommorow. If burks or bullock is on we roll through them. But of course not Randle will need to force his shots up because he is the “man”
this isnt a coaching issue... its a players issue. RJ/Randle simply need to play better. How are we laying that on Thibs?
Julius and RJ and shooting 24% and 34%... we look at this and think Thibs needs to fix it? Cmon now... obviously we need some Cameron Payne. After just put a body on Capella at all times try guarding Young and we will be just fine

If RJ and Randle played to their season averages we would run them out of the building
Thibs major error was giving way too much playing time to Payton first 2 games
Last night wasn’t on Thibs. Nobody could shoot
What happens to your bench when you put your 6th man in the starting line up..the bench gets weak that was one of our major strengths.
So Thibs thinks taking payton out of the rotation because we were winning despite his zero production..well that back fired BIG time.
IQ and Burk suffered with out rose as the primary ball handler..

We were picking 8th. If you’re going to cry about us drafting knox over Mikal Bridges that’s fine but we didn’t have the position to draft Luka or Trae Young

Trae Young is a great player, but his size is going to be a major deficiency. We are simply not exploiting it by having a bigger guard manhandle him in the post. The Sixers will show us how it is done.
How do we adjust to not having a 6'11 PG on the roster?
No one on the Knicks shot well last night other than Rose and most of his “shots” were layups and driving to the basket
It’s not Thibs’ fault if the entire roster collectively goes cold

Randle hasn't played well in large part because the Hawks had a plan to stop Randle and they are executing it. It's working. We haven't adjusted to it.
Trae Young is playing well - we may have had a plan to stop Trae, but it isn't working.
Thibs is a great coach and I believe in him, but for these 3 games Atlanta has had a better plan. They have taken away our 2 best players and we have largely done nothing to counter what their strengths are.
Need to make Trae work. Not just in defense but we need to make it difficult for him on offense as well. Let Frank pester him as soon as he gets out of the locker room. I don't care if Frank scores. I just want him to pester Trae. On offense I just want frank to hit his 3s.
Start with Rose, Frank, RJ, Randle, Noel.
I think Frank needs to get more time if the Knicks are to get past the Hawks. I hate to say it but Hawks backcourt is killing the Knicks. Tibs has done nothing to stop that. He needs to insert Frank and tell him to basically play defense On Trae and take the open shots.

This. We have a premier on ball defender. We are going up against a premier perimeter player. Makes too much sense

I don't think you pull something like this in the playoffs. Frank needed more time to be molded into that role during the season. You mind as well throw Luca in if you're gonna throw crap on the wall and see what sticks.
ATL is flat out just better than us. Been they have more talented roster.
RJ and Randle either choking or being Neutralized.

They are more talented overall.
If we even it up tomorrow the series is up for grabs.
