Knicks · Thibs has been getting out coached in this series. (page 3)

If we even it up tomorrow the series is up for grabs.
Nalod @ 5/29/2021 7:48 PM
Capella defense is not a stat stuffer.
Trae Young might be balding, but he is kicking our ass.
ATL defense has been very effective.

RJ and Randle either choking or being Neutralized.

A little bit of both. He's panicking and not allowing the game to come to him. I wouldn't care as much if his scoring is down if he was taking smart shots, recognizing reads better and making good reads. Teams make adjustments all the time. Julius was able to slow down and make the solid pass. Not necessarily the assist, but the pass that led to the assist. Now he looks clueless, spastic and coked out. Next game he should focus on getting RJ and Reggie off first.

MooK @ 5/29/2021 10:43 PM
I really think going small gives us our best chance to win. Tired of watching Capela camp in the paint and shade his help toward Randle because he doesn't respect Gibson and Noel. Give Obi some burn with Randle to at least try to open up the paint or give us that lob threat we lost when Mitch went down...
JesseDark @ 5/30/2021 2:01 AM
The Knicks are at a talent deficit against the Hawks. We are also missing Mitchell Robinson. His alley oops and style of play would negate all that Capella is doing for them. Add to that Julius Randle playing his worse all season and ice cold shooting from everyone else except Rose and thats why we are losing. The coach can’t put the ball in the basket for you.
We really need another all star caliber player at point and more dead eye shooters.

Ehm, yes? The Hawks are on a mission to stop Randle. Playoffs are about adjustments and the Knicks haven’t adjusted to give Randle better shots nor freeing others to take the slack. So yeah, part of it is coaching.

No hate on Thibs, he is as much the reason we are here as Randle is, but it’s on to Game 4 and we have yet to adjust to the Hawks defensive plan.

Vmart @ 5/30/2021 10:11 AM
Tibs is an old school coach. And if we recall no matter what the level of talent the Knicks had under JVG or Riley the games were always a struggle for the Knicks in the past. It’s the case with Tibs. I look at Miami and they faced the same struggles inability to score. Playoff basketball get turned up a notch or two and the Knicks simply are not up to the task offensively. Their defense has to be ratcheted up to match their ineptness on offense. Let’s face it Randle and RJ had good seasons but they aren’t ready for playoff basketball. Tibs needs to put them in good position to score the ball. Randle is putting up shots that he didn’t even consider in the regular season he has become a ball stopper and pulling a Melo right before our eyes. Once Randle gets others more involved it will become easier for him to score. Also the major adjustment needed is Frank needs to be implemented to the line up just to try and contain Trae. That should be his only job make it harder for Trae. And take the open shots.

No hate on Randle, but he's forcing shots and thinking too much. His shots are not in rhythm

We have to play faster, ball pressure on the defensive end

Agree completely. Add to the fact that, like Capella, those floaters/lobs from Trae wouldn't be as high % w/ Mitch patrolling the paint.

I disagree 100%, Taj and Noel have done a good job patrolling the paint. Hawks are shooting lights out from deep,

Ridiculous shooting % in game 3 for sure. You don't think the Hawks getting buckets inside or having the ease of penetrating and kicking out has nothing to do with those %s?

Capella diverts plays inside and many on the outside too. Pretty sure most of our runs have been when he's on the bench. To me, he's been more disruptive than Trae.

Taj has played very well this series, but he's not a Mitch/Capella type defender. Noel is dinged up and, even w/ his great season, I still Mitch is far superior on the D end.

This series convinced me we need to pay Mitch

This. We have a premier on ball defender. We are going up against a premier perimeter player. Makes too much sense

Thibs never playing Frank ever unless it’s the last possession of a half is obtuse

He’s basically admitting Frank is his only Guard that can competently defend Trae. Why not play him more? I have no idea

There’s old school and then there’s clearly just blackballing a guy out of spite

I don’t know what Frank did to anger this regime. Supposedly he fired CAA representation 2 years ago. Maybe there’s interpersonal stuff between him and the coaching staff. How you never use your best perimeter defender against Trae Young the entire series is laughable

They’ve been fine but they haven’t been the shot blocking force Mitch is.

If we let Mitch walk or trade him it will be us repeating the Marcus Camby f up of 2001

So Bullock is exhausted chasing around Trae Young all game and takes away our only viable three point threat because of it. Rose is breaking down because of over use. I still can’t comprehend why he doesn’t give Frank the minutes to start the game to keep the bench fresh and our big advantage. If Julius and RJ can’t carry the load we are fucked anyway, so why not give the guys a breather.

We don’t have a point guard on the roster that’s looking for people, that’s really the biggest weakness. Obi has been wide open for dunks all seasons and someone is dribbling and not looking for others.

Thibs needs to change up some looks out there. Randle at the 5, get in the post more and have Obi exploding towards the cup.

All valid points. Putting Frank in the starting lineup puts everyone back to what got us here. Our bench becomes a force to be reckoned with. Bullock gets fresh legs to make those 3s. We don't have a PG to take advantage of Trae's defense but we do have one that should make him work just a little harder on O so that his late game heroics might be easier to control.

Our shot blocking has been taken away. Noone on the Hawks drives for layups. Trae is perfectly fine taking the floater to make Noel useless. Randle has been trying to feed Noel who either fumbles the ball or has no way to take advantage of his deep position when he does catch it. Randle to Obi should be quite potent.

Thibs usually gets into trouble in the playoffs.
But Thibs is the #1 reason the Knicks are even in the playoffs.

He has been a fantastic hire for what the Knicks could have hoped for. He has taken a group of no ones and made them an East playoff team that has respect. Now free agents will respect the Knicks with who is running the front office and who is running the team as coach.

Thibs needs a go to guard or wing. It is not Randle. Someone like Jimmy Butler in his prime.

Overall this season has been a success for NYK, even if they fail to advance. The series is not over though. I see the Knicks winning game 5, and sending to back to Atlanta.

xblvdels3 @ 5/31/2021 10:07 AM
If we get to game 6 with a chance to win it I’m satisfied with the year from a team building perspective and culture building

On to the next step completing the rebuild. Talent aquistion phase

Welpee @ 5/31/2021 10:13 AM
By definition, didn't every losing coach get "out-coached?" Can't think of too many instances when a losing coach "out-coached" the winning coach.
EwingsGlass @ 5/31/2021 10:17 AM
Only sign that we were out coached that I saw was the congratulations to Randle on that cheap shot. Just a bad play and a bad look. The fact that the young team was happy with that shows me they need more coaching. Randle needs to do better. I don’t even care if he gives a hard foul on a basketball play to make a statement. The statement he made was that he is an amateur and not in control of his emotions.
