Knicks · Knicks are one of Norman Powell's limited options in FA. (page 1)
Knicks, Miami, Thunder, Spurs, Dallas, Toronto, Hornets, Detroit.
Spurs already have a lot invested at the G spot with White, Walker, Vassell, Johnson
Dallas will most likely look to retain THjr
Toronto traded him away
Hornets have Rozier in place at this spot
Heat are a wild card, they have Hero in place, but can still look to throw some money at Powell, and keep Hero as a 6th man. Wouldn't put it past them, but they may look to go with small depth pieces preserving for the big fish.
Portland can retain him and probably look for a S&T for a draft pick. Which we can offer.
Thunder and Detroit are also the main comp from a pure fa signing route. Both of them will probably depend on where they are slotted to draft and who could be available for them at those slots. Casey coached Powel in the past so there are ties there with that if it breaks that way.
For the Knicks and Powell though. Seems like a strong match for what each are looking for. Powell will get paid, net 35mins a night fighting for 2nd option with RJ, NY will boost his profile. Knicks will get a G in his prime that can give the offense a much much needed boost.

Yes he would be a great option. Add him and a strong PG upgrade and this team is significantly better without sacrificing any assets.

He had Lillard, CJ and Lowry by his side this yr and both teams fell flat, IMO he's a just little better that Burks, but he's still to small to guard guys 6 6" and up.

Norm is a really good player who would help. Depends on the cost, but if its reasonable he's very good and would immediately improve us at. I like him a lot.
If we are looking at Portland players, outside of Dame, Covington is a player I would go after.

He was averaging 23pts per game in Tor before moved and 16-20 the 2 yrs prior. Burks has never averaged that in his career. He has shot around 47+% fg & 40% from 3 the last 3 yrs on good amount of volume. Gets to the line 4+ times a game.
In Portland he mostly played out of position and still was able to produce at an efficient rate. For the Knicks he's sliding right back in to SG for 30+ mins.
Sorry was looking at his per 36 he put up 19.6 for Tor

He will cost twice as much as Burks. Powell doesn't provide the size we need at SF

Anyone looking at him besides 1248 as an alpha? Rainman cherry picking his snits.
Powell has a ring. But he was not the alpha either?
Powell is a role player. Not prime time SG. He can guard bigger guards with is wing span.
Free agents are not free for a reason. There is a value and if you exceed it you live with it.

I think Barrett becomes the SF in this scenario.

Keep in mind he has a 6’11 wing span. He’s probably “bigger” than most 6’7 forwards.

He would(RJ). Powell can create his own shot. Has been playing in the playoffs since 2016. For his apparent lack of size he shoots high %

He may cost 20 million a year for a modest upgrade over Burks / Bullock. Not a bad player but I'm not sure he makes us that much better for the increase in cost
Barrett loses a lot of his defensive value at SF. He goes from being bigger and stronger than the majority of SG's to being at best middle of the road.

Again the market isn’t strong for Powell given his options. Knicks have 60+mil in cap and don’t have any long term contract commitments. There is also no rush to extend Randle or Mitch until sometime next season if that’s what they decide. Cap flexibility isn’t a problem here. He does not negate Knicks from pursuing elite level star talent if those options presented themselves.
At the same ages neither Bullock or Burks have ever produced like Powell nor have his playoff experience. Which is why they were journeymen signing cheap deals when Knicks got them. And he will be high valued FA target.
He scores putting up 48-40-88 type % at 18-19ppg. This is efficient production that someone like Thibs can really use.
RJ doesn’t have strong handle and isn’t a super athlete. He also will only get bigger as he gets older given his frame at now 20yrs old going into 21. Which is why his developed 3pt shot has been so crucial. The value of adding an efficient scoring SG to pair with hold higher value that him playing with lesser talent in order to keep him at SG. Where as Young exposed. A team can just put the smaller player on Bullock and have the bigger wing defend RJ anyway.
franco12 wrote:If we can make one big signing/move in the off season - has to be PG. Looks like a nice player, happy to pay him $10M per. But he is 28, so the production will diminish.
But we also need a wing to go with RJ

Wingspan is actually a really underrated metric in today’s nba.

Knicks could sign Powell and CP3 (who wants to play at MSG) and keep all their assets in the draft. Even if they dont bring back Rose/Taj (I think they do somehow) they Knicks would look like this next year: (bench are players currently under contract)
PG CPaul
SG RJ
SF Norm
PF Jules
C Mitch
Bench: IQ/Obi/Luka/Knox/Pele + FRP, FRP, SRP (leaves two roster spots open for Taj/Rose)
Thats pretty phuckin good squad and its really young with the exception of CP3 who you are paying crazy money to be the floor general veteran coach on the floor and he's prolly the only guy in the league you do that for except Lebron
